FUJI 17,623
Lurchers have been at the forefront of my life since I was a teen back in the late 70's..marriage,relationships,jobs ive lost them all due to putting the dogs to the fore..fines, motors confiscated, dogs seized, electronic tags, banned from counties, banned from keeping hunting dogs again all due to hunting with a lurcher..ive never made a dime breeding pups BUT them days are gone, if and when I do so which im contemplating this next summer I will not be so daft it will be 16 years since I last bred a litter so it's not like im a puppy peddlar lol..ive not pushed the boundaries and run my dogs to the hilt getting them to where they are to give pups away or sell for peanuts..why should I? It's not about greed its about me putting in thousands of man hours working them and training them to a decent standard and driving tens of thousands of miles working them..paying fines, dogs confiscated etc..why should others benefit from my own and my dogs hard graft over many seasons? .. After 35+ years im changing tune and I don't give a f**k what anyone thinks about me lol ..so basically dogs have ruined my f***ing life ... 11 Quote Link to post

He'd do nothing but good to the lurcher population. He's got enough of the right kind of collie to make an impact on any line. Quote Link to post
leinster lad 0
Hunting 35 yr, sold a few pups up and down the years, Only to pay for dog food, injections, etc but when you Breed your on pups, train and work them, and they give 100% back to you, no money would buy them, you don't have that many great dogs in your lifetime,if you are lucky to have one you won't sell him. beast 1,884
in nigh on 30 years i've never bred a litter or sold a dog. at one time i was catching enough to apy all my expnses (feed, fuel jabs etc) and also pay for a few extras each year (new locator or a new lamp etc) but never made anything like living money, and christ i was putting in some hours then, as well as working full time. but i just love being around dogs, training, working them, just sitting on the floor with them in the back yard. i love the sport, when my time comes i hope i have a heart attack while i'm watching a running dog up behind a hare , what a way to go 6 Quote Link to post

When I say running dogs have been my life I really do mean that, they have been a fulltime day/night occupation for me, ive never been a part-time/one for the pot hunter which I have no qualms with at all but for the best part of my life it's been a case of all or nothing with me..the damn things took over my life..it really would of been easier getting a steady 9-5 job instead of seasonal work or losing jobs because of my desire to hunt and never clapping an eye on a bloody lurcher but alas that is all in hindsight now..all I will say is go work your socks off buy yourself a better than average new car and feel free to gift it to me lol..there really ain't too much difference mate..only reason I was contemplating breeding a litter is we have three dogs here who are seven, six & six in the upcoming months but I guess I will see how things pan out?..plus ive my name on a pup from a future litter planned which has nothing to do with my own dogs ... it won't be free or even cheap lol..keep on keeping on folks..im off for a wander and to see whats lurking about in the woods with a mutt or two.. Adios Amigos :-) 3 Quote Link to post
Bosun11 537
I've never in 47 years been without a lurcher. I've only purpose bred one litter. I've never sold a dog for profit. My dogs and my hunting have cost me a few relationships over the years and landed me in serious hot water. Would i change anything.... Not on your fecking nelly.... I've loved every second of it and if i could, i'd simply do things better... Long may it continue...!!!!! Quote Link to post
desertbred 5,490
I just love being out freezing my balls of in the frost in mid December at 8 of a morning, breath freezing in my tash walking miles just willing a run to come. Hunted here and in the Desert its cold there also early morning LOL. Never sold a dog in my life never bred a litter here, have been asked loads of times but not my thing. The family breed back home only to improve our stock or replenish stock. I don't have many vices only my dogs and don't think I spend any where near the amount of money some lads spend on cigs , drink or even down the resturaunts so its a reasonably cheap way of life . The Ban is the fly in the ointment but it wont stop lads who have hunting in the blood , feel sorry for young lads getting into the game especially if no job the price of dogs vets bills car insurance etc its a game stopper, but f**k the ban and keep on running. 8 Quote Link to post
dytkos 17,899
Have always been able to make a few quid selling stuff I've caught. But thats it - a FEW quid The dogs have cost me literally thousands and thousands over the years, buying them, feeding them, vets, kennels and runs etc, lamping equipment, etc etc, even vehicles especially bought to take the dogs and other stuff that costs money as well. When you add the cost of sleepless nights, missed work, relationship problems, fines, convictions etc it makes you wonder why we do it. Does it feck it's the life we love Long may it continue for us all Cheers, D. 4 Quote Link to post
FERRETBOY 680
Getting disciplinary at work, guess why? Running late because I was out with the dogs. My aim is to go camper-vaning with the dogs and get seasonal work. that will be my dream and if I can make ends meet I will be the happiest guy on earth. 1 Quote Link to post
