Nicely done pal. I love a bit of farmyard shooting.
-
I can vouch for that too pal. My best woody perm has gone crap this last month so while out lamping it for bunnies the other night i had a quick scan of the roosts just to see how many are around and was surprised to find none at all but 2 buzzards looking very bloomin cozy indeed. Here on anglesey you cant go a day without seeing at least 10 different buzzards and thats a bad day. Great looking birds and its nice to see them but they are growing in population like mad around here.

Seems like the hard work is starting to pay off now as one of my perms gave my number to her friend who has got a bit of a bunny problem so after work i popped down to introduce myself and to have a look around. I only needed to look in 1 field and it was obvious so i said i would nip down later on and make a start. Having only an hour and a half to play with i got back down there and reduced the numbers by six with just a quick wander round, much to the landowners delight but plenty more more to go at while its still so mild.

Mix them with some rabbit and some cheap turkey leg meat and thats the protein sorted for a really tasty casserole!

Just a quick one really. I was out in the back garden setting zero when i clocked a couple of bandits in the pines at the bottom of the garden scrapping without a care in the world. Obviously this is an opportunity not to be sniffed at and as zero had just been found and set i took the cross hairs to this fellas head and settled the argument he was having with number 2, who i hoped would hang around but didnt, he took off at top speed but never mind, 1 is better than none.

That was my gut feeling to both replies. They are shotgun quarry despite being very tasty.

Well the rabbits are still in abundance on my local golf course which is good for sport but so too are the woodcocks....i mean lots of them. Ive seen them at dawn..dusk and even while lamping but im not sure about the rules on shooting them with an air rifle on the ground. I know its the season but i dont want to cross any legal boundries. Has anyone else come across this one as some good sound advice is always welcomed from my shooting brothers on here. Kind regards as always. Matt

Im with villaman. You should get a nice hw or an AA springer to get going and they would both do the job nicely
-
Only had mine on for 10 days and every shots been off the pod. To make it worse mines a 13-23 so if im sitting low against a tree i can even use it then!! I need to go out without it to learn to shoot again hahahah

For me it was the hw 100 and the s410f classic and the classic won it, only because as j-edwards said, they are that bit more money and having shot my pals 100 it wasnt justifyably better. (Plus the fact i owned one before and loved it)

Its the s410f classic .177 Im told the f means improved internals? Nikko sterling 3-9×50 AO Air Arms moderator And when out in the field i have a deben 13-23 pod and tracer led ray lamp. Go for it...you will be very happy with the results

These are destined for the local falconry. If they were woodies then pot roast but the hawks and owls will be getting stuck into these tomorrow

A good pal and customer of mine keeps prize cattle and sheep and was complaining of the feral pigeons making a mess in one of the grain stores so after work i popped down with the s410, and got rid of a few for him. Quite a few found an escape route through a hole at the back but it was lights out for these few and there is always next time for the escapees!!

S410 in walnut a few years back. Strapped for cash and it was sitting there with a tasco pronghorn on it. Properly gutted....but i went out and picked up one a couple of weeks ago in beech though....sadly not with the tasco but still very happy.

Im biased because i love a .177 and if your lucky to get a pellet that suits the gun perfect, which you obviously have done then apart from the odd flyer which we all get from time to time they are well on the money every time. Nice shooting once again mate.
-
Congrats Jjm. Now thats the kind of phone call you dont mind getting in the field!! Spud gun for 1st birthday i reckon!
-
Thats what this sport is all about. Nice write up mate. Hopefully the little fella will be doing the same with his lad when the time comes too.
-
Cheers fellas. The lamp is spot on but i was a bit dubious about the 13-23 pod being too tall but after trying it out it fits nice either lying down or sitting with the legs fully extended. I will keep you posted. ATB Matt.

After purchasing a tracer led ray lamp and deben 13-23 bipod i was gagging to get out and try them out, so when i had finished all the jobs her indoors requested doing today i managed to get down to the golf course just after dark. No stalking tonight, i just set up 40 yards from a well used run that ive noticed. I managed 3 clean headshots all from the pod so im well chuffed so after gutting them in the field its back home to skin them. Im looking forward to the next lamping session now.

Bit contravertial i know but..... a self certified ballistic geek once explained to me (not that i fully understood) that basically the effect of the muzzle blast of a carbine barrel on the pellet after exiting the barrel should in theory have a significant effect on accuracy......but look how accurate carbines are. I personally dont think that over the ranges we shoot at it makes a significant difference at all.

The Perfect Permission Bean Eaters
mattwhite replied to bigruss's topic in General Airgun Discussion
I had the same on my local golf course. I wanted to speak to the greenkeeper and the golf pro who had asked me to call in about the rabbit problem but i phoned instead only to get the receptionist. When she asked what the call was about and i told her she went all bean eater on me saying that they are not really a pest!!!! And asked me what harm they do on the course!!!! Absolutely gobsmacked at how stupid she had sounded i asked her to ask the greenkeeper who spends every waken hour trying to keep the greens perfect what harm they do!!!!! But after all the unnecessary conversation i end -
Well its good to be back again. Being a self employed fishmonger on Anglesey means that during the holiday season its hard to find 5 minutes for a wee let alone go out shooting. So when things calmed down a little and i took the tx out only to shoot 1 rabbit and scare the rest off with the shot i thought its time to get myself a pcp again. Now dont get me wrong i LOVE springers and the mk 3 tx is the finest springer i have ever owned but im a one gun man so had to chop her in to get another so i opted for an s410f classic standard length in .177. I owned an s410 a few years back and im still
