    Went into the gold souk (market) in Riyadh, SA in about 1982 and bought quite a substantial amount. Few years back my 2 daughters decided on a house each. Their deposits were well sorted and we still some stash. Like you, hindsight is unbelievable and I reckon if we had waited we probAbly would have bought the hoses outright. Kappa days. Jok.

    Seeing how most of the animals/birds we hunt and shoot are for eating, what the heck do you do with something that size.? I imagine they are quite rancid as well. Is it the pelt, the head or just the knowledge that you have outwitted such a magnificent creature. What a beast. Jok.

    Many years ago I was introduced to eel fishing on or at the North Bank , Boston. Lincs. We would go bleak fishing, for bait, and spend all the dark hours on the eels. Fantastic. I seem to remember 5lb eels which are quite a thing. Also, we jellied our eels and took them into the local pubs in Northampton for which we had the obligatory pint. In those days we would be bringing back well over 40/50 eels. Jok.

    FAO Paulus. I totally agree with your comments. For what it’s worth, I hope this could be a stepping stone to bringing this forum back to prominence. It has taken a bit of a kicking over the last 12 months os more but surely like minded folks can get over it all and basically get on with each other. Jok.

    DC. I must mention this as a 5 pounder seems rather tiddlerish. We were diving on an ex hospital ship down your way. We had been advised to look out for shiny deposits as there was every chance of mercury, which, although a bit dangerous to handle is also very valuable. My mate Fred gave me a bit of a dig and pointed to some portholes. In the gloom, as I shone my light on said items, it appeared that 3 of them were full of mercury.     Blooming eck. This has become a forum of aches and pains. I’ve just come away from Derby Royal where I had to have nerve tests in both hands and wrists prior to keyhole surgery on my right shoulder following a fall a year past March setting bloody crayfish traps. I was doing a pal a favour the other day fitting a door and window to his new garage and needed some superglue for the end caps. Local shop, £1.30 and a quick trundle back to site.
