  1. The times I've been overnight I fished the day leading up to it so was either baiting spots during the day or just continued in the same places as during the day! but I'm by no means an expert when it comes to night fishing and carp etc sorry haha
  2. Okay thanks breeze! ive got a canon dslr but have never taken it out for any hunting, pictures like those make me think i should!
  3. Hope the find the B****rds mate! some people are just scum and will get what's coming to them one day, even if its not you who catches up with them if they rob enough people then someone will!! ATB
  4. wow cracking pictures all round! great action shots Breeze; what camera do you use for those?
  5. I've only been carp fishing a dozen or so times but its a good experience! I've done a few night sessions too and must admit I did enjoy it, especially on a good day with a few friends, even managed to get a 24lb'er which was a bonus on my first night trip! But that being said I much prefer going for silver fish or a good match! I personally find it more of a challenge and more exciting, carp are just big old water cows
  6. along we with the particle stuff we usually put a bed of sweetcorn down, they seem to love it! then fish it on the hook too and tend to pull them in all day! maybe thats just where we are but works for us! good luck, nice to see some other people after something other than carp these days!

from what i understand keeping a bird is hard enough work if you're its first owner and treat it well, I wish you good luck with one that's had a bad start in life as your first bird! sounds like you like a challenge! All the best! Matt
  9. ive just finished reading the emma ford and martin hollinshead's mentioned by david901 and they do give really good information
  10. I did the same sussex and you wont regret it! i think i read it in two sittings! you just wont want to put it down! Ive also just finished reading The Complete Rabbit and Hare Hawk by Martin hollinshead which is good when covering the basics, but it is, as the title suggests, more focused on purely hawking rabbits and hares rather than any wider aspects of the sport, still another book I found enjoyable and informative to read! Matt
  11. that will be good! looking forward to it!
  12. A great thread so thank you! I hope you do something similar next season! All the best with fishing now! Matt
  13. I see, interesting stuff! hopefully it will becoming something that can easily be done!
  14. would it be possible to have a camera on the ferret? anyone heard of that being done before? I think I would be really interesting to see but not sure if there are small enough camera available or if its safe for the ferret?
  15. really interesting to watch, great footage!
  16. Im new to falconry and so cant speak from experience but im currently reading Martin Hollinshead's 'the complete rabbit & hare hawk' (only pages in so may be different later in the book) but here he talks about flying through the moult and states many advantages? Its the first book ive read but it was extremely highly recommended on this forum and so far has been a very informative read!
  17. Hi all, I was recently recommended, on this forum, the book 'The Rites of Autumn' by Dan O'Brien, Would just like to share this with anyone interested in a great read about Falconry, its only a short book and I managed to pick it up for only a few pounds online! All the best and happy reading! Matt

great thread! really good looking birds and some great kills!
  19. Thanks for the response Longers, okay cool thank you thats interesting! I'm still a couple of years off of finishing uni so plenty of time to make decisions once i know more about the different birds and the sport itself but id assume I'd get one young and try to train it up myself my dad had a HH many years ago so hopefully he will be of some help! Either way both Harris' and red tails seem like fantastic birds! Great pictures by the way!
  20. Thanks guys! yes Mad4it, thanks, everyone is very kind, welcoming and helpful
  21. I've noticed that people generally go for a Harris or red tail for their first bird, Im a long way off the stage of getting a bird yet but out of curiosity and increasing my knowledge what the main differences between their training processes and is one much harder than the other? from what ive gathered the red tail would be harder to start with? sorry if im wrong and this is obvious though!
  22. great read, seems like shes coming along really nicely! Looking forward to following your progress with her
