They would need some sort of artificial light to be in season this early. If they are indoors like you say that would be the reason!

Pigeon will hit turnips hard,i have shot hundreds on them over the years. In my experience you need it cold/snow and or not alot of alternative food around. One of my best ever bags was on turnip when we had a few inches of snow, turnips were the only food sticking through and it was a massacre

I always make sure my ferrets have food an hour or so before i go,on top of their normal feeding regime. If iam on a full day il take some ferret bisscuits with me or pounch a rabbit whilst out and share the offal. I STRONGLY DISAGREE working ferrets hungary or Starved. Both sexes have their place IMO.I normaly start a bury with jills and see what happens from there ,if the warren is big or the ferrets are struggling to shift em i introduce the boys.Hobbs def have a role to play and i can reley on my boys 100%

Mate its free, my ferrets love them, you can hose them off and there bloody indistructable when i get time iam gonna build a tyre tower for em stack of tyres all stuck together strategic holes cut linking em.He will love it.He will think hes got his own helter skelter lol P.s if anyone wants tyres just pop down your local tyre fitter he will give them to you for free!
-
No not daft lol.One of my hobbs will destroy anything shop brought etc so he has a transit tyre to play with lol. I cut some 3inch holes with a hole saw, couple in the side maybe 1 or 2 in the bottom and same for top. I lay the tyre flat and fix 3 lengths of chain from it and then hang this about 4-6 inches from the ground(like a swing)He runs in and out it, runs round it and even sleeps in it when its hot but its the only bloody thing he aint destroyed yet!! You have to be careful alot of tyres have metal strands running through them, which once you have cut your holes can be sharp.I got roun

Yes mate mine have hay/wood shavings in ther hut and just concrete in the run pipes tyres logs etc i just chuck the toys out when i clean the run and put em back when iam done.Hose to whole lot out the door straight to a drain happy days. I have a gilotine door that i can operate from outside to lock them i their hutch while iam cleaning etc. I find with mine that they crap far end of there hutch and far end of there run. Your setup would be fine if its temp until you build something more permanent. The reason i like my setup is iam a busy man(own buisness)so time is crucial to me.I can em

If you can get them to use litter trays that would work, but personaly ive never had any luck with them. could you not lose the shed floor and mount it on concrete or slabs?Makes cleaning alot easier I would also leave the shed door as it is and build a complete mesh door inside that.Basicaly if its hot you have mesh door shut and normal door open and vise versa depending on weather but you would need a board of some sort to stop them running out! I put a couple of runners either side of door opening and cut a peace of ply that i can just slide in and out, works a treat. If not your probrably

Atleast you got out mate, some days are harder than others agreed.Rather ten hard earned rabbits than ten f*******ing hours at work lol

vanman1 replied to Minkenry's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting

Looking For Kit, From Working Background!
vanman1 replied to Josh_Jack's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
Hi i will have some kits later in the year if your interested ? your gonna struggle this time of year to get anything reliable unless you know the source. You might be better waiting and get 2/3 at 8 week ish and rear them on your way.I dont charge for my ferrets just a donation towards some food is fine more important to me is they get a good home wether that be working or pet. -
Crap mate steer clear.Get yourself a nice bulldog spade ive got one about 30 inches strap it to my rucksack, will last you a life time!
-
Me personaly depending on the size of the bury,i run it through with x amount of jills. Normaly start with 1 or 2 and see how it goes if i hear the magic rumble leave them to it see what they push out and take it from there.Sometimes they just bolt and bolt ive even had rabbits bolt whilst iam still netting up!!Evey day/warren is different just keep going until your happy that your ferrets have done the best they can. Could be 5 mins could be all day!
-
Yes i agree in general mate but sometimes a jill cant move them and doesnt stay with it long enough as she gets frustrared or side tracked.Once my jills have had a fair crack at pushing them out if iam not happy with the results il remove the jills and flush with a hobb or 2.you obviously wouldnt do this on a deep warren but rarley on my ground do i dig more than 2-3ft. Couple of weekends ago i was out 90% of holes were in thick bramble warren was maybe 20yards long i started 2 jills one end and worked them slowley along the bury i bolted 5 rabbits from un netted holes than went back down fur
-
Always take my 2 hobbs along they are my insurance policy In some ways i think they are better than jills my boys are slow but thorough if there is bunny at home i would put my life on he will find it and stay with it if it doesnt bolt.Sometimes if iam not happy with way the jills have worked a borrow il just give it a quick sweep with the boys to be sure. Many a rabbit has fallen fowl of this trick. The trick in my opinion is spend time with your ferrets you will learn how they work they are all different in some way,but the information gained can be the difference between success and failu
