Don’t know that one, was he fitting blinds or visually impaired?

    RIP?

An actor but also invented the wheelie bin

    RIP?

Nobody seems bothered that Rutger Haurer has died? I don’t really give a shit either but had become accustomed to finding out when famous people had popped their glogs when logging onto THL. Very sloppy.
  4. I’m sure the 3 year contract will have clauses written into it that allows Ashley or a new owner to give him a couple of quid and send him on his way any time they want. I genuinely want Bruce to do well though. The man is no fool and maybe I’m I am but I think he has taken on one of the most difficult jobs in the PL because he is a daft Geordie. Letting his heart rule his head. I respect that.
  5. This Joelinton situation is interesting. £30M +?. Either a sale of the club is imminent and the new owners have bought the player or the gambler Ashley has taken a proper punt this time. Gambling that the kid is the real deal and when he sells him in 12 or 18 month time his value will at least have doubled. Either way I am looking forward to seeing him play for NUFC and hoping he is worth watching.
  6. The recent pictures of red Lakelands are a very nice type. Whatever the recent breeding I would imagine Middleton and/or Ward blood in there ultimately going back to the likes of Irving etc. Used to be a common but good working type. Good to see that they're still about. We even got one from the local cat 'n dog shelter 30 odd year ago. Probably a pet that got too much to handle. Took to work from day one. A hard bitch, very hard, but always managed to do her job and never came to grief. Never bred from, a mistake but hindsight is a wonderful thing.
  7. I don't know your job or if employed or self employed but, safety boots are part of PPE. If you are an employee then the employer must provide them. The duty of care. In any line of work in the UK. If you're in construction, the minimum PPE requirements should be stated in the risk assessment/method statement that you produce or sign before starting work. That should include safety footwear. Toe and mid sole protection mandatory (to all intents and purpose) in the UK, as HSE Guidelines. We also provide boots for our lads with ankle protection even if the PC/Main Contractor does not specif
  8. They used to be for sale in the "catalogues" , the place where some of us used to get our clothes from. A few mates had them and all that I can say is, we managed to shoot rabbits with them. They were a sort of poor man's BSA Meteor. I never had either, at the time, they were a luxury item :-)
  9. I’ve sometimes looked back into my family history for dog names. At times way back and particularly middle names. Some that I had not even heard of but there was usually a reason for the middle name. Can be interesting and an unusual original name can be unearthed.
  10. I could not say whether it is worth the financial outlay to have restored, probably not as an investment, but as a 1st rifle, nothing wrong with it. Just basic DIY to get it shooting consistently at probably 8 ft/lb? It’s the type of air gun that many of used on rats and rabbits (sensible sub 30yards) and was effective. No need to spend massive amounts of money to hunt with an air rifle. Fieldcraft and learning to shoot straight being the important thing.
  11. If Cattermole is available on a free then I would not be surprised if ‘the well known gambler ‘ Mr. Ashley makes it happen. Just going for avoiding relegation this season again and any fun that Mr. Ashley can have at the expense of the NUFC supporters who have never appreciated what he had done for OUR club then it could happen
  12. Yep, 100%. I must be honest, don’t really care other than don’t want you to spend your money on Sean Longstaff. As a daft Geordie I want something to be thankful for before the transfer window closes ?
  13. As we are already on the topic of who bred what...does anyone genuinely know who really did breed the Parson Russell's Trump? I was always told that it was the milkman but have my doubts.
  14. I'm sure that there are men still around who do know. Various accounts have appeared in print over the years and some of them contradictory. To lesser mortals like me I think Smithy has just become part of terrier folklore, a legend almost. Those that know do, those that don't maybe never will. A bit like who bred Parson John Russell's Trump? But I think maybe Smithy has had a greater (x 1 million) influence on the working terrier of today than the Parson's did.
  15. The confusion and ambiguity regarding pedigrees and dog's names (always dependant on the breeders honesty of course) was solved years ago by the Kennel Club. That's why they have such amazing names. Gizagrand Brock and Upyourarse Brock can easily by identified and differentiated from each other by their KC prefix. Gizagrand Brock I and Gizagrand Brock II likewise. The only problem is their dogs are shite and we would not really be bothered about who or what bred what. Be careful what you wish for ?.
  16. Cracking looking old fashioned Sealyham/Russell types in the black n white pic. Thanks for sharing
  17. How things can change in such a short time. Full of hope at the end of last season. Making progress on the pitch at last. Then news of a takeover. Looking even better! No takeover, Raffa gone, Perez gone, Rondon not signed, the sale of the rest of the "family silver" far more likely than unlikely. The sale of Perez in particular pisses me off. A speculative buy from Spanish 2nd division. An unconventional player. Not a centre forward, not a "number 10", not a winger. But was the nearest thing that we had to attacking talent under various managers that meant he became established in
  18. A coursing man and NUFC supporter so had his good points
  19. That's an air rifle that I always wanted but never got around to owning. Particularly with the walnut thumbhole stock, the Olympus I think Theoben called them. Had a mate who got one of the original siroccos with a deluxe walnut stock. He always seemed to have money even in the days when everyone else was skint. I think he won a little bit on the pools or spot the ball but never let on. It was a lefty but I always found it easy to shoot. Maybe something to do with the quick lock time but was probably just an inherently accurate rifle even in the 1st version that they made. Very nice rifle you
  20. Tragic death this week at a Nestle factory when a guy got buried under a spilt load. Emergency services said he could have survived if help had came sooner. Problem was every time he shouted out "the Milky Bars are on me!" all his co workers did was cheer!
  21. That's a rare stamp of Mink Hound in the foreground...looks a like a fast one though.
  22. I would think that how much Raffa would be given to spend, or how much he would be picking up in wages was not the problem. More likely he would not be permitted to spend the money on players he wants and keep who he wants to keep. Ashley's "business plan" at NUFC has always been buy cheap and sell at a profit. Carroll (cost nothing), Sissoko, Wijnaldum etc. And it has been a good business plan. NUFC still in Premier League and I would imagine as a business still showing profit. Not to mention free worldwide advertising for the tatt that the owner sells. But what type of football manager with
  23. I still have hope that the reported interest from a new owner is genuine and goes ahead. Not expecting Man City type investment but would hope for an owner who's ambition extends to a little more than avoiding relegation and getting TV money. 2nd half of last season we actually started to play ok football and did not look out of place in the league. If the new owner brought Raffa back and let him continue with what he started to build (signing Rondom a must) then that would do. It ain't over 'till the fat lady sings, or rather the fat b#####d leaves. That fat b. being Ashley not Raffa.
  24. Someone desperate that no other Premier club would even consider giving a job
