Cheers, I would have sworn blind I've seen docked borders. I'll look again. I was wondering if it would look odd on a larger dog.

Looking crackng. What's the opinion on docking a first cross if it's intended for bushing.

My aunty took one of the siblings from the same liter, we ended up taking it during the day because it barked endlessly when she went to work. I was up in Cumbria fishing during the summer, I saw a collie/spaniel there that looked a good type. Like a solid bulky spaniel as opposed to a lobg eared collie. Does anyone want to put up some pictures of some of these dogs? Just because I like to see them. This is my current project:

I forgot I posted this, some good examples. It is amazing what people end up with. I wonder how many odd dogs were bought before the gun and game into service after? I have often wondered about using collies etc. When I was a young teenager I had an Alsatian that was an obsessive retriever and was the most trainable dog I have ever owned. I was going to try him, but unfortunately he was run over at about 18 months old. Swam really well, would even fetch things from upto 3ft underwater! I have had 2 spaniel/cross collies and I thought they would be ace, but they just proved to be the wo

I get that, I was more tallking about your criticism of breeding them with whippets/patts/spaniels etc. I know you are doing a good job with a bit of outcrossing your own. I have a classic example of something that was sold as a pure plummer, she isn't spannable and currently stands at 15" at 9 months. Her chest is like a mini whippets. But I have no complaints as I was after something like it. It was your comments about the difference in breed and people crossing this with that. I have already ruled out breeding from my bitch as I don't think she has anything to add to a working plummer

Also never have the camera . I went out with the HW100 earlier, just a relaxed walk. Bumped off two rabbits and laid up over the corner of a muck heap, and about 100yrds away was a big dog fox, squealed (not looking for a shot, just out of interest) and he looked, then put his head down, squealed again and he charged at me, was sat watching him, got about 20 yards away and a noise to my right made me look. Another fox was all of 5yrds away charging up the muck heap, I don't know who jumped higher!!! The fox that saw me went out of sight but the big dog scented me and sat again 100yrd

They're coming on well mate.

I agree with the sentiment, and it is a case of breeding pups for pups sake. But is this not how the plummer came about, I have seen a lot of people asking about breeding terriers with beagles.. and they are almost breeding plummers! Would surely this would only be a problem if you were selling these as pure plummer? I will also take back a comment I made on this thread before about there not being much difference regardless of the type of terrier. I have come to realise that plummers make a better alrounder more consistently than most.

I don't know why no one else mentions this. Itcworks with all corvids. My favourite trick is to sit and watch for a tree that gets crows reguarly perched in it. Build a very good hide and wait. Once you drop one, what ever corvid it isthey'll decend. For several birds then you can keep picking them off. It will continue until you are spotted. I've done 30 odd crows with the air rifle this way. I sorted out some jackdaws for my aunty that were decending from the dairy farm over the road and nicking most of the goose food. Put a hide net between 2 sheds 30yrds away. Left the gun leant u

My girlfriend got this done a couple of Christmas's back.

good looking pups, I see many uses for these alongside a typical lurcher

I am a google expert , just looked it up. Everything I have read confirms interbreeding.

Lucky that mate.. I know accidents can happen and the Act allows for that.. They could of twisted or misinterpreted your intentions.. Copper sounded a reasonable chap. I would of been shitting my pants I was on my lane and the beaters drove a roe straight through the hedge and ploughed into the old bitch right next to some beaters ... They got her off before I could get to her but they then let the dog go and she nailed it in the field ... As soon as the copper heard the words I was on the road he was happy ... In fairness he is a decent sort with an understanding of t

I was wondering about this myself, I know the Irish hare is a subspecies of the mountain/blue hare. Though as has been mentioned there are talks about making it a separate species. The brown hare has been introduced to Ireland, and is interbreeding. There are only mountain hare's in Ireland for the same reason there aren't any snakes; because the Irish sea is deeper than the English channel and cut off Ireland quicker than the UK from mainland Europe as the last ice age ended and the more southern species didn't make it there. I was wondering more if anyone in Scotland has coursed the mou

I've got my saluki whippet here or I would! I like this cross because I had one. Maybe in a few seasons I'll buy one or breed one.i've seen the 'whirrier' threads on here. Some look belting little lurchers. Picked her up this afternoon:
-
I've been thinking about this cross for a long time now, I've already got a half decent lurcher and I'm more than happy with my terrier so hopefully I'll end up with something in between the two of them! Where I mainly walk I think one of these pups will do me fine, like you say they might be a bit slow catching a rabbit flat out in a field but they should make good ferreting and mooching dogs, just need to try make my mind up what one I'm keeping now! The do look belting, if they take the border coat it can't be a bad thing, I know my old dog once she started to use her head after abo

This is why I am interested in the cross, I know there are hundreds of crosses out there but it is interesting. They cross bedlingtons, with lads saying they would prefer to cross a proper earth dog than a larger bedlington. Then moan when people ask about crossing patterdales etc with whippets, saying what does an earth dog have to give to the whippet. My old dog was a terrier/whippet type and she was ace. Admittedly, too slow for a straight line rabbit and I never tried her lamping. In think the extra leg and agility makes them much more efficient ratters.
-
Are these likely to be capable lamping dogs or just bushers? I know it depends how they throw, and this is the bushing section.

I walk many miles of countryside in work and have come across some right spots. I hinted and they weren't against it, but the rabbits were there because no one got the chance. Also guilty of 'pigeon wanking' as my work colleagues called it. 30 acres of wheat not harvested last winter, with around 10,000 woddies coming in.
-
The lad seems genuine and the sire is a decent worker. I know she'll be quick enough to catch a rabbit.the rest is up to me.
-
I'm wanting to make sure I get this dog right. So I sm going to aim to keep it away from everything I can till next season. But knowing how impatient I am.....
-
Thats the one I'm having one off. I've got a deposit on a bitch out of the litter.
-
I have mate. Pickong it up in spetember. Had a few jars last night and began to wonder if anyone else hadone.
-
Pretty much all I'll be doing, along with a bit of bushing. I could have got a pure whippet, but to get them from the right places it comes down to cost.
-
I have commited to a pup after a lot of research. The pro's and cons no longer matter but I know what i went to achieve with it. Does anyone have any dogs of of the same breeding and some pictures?
