Still a bit early for wasps yet there will be plenty come the end of August bit as you say last couple of years there doesn't seem to be quite as many.. On a plus note there's plenty of bumblebees this year round me.

I wonder if the huge numbers of pest controllers are in part responsible for fewer wasps. We didn't have many last year, apparently due to the previous winter not being cold enough: the queens didn't hibernate properly and as a result either died or weren't strong enough to build nests. Also, now that I'm very allergic to wasp stings, I make sure to kill any queens I see in spring, and have a friend pest controller who sprays every likely nest site around our house and garden at the first sign of them. If lots of other people are doing the same thing then their numbers will drop, in towns and villages at any rate.

Although wasps are an important part of the Eco system I f***ing hate em. Vile horrible vitriolic drunken asbo b*****ds......f**k with a bee and I'll kick you into next week, swat a wasp and I'll invite you round for dinner and put £100 in you pocket as you leave.

Wasps are just wrong, plain and simple!

I haven't noticed many of them about the last few seasons. Not a bad thing. Maybe they have some sort of breeding cycle ams they'll be back with a vengeance at some point?

euro wasp lol, would that be a hornet then.............found hornets nest up the woods last summer could hear them long before i see them swarming around a hole in the trunk big crazy muthers as big as your finger, get the feck out there moment.

also remember watching a wasp on a leaf in a bush when a hornet jumped it,rotated around in its legs while taking the head off then flew off carrying the body, never seen anything like that before
