PeakOil 352
Must have been a f*****g slow news day No punching / kicking takes place, it is wrestling / grappling based for kids. Would kids taking part in judo, jiu jitsu or karate competitions be front page news? Lazy reporting by ill informed idiots out to peddle a sensationalist headline and sell papers to gullible idiots. Some of the Angry of Tunbridge Wells type comments attached to the newspaper coverage of this non story make me wonder if the UK is the right country to bring kids up in. Karate and judo have a good image, yet doing pretty much the same thing in a cage sees a load of idiots getting their knickers in a twist.
lurcher330 2,301
they are complaining about it been done in a cage which is a lot safer than a 4 ft ring with only ropes to protect them from falling out

jarv5116 57
What a load of shite! This country is turning gay. Next you will have be 16 before your can take part in any contact sport. People been boxing for centuries, kids even get hurt more playing rugby than wrestling! 6pack 60
And here comes the female perspective to upset the apple cart I don't have a prob with young kids doing contact sports - my own 9 year old does wrestling and Judo in school. What I don't like is the setting. Why the need for the cage? The scantily clad female with her round placards? The jeering from spectators seems more than what you would expect at a child competition. The excuse it keeps them off the street is ridiculous. If the same bout took place in a more child friendly, less alcohol. Just more for the child than the fun of the adults.
gnasher16 31,499
Interesting subject this......im certainly no dogooder and without a doubt the media have certainly sensationalised and dramatised it to a high degree calling it barbaric and what not .....but i do think the whole thing is wrong for so many reasons...and i put most of the blame at the feet of those who organise and represent the sport......i like the sport i think its a good test and a good concept...but they have marketed it in such a bad way....i mean lets not forget this is the sport they have been selling to everybody as " the ultimate fighting challenge "....." no holds barred fighting "....." no rules fighting ".........what is it ..." 2 men enter the cage and only 1 man leaves " and loads more bullshit hype......you cant market something as this deadly hardcore fight....but then try to play both sides of the coin by saying its a nice safe sport for 8 year old children to do !!..... Im all for kids being encouraged to exercise and be taught discipline and dedication in their chosen sport thats great......but they shouldnt be competing at that age......in the sport of boxing kids can start at 8 BUT they will not be competing....they will learn the very basics of fitness, they,ll learn how to correctly deliver punches, correct footwork, hit a bag, jump rope etc etc.....but they will not be allowed to compete until aged 11...................ok the kids in this " cage fighting " video are only grappling.....but if they are not trying to arm bar,leg lock, choke etc then what is the purpose of it ? just to roll around on the floor .....and in a working mens club with beer being supped, very odd if you ask me.....id be a little dubious of men who pay to watch 8 year old boys roll around on the floor anyway Not to mention the danger of soft little kids bones getting pulled about, you wouldnt put a 10 week old pup in that position even if he was the best bred fighting dog alive....if you want to raise something as a thoroughbred athlete you got to treat them like a thoroughbred athlete human or animal.....and that dont involve putting the body or mind under great stress before its developed. Nah.....its not right in my opinion.

catchwrestler 31
Was obviously just a submission wrestling bout and has been blown way out of proportion by the media ! Only thing I didnt like was the attempted leg locks which are far too dangerous at that age !!!
