I was shocked at the amount of turkeys I saw running around the hillsides on the south island when I was last over, glad to hear they are doing something with em no one could give me a straight answer when I asked about it. Also, for those who have never been, NZ is really hunter friendly. Even going across the ditch from Oz I was blown away with how open and pleasant about it everyone was. I was even ready a hunting mag on a plane from Dunedin to Christchurch and one of the air hostesses started asking me what I hunted, where, what sort of guns I had etc it was a great feeling

I use em when i work the dogs off the light, handy when they go over a hill or in a ditch and you lose sight of the chase you can pick em up again way quicker. My dogs all come back when I turn the light off so they aren't really necessary though

is that alsation mate in youre pic i love allysFirst cross Alsatian whippet... nice is it a rescueYes from RSPCA. Was being used as a bait dog. I smell bullshite How dare you!!! The only rescued bait dogs I've seen were wearing 200 bucks of kit and had an extremely pushy, opinionated woman holding the leash. Doesn't fit the bill Haha I'm only winding him up. It's just a lurcher. I've had her from 6 weeks old. Haha I know, I was playing along. I don't trust a bloke who admits sniffing charlies, they fookin stink like hell

I would avoid advice from those people in the future. If a litter is worth anything to you, you do your best to make sure it goes as well as possible. That's common sense.
-
I would prefer to avoid it. Most of the time you could probably get away with for a few weeks but a dogs pregnancy term is only 60 days so the risk can be quite high. Some people might say it's all good but my mrs had a miscarriage from continuing to ride horses for a couple months into her pregnancy so I'd rather not make that mistake again

Have a mate with one he uses as a fox flushing dog in brush, also works very well on rabbits on the lamp. Good nose, not great pace but you get a pretty full on dog with a bit of brains that's pretty eager to work

9 people? As in arrested together? You got to be a few sandwiches short of a picnic to be out coursing in a group that large

'fur Mommies' - A Pain To Lurcher Owners?

This is a very good point, a 15 ft long chain gives a dog 706 sq foot of space to move. For the same area you would need to build a kennel that was 20 ft wide and 35 ft long. Good luck finding the coin the build a kennel that big for multiple dogs -
References are extremely helpful. Got a lot of land through that, if you can provide a farmer with a list of other property owners that can vouch for you a lot of the time it will change their mind without them even checking it out. At the moment I'm spoiled for land, being a farm consultant/ag scientist I spend 4 days a week on properties with clients and get most of my permission that way If you have a trade or skill that you can offer in return that really helps, if you can fix a fence well very few farmers will turn away a free fence job! But most of all as people have already said, be p

I stand corrected, your laws are different than ours "In UK law there is no specific right to privacy in public places. The European Convention on Human Rights gives a 'right to private and family life' In the UK, you do not have a right to privacy in a public place. "

You do if you reproduce it for anything. No one ever follows it up though coz it's a very expensive and drawn out process and you only ever win if they've made money off your image or made negative claims you can prove are false

'fur Mommies' - A Pain To Lurcher Owners?

They are the fooking bane of my existence. Yard is on a slope and the ground is not right for kennels so I have to chain one of my dogs so he doesn't jump the fence while I'm gone and I have them COME ONTO MY PROPERTY TO COMPLAIN and then after I explain the situation to them they still abuse me, tell my I'm cruel and report me to the local council. Luckily the council are so used to it they disregard all the complaints because they've visited my yard a few times and know it's all bullshite. I've even been accused of dog fighting with my kelpie/pit/wolfhound/bull bitch because she has scars fr -
It's illegal to take a photo of someone without their permission unless at a public event eg rally, carnival etc unless in evidence of a crime. Bloke posts it up anywhere or sends it to anyone other than the cops saying you did something you didn't you have grounds for defamation and slander and can sue the cnut

That's fooked, I can't get my head around having your dogs and car taken for a few bunnies! Whatever you do though, stay inside the law or you'll absolutely ruin any chance you've got. I'd be staying away from that spot in the future
-
Funnily enough I had a dachshund take a chunk out of the nose of my big wolfhound x, woman tried to do me for booting the shit out of the little cnut! Luckily I took photos of his nose and had a vet report to take to court and she ended up paying damages. I'm with Bonehead, i used to live in town with a lot of half wild dingo x's and always carried a nice big stick

Nice work mate, I was in the same boat with my bitch not taking and she's only just starting to get back into work now -
My Mrs as well, was doing roo shooting on a few cattle stations coz the numbers were getting out of control. She complained about every thing, gun is too loud, it's too cold, poor animals, this is so cruel, can we put some music on, I'm bored, they stink etc fook me after 6 hours I nearly shot her and chucked her on the back of the ute with the roos. She's gotten a lot better now, if i need a hand she'll come along and gets stuck in without whinging too much haha. She more than makes up for it in helping care for the dogs though, I haven't picked up a turd in 4 yrs

Saved this post and if I ever feel like whinging I'll read it to remind me to harden up, good on ya

House Lurchers, Work As Well As Any Kennel Cur,s
Red Center replied to swg dave's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
spot on, its not about the dogs abilty as a worker,by living in your house or outside, its what you think about your house,?having had dogs living in before, and now not living in i know what better, the house smells great, cleaner etc plus i think dogs like there own space, if they had hard night or day, or got nice bone etc,.mine live outside but i spend fair amount of time with them in the summer and winter. i know few old people who live on there own, and they got little pet type dogs, and they keep them in and get great pleasure from them, nothing wrong with that.but a little 9lb dog was bough -

I bring em inside over night but that's mainly to stop them barking at the wildlife all night long. And also because of thieving cnuts running a dog fighting ring in my town stealing peoples dogs from their yard. I was raised no dogs in the house full stop but I don't mind it provided they aren't all over you the whole time
