  1. Lovely job, great hutch but too small for my liking. I like my ferret hutches big...
  2. This not a dark ferret, this genuine article.....
  3. Rake, do you have any eu polecats or the like??
  4. This is more suitable mate http://www.amazon.co.uk/Land-Drainage-Pipe-Diameter-Metre/dp/B008IR1KS8/ref=sr_1_2?s=outdoors&ie=UTF8&qid=1378673965&sr=1-2&keywords=drainage+pipe
  5. if someone can tame a mink, it wouldnt put it past me, i didnt think a mink could be tamed and trained to that standard! we would of all laughed at the guy and took the piss , if he hadnt of put the pics up to proov it. a pine martin x ferret would be good on the squiirel control if it could be done! whered you get that from though Don't think they can interbreed..
  6. A ferret x martin...now there's something id like to see.
  7. What about the guy that trained his mink in the earlier thread?? Don't tell me you don't find that impressive?
  8. I didn't start it mate. I never start topics like this for that very reason Like I said, its nice to own something different for the hell of it.
  9. Nothing's wrong with a ferret. I have plenty of them. I love them. What's this boring repetitive question got to do with people keeping eu's?
  10. If you look up research into the wild eu polecat done on the continent, it clearly details that there is 2 distinct colour variations in them. The first is a meadow/hedgerow hunter that is lighter in colour due to the habitat it hunts/lives in, the second is much darker and lives/hunt in forest/woodland, so basically their coats suit where they live to blend in with the surroundings, now when anyone claims they have trapped/caught a wild polecat why are they always the darker ones they managed to catch? I dont recall anyone showing a light coloured eu polecat they have caught? perhaps these ma
  11. It ain't : / [BANNED TEXT] makes you so sure?
  12. Percentage of eu not as high as mine Do you think she's a pure eu?
  13. True there are some folks that falsely claim to have pure eu's when they are just ferrets in order to fleece people but there will also be some who have trapped and bred em. It aint an extinct species mate! Can you explain how these animals like the ones uploaded on this thread both have the eu look to them? i'd say there are breeders who sell them as pure when they are really hybrids but you can usually tell by observing the animal's behaviour too whether they have eu in them or not. The ones sold in this country are probably at most under 70% as there is a lot of ferret in the line BUT they
  14. What you got against people keeping eu poleys, mate?? And what evidence have you got to support the fact they are not pure or hybrid?
  15. I forgot to do that one, I was thinking earlier about whether I had or not A jill is in season when her vulva (lady area) is swollen and enlarged, they swell to the size of like a garden pea ATB Dan Its more like a large walnut from what I've seen. A garden pea is very small, infact my jill's vulva is more pea-size now
  16. i'd agree there's something wilder about my eu compared to my ferrets of the same age, he is also more highly strung, very alert. But I don't work him just keep him as a pet. My hob above is also stronger for his age than my adult ferrets and has a little more muscle mass. just things I've noticed with my keen eye lol
  17. I agree with you mate my eu hob is 5 months almost and his undercoat coat is getting pretty light as he gets older. he is also very tame and sociable dunno if this is because he isn't 100% polecat or not but wouldn't trust anybody on here to make that determination Seems that every time the eu subject comes up, civilized folk turn into barbarians People who keep eu's keep them as pets as something different doesn't mean they are a threat to the good old working ferret. Uploaded is a pic of him younger and you can see how dark he is, the other is around now.
  18. Just echoing what has been said, a vasectomized hob is your best bet for taking jills out of season and that's what I'll be doing with my hob kits if I don't want my new jill to have babies next spring Neutering/spaying carries risks of adrenal and other related diseases regardless of age of op and your left with a generally unhealthier ferret i.e. put on weight/slower metabolism. Jab doesn't do a good job like vas hob. If I were you, I'd do a good amount of research before deciding what's best for your ferrets. very important to be in the know
  19. Yeah that's what I said but you don't expect the kits your buying to have been doctored do you? but they came with a pedigree lol so that should have been a red flag that someone's either trying it on or is actually a fancy ferret breeder . They are normal ferrets though the guy bred angoras too This was only found out when he read the aftercare. I can understand why fancy angoras would be doctored though not at 4 weeks.
  20. The price of kits makes me giddy, they cost £55 just normal run of mill ferrets. am not saying anything as him and I already had a discussion about that. He literally has the certification saying they were done at 4 weeks and other 'papers'. apparently nobody else in his area had kits but the ones he has seem bright and healthy. What gets me is the early sterilizing as I've read it can lead to serious complications somethings definitely wrong here cos we're not in the US
  21. What the f**k do they think they do to animals in an abattoir?? Pamper them for their trouble then put them down by euthanasia? I have gotten into debates with dissonant antis and vegis before who really stand by this argument and honestly, there is no arguing with them. you won't win lol
  22. Saw a mate this evening who has just acquired some kits around 14 weeks, 2 hobs 2 jills, who he is planning to breed at some point. lovely kits good as gold etc but he has just found out that 1 hob and jill had been neutered at 4 weeks Is this normal? anyone come across kits like this? As the kits came from different places the other 2 are ok. The guy he got the kits from is apparently a breeder and won't refund him. He's pissed off and rightly so. Never heard of kits being neutered at such a young age here and wondering what kind of vet would agree to do it.
  23. Bitter apple spray is great i took a couple of jills a couple of years back and they were mad the chap i bought them off said just smack them with the food bowl which is disgusting , but i persisted with them and used bitter apple spray and they turned out great , good luck. Some folks are right pr*cks. Yeah spray is alright but best remedy is handling
  24. Congrats on your first post lol Hope you find somebody who can help.
