Hi Try this http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-12840557

I have been thinking about this some more, and apart from making sure the gun you get fits, my advice to anyone new to shotguns is always to to get OU as your first gun, unless you have medical need for a semi. You can always get one later if feel you want one. Also don't spend too much as you may give up, or you may find some other reason to have to change it. I have owned quite a few shotguns and the one I liked the best was a lovely Beretta 687 with great wood, but it had to go to pay my mortgage in 1990! I am afraid I have been out of the game for a while, so I am not sure what the cur

We are lucky to have plenty of barbel in the River Lea, the Ouse and the Ivel round here and number of top anglers use match tactics to bring in sizeable fish. One of the best has written it up here.

Cheers - useful to know, as I am planning to dust off my current air rifle soon.

That's some very accurate air rifle shooting villaman. I saw you comment on the 65 yard grouping. What's the maximum kill range you would use for rabbit with a sub 12? I always worked on 40 yards myself when I was air rifling, and then it has to be a head shoot only. (Edit - perhaps I should add that this is a genuine question that I don't know the answer to and am interested to know. I remember though being surprised when I was young on how far air rifle pellets can travel when fired from a sub 12 at the right trajectory.)

I don't think I'd have laughed if I was the victim!!

I am sure you are absolutely right, but I went to some professional gun fitters, eg at Holland and Holland, and they didn't get a try gun out, or even another gun than my own. Maybe I should have missed the clays they put up. Ruster did say he is "relatively new to shotgun hunting" (shotgun hunting?), so we don't have a reference point as to how much he has already found about about his own fitting requirements and level of ability. It is difficult to comment properly other than recommend that any gun he buys fits, or is adjusted until it does, but it is still vald to suggest makes and mo

I also said early in the thread that "Whatever you get needs to fit you and feel right. Are you right handed and right eyed? ........." However unless the OP is very unusual, most of the suggestions here still hold good imo, regardless of the fact that we dont know what will actually fit him. Gun fitting is of course important, but to be fair most people will fit a gun with a standard cast and drop as long as the stock is the right length and they don't have the opposite master eye to their preferred shooting shoulder. I am sure some will disagree with me, but in my time I have visited

I guess the obvious question, without meaning to being rude is how well can you shoot a shotgun now and how much shooting have you done? This will help suggest what price range to go for. Personally I always manged to look after mid quality guns, ie around the £800 to £1600 mark. Whatever you get needs to fit you and feel right. Are you right handed and right eyed? Hopefully you will already know this, but if not I am sure there will be more advice to follow. Again if this stuff is already on the site somewhere, I am sorry for posting it again but most of mortals can't use any shotgun we c

Seconded and ignore side-by side. An OU will keep it's value or even go up if you get secondhand. A semi auto will go down in value. However I have to use to use a semi with an additional ISIS recoil pad because I have a knackered neck but I have very few jams with my Beretta. One thing though - if you buy secondhand ideally go to a dealer and still take someone who knows what to look for. This is now an 8 year old clip and probably been posted on here before, but I like it (and of course that weapon is not available on an SC) : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y_GtGafLpgo

My uncle started FAC with a short, FAC pneumatic .22 air rifle that took, I think, about 9 manual pumps on the lever thingy per shot. It was really great though and certainly taught you to be a good stalker and accurate with one shot at a time and a huge gap in between shots. FAC air rifles certainly have their place, not least because the pellet will land harmlessly if fired upwards, whereas a .22 bullet has killed at least one person on landing after a shot up into trees, unbeknown to the shooter until later.

If you are representing yourselves I am sure you can demand to see their evidence upfront. And if you get a solicitor I am sure they get it beforehand as a matter of course. It makes sense, as you can't be expected to gather all the relevant facts and get your own witnesses for your defence on the day! It is still innocent until proven guilty in England, although sometimes you wouldn't think so according to the media. Good luck - but from what you say it should be thrown out of court.

Ah ha. Anyway - I will still use a PM if there is a next time!

It was me that started it I think and I apologise if my post was taken in the wrong way. In fact I never said the fish was undersize - I simply asked if there is still a size limit and the discussion continued. Very soon it was clear the smaller fish was well over the size limit - which imo is good. However in the photo it is lying right next to the reel and using that as a guide, it did look short and that is the only reason I made any comment at all. I guess the reel is bigger than I thought. No malice or mischief was intended. I guess I could have asked how long is the smaller fish, but

No malice or mischief intended whatsoever - that's why I tried to be careful in what i said (especially as I am also a new member) and everything is more than good anyway! I apologise if my post was seen in any other way! I hope they tasted good too!

Good to see they are the right size. The smaller one did look under from the photo. Mustn't give any antis any ammo.

Best Dslr & Lens For Action Shots?
Lid replied to Terra Firma's topic in Wildlife and General Photography
If you want to go down a price level from the 7D, but up from the 350D, consider the Canon 70D. A secondhand 50D or 60D is well worth considering too. If you are relatively new to action photography (and I am no expert, believe me) then a good pair of zoom lenses will work with higher ISOs and then you can build up to better, faster and fixed lenses later. I use a 50D with a Canon 17 - 85 and a Tamron 70 - 300 IS and here an sample shot with the bigger lens, albeit in good light (BTW that was in gallop). I had my right hand and forearm in plaster at the time too! Go here for -
Great stuff! I caught my first bass on a dead sandeel. Is there still a size limit for retaining bass these days?

I was taught in school that the myxy cycle is around 10 years, if I remember right. After the first blast whenever that was, the rabbits that survived were immune and produce immune offspring. Over a 10 year period, enough have lost this immunity through mutations and the cycle starts again, killing off many and leaving only those few with immunity. These then produce more immune ones, but slowly they begin to produce some non immune offspring, and so on forever. He didn't cover whether the potency of the disease changes though, but I think that comes into the mix too.

I always loved jugged hare when I was young, cooked by my grandmother. I've only had it once since about 1979 and I didn't prepare it quite right - it was fine, but I didn't think I should subject my family to the partially cooked blood that is a key part of the recipe. I keep meaning to have another go, but most places round here leave the hares unshot. I might get one from the butcher this winter though!
