Why the heat lamp

only use the heat lamp if they been lamping, as above it helps stop the stiffness plus i towel them down massage start+ finish of the night But thats it regards the heat lamp, my 2 have good thick coats so handle the cold quite good, and they got shredded wax paper they make nice nest in it, if bring them in for a hour there panting and seem restless  . but when they get old 11 -14 year old prob live the heat lamp on for them .!

:hmm:

raised bedboard

That's more like it, shredded paper, gets dragged everywhere but easier to clean out and replace

true, but if you use the wax shredded paper it (bindes) better and hold it all better, still get bit in the garden, more so when dogs are trying to hide there bones in it lol, but 100% better than norm shredded paper.

Bed only needs to be a foot off the floor to avoid drafts and should be removable for cleaning and bedding injured dogs on the floor as a temporary measure. I use heat lamps all winter for dogs without good jackets like Greyhounds. Treat em like heroes even when theyre shit. Thats what I say.

mine are removable planks with the first one with the end board on, screwed down, makes cleaning and disinfecting simple, bedboards really need to be higher than the entrance hole if that makes sense, i also have hessian sacking over the entrance to cut down drafts, damp and drafts are far worse than the cold,
