Another tip, use 2 screens, that way you can watch the tutorials on one and do it in real-time in PS on the other

youtube is full of PS tutorials PHLEARN are good, theres hundreds of ways of doing the same things in PS, i once spent an hour watching a tutorial on how to do something, then the next night watched another that showed you how to do the same in 5 minutes you really do need to understand about layers and layermasks before you can begin to get to grips with it.

If your going to use PS for more advanced stuff, then invest in a Graphics pad, once you get the hang of it, the mouse will become redundant

agree and you can set your own preferences to speed up your editing, i use lightroom 5 then flag any i want to export into ps cs6, you can do the same in ps but its a bit like using a steam roller to make pastry
