  1. No definitive proof mate, only what i have witnessed in the litters i have bred myself over the years, I kept all of the pups until they were around twelve weeks old before i made a decision on the one i was going to keep. In this time i can honestly say i saw more of the bitches traits in the pups than the dog used, That's not to say that any old dog would do though Lol.
  2. Once whilst round a mates house, we would only be around 10yrs old, we had made a spear with a brush handle and an old knife, a couple of doors down were another couple of lads who we went to school with. We somehow ended up chucking this spear at each other over the two gardens, Eventually the inevitable happened and it landed in the thigh of one of the other lads. Another time we were down the canal, i had just got one of those new kind of red dot scopes and put it on my airsporter. i decided to fire at a clump of muck on the far bank to see where i needed to adjust it. About 10yrds aw
  3. How siblings perform in the field is a mixture of how the mix in the litter throws and the ability of the owner to train and put the right amount of stuff in front of the pup. A dog taken out once a week will never be as good as a dog worked 7 days a week. Another thing to consider is, in my opinion again, the bitch`s breeding will influence the litter more than the sire.
  4. I have an old Dianna 25 that i was given for my 12th birthday here, A few years ago i decided to renovate it as it was well rusty, Ended up stripping it and having it powder coated, well happy with how it turned out.
  5. He is very dedicated to the cause and the dog world would be a worse place without his books
  6. Depends mate, That 1/8th can through stronger in one pup more than the others.
  7. I have little knowledge on the non ped whippets used to race other than those at the local flapping track when i was young and most of them contained greyhound to some percentage or other, which to me appeared to be a bit of a con really, but as i grew older i understood that the need to win and be better than the next man was the reason, Joking aside i do have a soft spot for a well bred whippet and if i was looking for another dog then that's the route i would go down. I have seen a couple of bitches that came out of litters that had a percentage of whippet in them that have been unbelievabl
  8. Like any cross it will be a lottery as far as the pups go, some will through one way and some will through another, Obviously the more whippet you add the more the litter will through towards that but that would be defeating the object of the out cross in the first place, Only my opinion.
  9. His nose gets in the way of the pen quite often though
  10. The thing your missing is, whippets were never bred to run any distance but to be as fast as possible from a standing start. I have seen a pedigree whippet leave very fast dogs standing when chasing bolted rabbits across pasture land, over short distances. but as you say they would never win over a longer distance. I believe its called "Horses for Courses"
  11. She was bigger than that mate, I will have a look for them photos tomorrow, Biggest whippets i seen were Barrow whippets.
  12. Looks like the start of Terminator
  13. Its greed by the breweries and local councils mate, Landlord's nowadays are just Cannon fodder, Most will go bust within a couple of years. around here in the town centres most pubs are being converted into flats or are derelict after a fire in the roof. . Lol
  14. Know your asking Lol. 20/21 maybe, i have some old pictures somewhere. i will have a look tomorrow for them.
  15. The crazy thing is before smoking in pubs was banned most pubs had a Smoke room. It was only the breweries in there search for more profit that forced landlords into the food trade and thus ending the smoke room.
  16. The one i had left every other dog standing when a rabbit bolted and this was proven multiple times and that included against non ped whippets

I have got one of them Take Down Bows, After hours of practice, i have concluded that i am far more accurate chucking the bow at the target than i will ever be by shooting arrows at it. The problem with bow hunting is its all about accuracy and i aint got it.
  18. You forgot the Plummer Lol
  19. The problem/problems has already been alluded to on several posts, 1. People are breeding dogs for money rather than their abilities and traits, Dogs are being bred and sold into the pet market , That are totally unsuitable for that market. 2. No responsibility is being taken by the breeder or the owner when things go badly wrong. 3. People acquiring dogs with no idea what they are capable of, Most owners would not be able to control a Jack Russel if it lost its shit never mind something the size of these things. I once acquired a 3/8 5/8 bull cross bitch, She was a very p
  20. Mine are all covered in it and its sand coloured! is it because i am Racist?. Lol.
  21. Laguna was the kennel club prefix of a coursing kennel. A dog called Sooty Sam was given to an individual who then went on to produce a line himself but still sort of using the Laguna prefix. I believe that line is still going, The last time i looked into it the Laguna line was now being bred Cornwall way producing show Whippets. But that was a good while ago now. I had a bitch out of Sooty Sam to a Dam called Silk Cut Lady. late 80`s early 90`s, She was a cracking rabbiting dog. Sadly she developed spine problems aged around 7, so i retired her to my brother as a pet, By that that time she lo
  22. I am not say another word, Other than Laguna
  23. This time of year Blue/Green algae blooms are common. As these are surface blooms the wind will take them into the wind side banks, This stuff is poisonous to both dogs and humans. Symptoms start with vomiting and the shits,
  24. I used my lurchers for everything, lamping, ferreting, working very dense cover, rough shooting, pigeon shooting, beating, duck flighting even picking up on shoots and yes i did expect them to retrieve to hand and be easy to handle in any situation. They didn't need to be FTCh level but i did expect them to be able to do the job. But its horses for courses as they say.
