  1. They're great dogs, hard little b*****ds that work cattle really well and guard just as good. Very popular over here as a pig dog both in pure form and as a cross. Very intelligent and loyal, I love em but I'm biased because my father used to bred stumpies
  2. Great video but interesting choice in music haha
  3. I had a few pure bred salukis years ago and my biggest regret is not being patient enough with them and expecting the world. Saluki bred dogs require patience and a soft hand and it was a steep learning curve. I ran em hard when young and lets just say there was a good reason none of em made it over 6 yr old. When I think back on it I feel sick about what a cruel uneducated b*****d I was to those dogs. These dogs need time and a shitload of it
  4. Who would of thought this be his last pic! RIP Reginald, you were what I expected and more,f****n gutted, heartbroken, gonna miss you palimage.jpg atb AT Sorry to hear mate, that's no good. What happened to him if you don't mind me asking?
  5. x2, also dog aggression and human aggression tendencies are a pretty good way to get a one way ticket on the lead express. I'll work with the dog aggression but if it's getting snappy with people it's gone, had too many incidents happen to me and mates to put up with that crap. I also won't breed from a dog that gets snappy with other dogs. I expect the dog to start showing a bit of promise before it's 12 months, and be working at an alright level by 18 months, if it's got a lot of wolfhound or deerhound add 6 months to those numbers. If it's still not performing by then, it's gone. I got heap
  6. I think Oz is a perfect example of how clever and adaptable the fox really is. Different climate, wildlife, terrain and they still thrive. Yeah I reckon if a fox run up on your big brute named Buck he wouldn't live to regret the decision either haha yeh it would be prob its last run deff, a bloody cat locked on to his head when he 12 month old he never seen one that close before ,it hurt him and bloody hell he only bit once and that was the end of that feral. yeh foxes are survivors no dout about it, and in your country with what you got out there crocs, snakes, dingos, they do well t

  8. Wicked looking dog mate, she looks like she can run. Should send her over to me so I can thin out all the hares here

  10. I do a mix of gun work with all my dogs, I like having them with me regardless of the type of hunting so I get a good handle on em and take em along
  11. I agree with the time frame. A dog can't show you what it's got in a month. Usually takes em at least that long just to settle in and get used to you
  12. bloody hell mate, was there no way you could save him,? did the croc just take him under and down deep. but suppose its the country you live in and crocs/snakes are part of it ,you have to just learn to live with the risks then , still a heart breaker to see more so as you say if a very good dog. Yeah I saw the croc come up and grab him and it just took him straight under. I went to the car and got my Dad's gun and waited for that croc for around 4 hrs but I never saw it. Where I lived at the time has no crocs, it was just the place we were for those few months. I saw the pig go in and
  13. The first line of bull arabs was greyhound x GSP x bull terrier but nowadays each line has a got a little bit different make up. Mastiff, foxhound and some other breeds have all been added to the point that it's almost impossible to say. In regards to the saluki, i haven't heard that one before but who knows. If there is saluki blood in them it's extremely dilute now, to the point it wouldn't make any difference.
  14. it's called The Hunting Life, not The Pet Life. This is a hunting forum about working dogs. If the dog doesn't work, get rid of it. I don't have the kennel space to fook around with a dog that doesn't do what I need. Some people that may rub the wrong way but I'd much rather someone be happy and give the dog a good life instead of me being disappointed with it all the time. Nice looking dog mate
  15. Awesome photos mate, great action shots

  17. Lot of good athletic boxers around and boxer is a fairly common cross in pig dogs. A lot of pures have fook all drive though
  18. I can't imagine it being useful on any legal quarry over there. Except for maybe foxes but even then I can't imagine it being better than a bull x grey or something like that. Just seems a pointless cross for anything other than making a bit of coin.
  19. Bullarab x bullmastiff, first hunting dog I ever owned at 14 years old. He was a big strong dog, good nose, hard on a pig with no back down in him and once he got a hold there was no pig going anywhere. Caught some very big pigs with him until the family moved up to Arnhem Land for a couple months and he chased a pig into a river and got taken by a croc right in front of me. Just about broke my heart, he was only 3. Have never seen a dog since that could be so physical and aggressive when hunting and then be an absolute teddy bear with other pets, stock, small children etc
  20. Know some fellas with pure greyhounds for foxes, the key with them as other people have stated is to get them as a pup and educate them like you would any other dog. The reason the pure greyhounds get a bad name is people get an ex track dog or failed sapling and don't realise the dogs have zero fieldcraft and don't know what barbed wire is, ditches, rocks, rabbit holes etc. The hardest part about getting an adult is trying to stop it from running at break neck speed while it's getting the hang of rough ground. I currently don't have the kennel space but in the future I'd love to get a pure gr
  21. Pretty sure that Dan fella had an airedale x staghound, it's in his coyote hunting thread. I know some fellas running airedale x greyhound/bull terrier on pigs, they go well so they tell me
  22. I was born too late and missed the days of hunting kangaroos with sighthounds. Dad used to tell me heaps of stories about jumping on a horse with his brothers and taking two or three big rough coated staghounds and getting a roo after school for dinner. They also used to hunt foxes with his colliexdeerhound and sell the skins during the school holidays for pocket money. My grandfather also made a living trapping and shooting for furs and once every few months he'd take his wagon loaded up with furs pulled by a horse 160km to sell them. It would take him 2 weeks to make the round trip
