Heard a few people say they had poodle/grey and pretty game dogs krawnden? Rare x though Mine was shaping up to be a great allrounder, but unfortunately got killed on the road aged 21 months, so in all fairness I couldn't say he'd been thoroughly tested. But he was fast, agile, had good coat and feet and used his nose well. Was great with ferrets and sensible around the nets, had taken daytime hare, muntjac and roe and had retrieved his first goose from the water (I do a bit of wildfowling). It's also a distinct possibility that he caught the very last legal hare in this country - or at the

I've made my lanyard longer so the torch hangs down to about waist level. But I never leave it just hanging - it's just a precaution in case I should ever drop the thing. I have the lanyard round my neck and when I'm not actually using the torch it goes in my pocket - the extra length of the lanyard lets it reach.

I used to have a first cross standard poodle x greyhound and would have another one in a heartbeat

I suspect a lot of it comes down to concern about finding homes for pups. Even if someone decided to breed a litter because they wanted a pup bred that way, they're still faced with the possibility of being stuck with half a dozen pups that no one wants because it's an uniusual cross that most people wouldn't be prepared to take a chance on. "Chances" in the equation have spawned many a diamond, yet much more "coal",far, far better to breed from proven stock and take the "chance" factor out, saying that without the folk taking the "risk factor" some diamonds would never be unearthed.

Where d'you do most of your fishing bunny tickler?

I used to keep a vasectomised hob in the same cage as entire jills and castrated hobs and they were all fine. But I've only done it once and one swallow doesn't make a summer - my guess is it'll vary from hob to hob. But I'm planning on trying it again...

Though I've been fishing nearly my whole life I'm new to sea fishing. Had a crack at the bass last summer using Savage Gear sandeels 'cos someone recommended them to me and caught 3 in the space of 15 mins, best of which was just under 5lb

Hope she didn't jump into a net - that's when the fun really starts

Yeah, the old biilhook technique was a new one on me an' all . But fair play - hope I can still be at it at that age...
-
I think anyone after this cross would have to breed it themselves as trying to find a litter would be like looking for hens teeth...

Thats my plan to breed a litter and keep back 2 hobs, hoping for 2 light coloured hobs in the litter. Given a choice of colour I prefer light ones too as they're so much easier to see in the thick cover i do a lot of (especially as the older I get, the worse my eyesight becomes )

I'm a big fan of castrated hobs. Best ferret I've ever owned was one. Haven't got any at the moment but planning on breeding a litter this year specifically to keep back 2 or 3 hobs to have them castrated. The only downside to them is when you get a goodun you can't breed from him.

Best Pic Of One Of Your Lurcher

Lovely looker pesky - how's she bred? -
Just don't see that working fella. Even if you managed to come by a kit and rear it so it was tame, I reckon you'd lose it as soon as you started trying to work it - they're quick as feck. It'd be up the hedge and gone faster than you could say Phil Drabble (even though his was a weasel)

I still remember where I got the buzz from clear as day even though it was over 40 years ago. As I kid I was passionate about wildlife (still am) and used to spend all my pocket money on wildlife related stuff. Used to buy bird feeders to hang in the garden, bought binoculars, bird watching books etc etc. I read loads of books on natural history, animal tracks, blah blah, blah. One of the books I read was "The Private Life of the Rabbit" by R.M. Lockley. Pretty dry reading matter for a 10 yr old kid - it's full of scientific sort of observations about rabbit behaviour - but I was fascinate

You're right Rob, I just like to see a bit more enthusiasm. And to be fair, for the most part he's not like that...

I would say it's mostly when he thinks he's not going to catch... and of course that becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy

My bushing pup's going from strength to strength and gets loads of game on the move now. On this afternoon's walk she pushed about a dozen rabbits out- fantastic. Unfortunately every now and then the lurcher's just a bit half hearted about it and today he had one of those runs. Instead of committing to it 110% he just eased off the gas - http://youtu.be/gBEy6qdVGRI

I agree you need to put the time into training them. Don't know I'd agree with the bit about having a better nose than a terrier though. I think any dog has the potential to use its nose well, and it's all about whether it's given the opportunity to develop its nose. Best nose I ever saw on a dog was a first cross bedlington greyhound. Virtually every single day of its life it was taken onto ground that held game and was allowed to hunt. By the time it was about 5 or 6 years old it understood scent to a phenomenal degree.
