One of the hobs (6 months) can't stop hissing. He does it when he's in his hutch playing with the others and when he's brought into the house but doesn't appear to be aggressive when he hisses. This one doesn't work just kept as a pet just wondering why he might be doing it. could it be frustration/not enough stimulation? any advice is great cheers

Damn lucky you lol Enough pipe there for an army of stinkers

I do tend to experiment with different products sometimes to the dismay of my wallet lol but I have been looking for ferretrail tubes for ages but only seem to find US websites. want to get some from UK without horrendous delivery charges where did you get yours mate?
-
Joe where did you buy that colourful pipe? really want some of that

Went passed a building site other evening and saw for the first time some new drainage pipes within reach. Tempted as I was, I was doing something at the time but had I not been, I would have come home with metres and metres of the stuff I plan on returning though. I'll try and upload a photo later

Mine respond purely to their separate names. think its to do with being conditioned from 7 weeks. My jill on the other hand responds to my voice because I only just bought her 2 months ago and she's about 5 years old.

Beautiful dog mate, what mix is he?
-
Introduce them slowly mate. when I first took my hobs out I let them explore the outdoors, warrens, have a sniff about without expecting anything. but to start them working I waited till they were 6 months though they took to it really easily I guess cos they were given time to become accustomed.
-
ive never once thought theyd respond to names I might start trying that or are you winding me up see I had plenty of ferrets but this is the first time any have come No joke mate! I've had many ferrets that come when I make squeaky noises but as I've had my current ferrets from 7/8 weeks old, I named them and got them used to being called their names from a young age. Just like you would give names to dogs and cats, ferrets are no different and do respond.
-
Yeah, all my ferrets respond to their names same thing what your doing isn't it? lol

Thought shes gone?....Which one?Both?.... Nottzhunter on the albino... Colin on the poley? ... Colin's having a sandy that I was going to keep back for myself Beautiful sandy jill Gaz! wouldn't mind her myself lol

He's..sooo...long.. great that you've gained a nice hobblet mate Some ferrets are survivors lucky he didn't come to any harm upon being abandoned. unscrupulous b***h, I don't agree with letting domestic animals loose like that. but he's found a nice home now

Out of interest will the castrated Hobs live happily together year round? From a ease of keeping point of view they have gotta be the easiest to keep. No seasons, no smell (well less smell) and in theory no fighting? Yes, they really do! people i know keep them as family pets always have them neutered and they tend to be cuddled together all the time smell is different and not offensive like a normal hob very tolerable in the home. but there are negatives with neutering with regards to health the biggest problem being adrenal disease whether done earlier or later in life and then the

Not everybody has friends with ferrets.... Or is willing to pay daft prices on gumtree.... Its irrelevant anyway... Not true that folk on Gumtree are just out to fleece you, its just a way of selling your stock AND they are sometimes given away free on these sites. Practically every ferret bought from a market has some kind of behavioural or other problem which I've witnessed and had to be passed onto a rescue or the like. if you know otherwise, then please be civil with replies and that goes for everyone lol

Ive had silver looses guards and go to BEWSame here but not the other way round and become darker. My jill was white as snow at 7 weeks.... Hence why my son called her 'snowy' .... At 7 months now... shes darker and more of a silver.... Do you have a photo of her? :-)

All my workers have been hobs never used jills even though mates swear by them more built for the job etc. Some have better experiences with hobs some with jills. I think it all depends on the ferret rather than gender when it comes to working ability. also my hobs never kill! I have 4 at the moment. my past ones have couple of times though.

Mine is weld mesh and stapled, highly recommend

Funny thing is, scientists have shown that the mink never has had any real long term effect on the water vole population. It's human destruction of habitat that has reduced the water voles numbers. It has been shown that areas void of mink have just as many water voles as in areas with high numbers of mink. Like almost all rodents, water voles are very prolific and have no trouble keeping up with the pressure placed on them by predators. Habitat is what determines if they can survive in an area, not the predators in it. This fact has been proven time an time again my multiple studies done by

You think that relates to colour? .... And not just the genetics from the parents?.... Sure...in the whole world... somebody has had a poley thats done that...and a sandy...and a BEW... Sounds as if there's loads of mixed opinions Wouldn't have brought up the topic if i didn't think there was a good amount of truth to it. i've been told and have read this about silvers somewhere but it was amongst other info about ferrets ive just never stopped to really think about it. few mates i have don't keep silvers because apparently they've got nothing but grief off them in more ways than

Do we not have any European mink over here?
-
That only really works with kits! Very hard to push finger further into mouth when the bugger is already latched on if you are going to try that do it with wielding gloves.

Why do you buy a ferret from a market??
