  1. Thanks wi11ow. She's a real livewire, that's for sure. I'd say the biggest problem I've got with her is that when she's fired up she is rather prone to turning a deaf ear. Mind you, to be fair to her, when she does turn a deaf ear she nearly always pushes something out within the next 30 seconds or so But I don't want her to think she can just ignore me and always do her own thing...
  2. Sounds great. Mine's yet to really encounter water - very little of it around where i tend to hunt. She's leaped a few streams, and where they were a bit too wide for her to easily clear has fallen short and landed with a splosh, but then come straight up the bank. That doesn't really count as swimming!
  3. That's a lovely looking dog... if i didn't know better i would guess it was a first x whippet terrier. atb daywalker. Thanks daywalker - I'm very pleased with her. She certainly leans towards the whippet....
  4. Half cross should certainly be good for ferreting and bushing. But unless you use a terrier that's well up on the leg I don't think you should expect it to be fast enough to take rabbits in the open.
  5. Can't see myself using the strobe tbh - much simpler & quicker I'd have thought just to wobble the torch about if that's the effect you're after
  6. Put it this way some spots I been doing for years held a bit gear then I got my terrier in and see triple due to him flushing stuff I'm in exactly the same boat - since getting my terrier I've been amazed at how much game has been there all along and I've never realised it...
  7. You can put the lanyard on your wrist if you'd prefer.... The locking slidy thing on the lanyard will tighten it up on your wrist if you want it to... Good point FD - I'll have a play with that and see how I get on....
  8. I found the lanyard was a bit short for my liking - not much room to move your arm around much 'cos the torch has to stay close to your chest. But having read that dropping it could feck it up, perhaps I ought to make myself a longer lanyard and use that...
  9. She's very quick for her size. Has grabbed a few bolters while ferreting, but hasn't always been able to hang onto them in thick cover. Not sure if it's down to inexperience or lack of jaw power.... She caught - and hung onto - her first one while bushing at the weekend
  10. No idea Kevin - got him from a rescue place that couldn't tell me anything about his breeding, only that he'd already been through several homes. But from his temperament I'd say it's highly unlikely there's wheaton, or any other sort of terrier, in there...
  11. They do look similar, but your pups are going to end up taller - if they're 6 months there's quite possibly another inch or so to go. Mine's 14" at 81/2 months, and I'm hoping she doesn't get any bigger...
  12. This was taken a few months ago when she was around 5 months old. I'll try and take some up to date pics over the w/e... OK fairy - here are some up to date ones; (I can't get them small enough to all go in one post...)
  13. Pup looks great kps - how's it coming on in the field?
  14. You're completely ignoring the fact that it's a legal obligation for landowners to control rabbits - Section 1 of the Pests Act 1954 places a continuing obligation on occupiers of land in a rabbit clearance area (that is, the whole of England and Wales except the City of London, the Isles of Scilly and Skokholm Island), to kill or take any wild rabbits living on or resorting to their land, unless they can demonstrate that it is not reasonably practicable to do so. In the latter case they have an obligation to prevent the rabbits from causing damage elsewhere by, for example, fencing them i
  15. So presumably you're a vegetarian? Because if not how do you condone eating meat when every pig behind the sausage, every beast behind the steak, every chicken etc etc has had its life extinguished for profit....
  16. I know Gaffer's posted some Striker v K50 photos on another thread, but here's a quick - and not very good, I'm afraid - video comparison of the two. I shot this footage last night but I was trying to juggle camera, Striker and K50 on my own and finding it a tad tricky. In the video both beams look rather unimpressive - not sure if that was something to do with the camera angle in relation to the angle I was shining at?? Either way, the video doesn't do justice to either beam to be fair. But what you can see is the wider spill of the K50. If you like a pencil-tight beam the K50's not for you.
  17. You must be chuffed to bits - what great experience for her.
  18. Love the look of that bitch Maximus - is there a touch of deerhound in there somewhere?
  19. Great when it all falls into place like that - you must be well chuffed. My lurcher and busher are working more and more like a team all the time now. Well, strictly speaking I suppose I should say that the lurcher's learning to fit in with the busher - who just works for herself - but the lurcher's twigged that she's a dab hand at pushing stuff out of cover and if he pays attention to her he's in with a good chance of some action.
