I was the wallflower looking on thinking "wish I could do that ". I didn't used to do too badly though, would just sit in a corner with a pint, licking my eyebrows.

A mate of mine was very into northern soul way, way back. Thing is he can still move when the mood takes him and people, especially women, love it. Even at his decrepit age. Nothing like being a good dancer to impress lasses.

what came 1st the grey wolf or the dog?
eastcoast replied to sandymere's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
No one ever seems to be able to define exactly what wild canine became the "dog". Modern behavioural research in regard to socialising present wild canines just seems to confound earlier theories. I may be getting old and sentimental but the thing that separates a dog from a wild canine, is that incredulous bond between humans and dogs. More so the bond or wiling association with us that they crave. Even the most abused or even correctly bred and professionally worked dogs instantly respond to bit of affection and kind words that they are not accustomed to. Personally I think -
I suppose business is business and anything that brings profit is good business? Nothing else matters.

It would be interesting to know if the catahoula hound (?) had more to offer than a fell hound? Possibly more intelligent? More tractible. Less of a pack hound?
-
I take it you don't rate them? Genuine question, I have never seen 1 let alone seen 1 hunt.
-
My mistake. Thought they were still allowed in UK. I must be thinking of Irish staffs.

That's something that has always puzzled me. The Am Staff is an AKC registered APBT, so how do they have discernible different DNA when they test these things?

I was doing a job in Falkirk when the 1st series started. Shown on C4 at 11 or sometimes 11:30. Every Thursday night, have a few pints with the lads and then get a takeaway curry from the restaurant across the road and take it up to my room and settle down to the show. The highlight of my week at the time.

The cleverest thing about it to me that is probably down to great writing, casting and acting, was that I loved the characters and was routing for them even though they were all massive c**ts and not the type of people that you want to come across in real life.

I was just about to post something similar. A big fan of JCC (was meant to see him again at the Sage this year but postponed due to Covid), it was the icing on the cake when Chicken Town was over the end credits.

Those 2 types of dogs, if we are being honest... no need for anything else.

Look like terriers built like brick shit out houses. As they all should be. L

Italian Greyhounds (and crosses)

In that photograph from that angle and the way the dog happens to be standing it may well be. Almost impossible to tell from 1 picture. It certainly doesn't appear to have the exaggerated deep chest or roached back that the typical modern Borzio's have. Looks a nice type of dog. -
Your threads generate some interesting discussion. Is that not the point of silly internet forums? And everyone annoys everyone else anyway, apart from myself of course. Welcome to THL.

I wasn't recommending anyone do it ? but if you stay awake? Obviously needs to be addressed at source 1st... the host. Good luck with building the relationship with your new mate. The older I get the softer I get and the more I appreciate the things that we gain from the symbiotic relationships that we sometimes develop with animals other than as hunting assistants.

Reading back through this thread in regard to getting rid of fleas, or rather mopping up survivors: A lit candle fixed in a plate of cooking oil. Not sure why it works and I'm not getting myself confused with moths, but it does. It draws them out and they jump towards the flame and die in the oil. Not recommending that anyone tries it from an H&S perspective but after I once inadvertently got an temporary infestation in my bedroom as kid after sneaking a sick ferret inside I was told to do it, and stay awake all night which I did, and witnessed it happening.

I managed to start up an old laptop today and found these pics from 12 year ago. Nothing outstanding about them but were taken over a weekend when I introduced a nephew into the finer things in life. His mam didn't want to encourage his developing interest in dogs and guns and things like that. Not that she is anti but had seen her brother become obsessed with such things. But, he kept badgering away until he was allowed to come along. He turned out to be a natural but his mam had nothing to worry about. He is far cleverer than his uncle and will soon be a qualified vet. ps. the

One of the best opening sequences to a film ever. Mind you, anything with a Stranglers song over it is given you starter for 10

Not able to like the post for some reason but a great film. A friend of mine has always named his male dogs after characters in Wayne's films, some of them rather tenuous. He always kept it to himself but I eventually caught on.

Could hunt anything I wanted apart from foxes, Jed hunt. Great days, but I really wanted the foxes

Had some great permission down the road (or so it seemed at the time when time and distance was no object) Camptown but they pronounced it Kempton ?
-
A "neighbour " of mine shifted up there many years ago. I say neighbour rather than friend as he didn't like me but tolerated me.

Hawick, Scottish borders? A blast from the past. Used to have some good rabbit permission there or abouts. No chance with foxes, every other man in the town seemed to have a kennel of terriers.
