  1. Carp fishing is over complicated if you follow the herd. Carp fashion is driven by two things; money for the tackle trade and blindly copying tactics and equipment used in successful captures even though the circumstances bear no resemblance to the fishing they encounter. It can be made as simple as you like and this is equally if not more so exciting. You have already expressed a desire not to go too heavy and bully the fish in so look back a few years before the arms race began and look at tactics and rods used in the 1960's and 70's. You can buy rod blanks from UK sources in the streng
  2. I'll be offline for a bit. I'm just off to fell a pine tree to make a bigger rod. I'm off after gudgeon next week, but you never know.................. ?
  3. You are talking bollox. You have no idea how that pike was lost and claiming that heavier line won't snap against a snag is bullshit. You advocate using 3lb tc rods for carp that only run to 15lb and justify it by 100lb catfish breaking 4lb hook lengths designed for small barbel. And then claim that I am agreeing with you. Total and utter bollox. Doesn't make sense but if you want to fish using gear that might, one day land your fish of a lifetime even though it is totally over gunned for what you normally catch then go ahead.
  4. You have no idea how that fish was lost. It could have been a dodgy knot or the line being cut on something sharp. No one is advocating 1lb tc for this situation. But I know from my own experience of fishing for wild, uncaught carp a lot bigger than the 15lb fish he expects that a rod of 2lb tc or less is ample, probably 1.5lb tc would be ideal. Regards the situation in France; there are catfish in my area of 100lb or more. They will take baits set out for barbel and carp what is JDHunting advocating; we all fish with 6lb tc rods and 100lb line for barbel just in case a catfish co
  5. But you don't need a 3lb test curve rod to catch the 15lb carp the OP expects. The reason these rods came about was for casting the sort of weights needed for bolt rigs to the horizon, not for playing fish. If you took your logic nobody fishing French rivers would use anything less than a 5lb tc rod just in case they hooked their 'fish of a lifetime'. But other than that one session then in the rest of their lives they would be massively overgunned for the size of fish they normally encounter. Don't forget that the rod designed to land a 44lb wild carp was only 1.5lb tc and the same type
  6. I think that disappearance has been answered. They probably won't find the body after all this time, but the question of his disappearance is settled.
  7. In practice the quiver section folds under heavy load and follows the line so you end up playing heavy fish on the lower part of the rod and the feeder section is redundant.
  8. Are you talking from experience or imagination? I've had lots of carp to over 23lb from French rivers on an old 1.5lb tc rod bought for £30 almost 15 years ago. Most of them whilst using centrepins. I also had a Korum Feeder rod and that handled carp to just under 20lb with no drama whatsoever. Also had cats to 35lb on a 2lb feeder rod and a medium 14 - 20g spinning rod.
  9. An Avon type rod typically has a stiff lower 2/3 and a flexible upper 1/3. A feeder rod isn't the same and typically has a stiffer action carried further up the rod then a very flexible tip. Some rods come with two tops, an Avon top and a Quiver Tip top. If you put the stiffest quiver tip, say 6oz into the carrier section you will see that the curve under load starts higher up the rod and is then much steeper than the same load on an Avon top. The difference between an Avon rod and an old fashioned carp rod is purely the test curve. An Avon has a tc of 1lb and a Mk. 4 carp rod 1.5lb tc. F

He has been under pressure for some time now trying to convince the industrialists that the UK would fold and they needn't worry about losing zero tariffs on exports to the UK. He should have been replaced months ago. Barmier is no negotiator. He is just a bully but looks like (hope
  11. You can cast 30 yds with a 1.5lb test curve rod and a centrepin reel. And land fish of that size. You don't need anything more than 1.75lb tc for what you are planning. Also you don't need a stiff action rod. That is for those who want to cast to the far bank of the moon. Go for a 10 or 11 foot Avon type blank and have some fun with your fishing.
  12. Or caused her to fall down the stairs.
  13. They both indicate blood albeit in different ways, but only Eddie indicates cadaver. So, there are issues in that Eddie did not indicate where Keela had. Also, they indicate any blood, not just Maddie's. In a holiday apartment or hire car there is no way of telling what might have occurred before that would cause an indication. The indication on Kate McCann's trousers could be down to menstrual fluid. The indication on the child's toy could have been the result of the child teething and chewing the toy. Those are the sort of ambiguities that could never stand up in court as proof of cadav
  14. I don't know who dunnit or what happened. But I'm 100% certain that the McCanns are lying to cover up something.
  15. Just Google using key words like "deep boring hardcore" and see what you come up with.
  16. They continuously refused to answer the questions put to them by the Portuguese police. And yes, Max Clifford did represent them.
  17. I don't usually disagree with your remarks Greyman, but you are way off with this. The cadaver dog wasn't one of the best in the world and the handler coaxed an indication out of it in the vehicle examination. I've worked with the dog and handler concerned and seen the footage so I'm not pulling stuff out of thin air. Also, a dog's indication is merely identifying an area that requires further investigation. That might mean taking swabs for DNA cultivation. The dog is trained to indicate the presence of human blood or body fluids. And they will do that for historic deposits. The other dog
  18. I used to have a car like that once. ?
  19. There was a Siberian bloke living on the same farm estate and we used to go down to the River Vienne on an evening to spin for catfish. Every one we caught was a couple of pounds either side of 20lb and he ate every one he caught. I put mine back. He called me into the cottage once to see his latest captures. There was one alive in the bath and another one cut into steaks in the fridge.
  20. Yes. I sold the kayak before we moved. It would have been useful out here as there aren't the same regulations on navigation on lakes and rivers. I now have a small boat and electric motor. I still use the Ugly Sticks though for catfish.
  21. Brilliant! Those old Ugly Sticks make cracking kayak rods don't they? No worries about splinters if a big bass decides to head under the boat. ? I wish that I hadn't sold mine. It would have got some use out here
  22. Most of the rats I get calls about are black rats or 'rat grenier' meaning attic rats. I've only seen a few brown rats over here. They tend to live in the roof spaces or wall voids, but the detached garden over the road from us has had them under the concrete floor of the garage. They come under the road using the drains and into our garden under the front gate. I've trapped and shot a few and always have traps set next to the front gate and at the back of the house next to the garage door. When I see them in the neighbouring garden I'll pop over the road, stand just outside the gate with

Zero restrictions? You mean they can hack into people's voicemails and intercept their post? Because that is what they are doing. And impersonating friends of people they have an interest in to obtain information by deception. There is in my opinion no justification for the scrum of press photographers hounding people. IF it were something like national security or uncovering corruption then the people who are subject to their attentions have no excuse. But we are talking about tittle-tattle and spurious allegations constructed by hypocrites in the media. Notice that they never report on

The Press need reining in PDQ. These are the same people who were hacking the Voicemails of relatives of murder victims and celebrities not to break some important news, but for the sake of tittle-tattle. They are self obsessed and cannot be trusted. Time for the Press Complaints Commission to get some new teeth.
  25. The police as an organisation is a complicated animal and very few people actually understand the issues involved. But, back in 1993 there was a TV program, Troubleshooter, where Sir John Harvey-Jones who had run the multi-national giant ICI was asked to look into the workings of my force and make recommendations. One of them was the amount of time front line police officers were spending typing 14 or 15 pages of reports to make a file for prosecution, much of the content of some pages was repeated over and over again. Each page had the offender's name, date of birth CRO number, address, date
