Yes you would need to separate them from February till September if you don't want kits cos during those months they'll be ready for nookie I haven't had kits but most folk i know who have had kits say they take the hob out when the jill is pregnant and let her get on with it till they should start being handled at 3 weeks but handling ages vary. Do you have homes ready for them? cos you could potentially have up to 12+ kits so need to think hard about why you need to breed.

Nice video mate Never bolted a fox before that would be an experience

Use Indorex on the hutches and in the house. 10 quid of amazon cheaper than in vets and very strong stuff. if you have an infestation then all the animals and home hutches have to be done at once. big job

Been ferreting for a while now and never encountered a mink in this country but my brother who lives abroad, sees European mink a lot on his trips out. He owns European polecats too (pure ones that come from the continent not the UK) but they don't mix with the ferrets as he's had some nasty incidents I have an eu probably hybrid who's as soft as shite lol and he's kept with the other ferrets.

100% agree.. Thats how i trained all mine and never had any bites from them ever...They soon learn very quikley biting fingers brings unpleasentnes... I can vouch for that technique Especially if the fingers hit the back of their throat

Dunno Bob Martin seems to have terrible reviews relating to cat sickness and deaths. in some dogs too

Wouldn't worry at all then mate just handle and play with them as much as time allows.

Beapher spot-on for small animals (rodents and ferrets on the pack). Works fantastically, never let me down and inexpensive £4 for 3 pipettes

Ferret kits will nip but depends how hard the nips are. Are they proper bites?? blood?

Wow! did you see the cat/mink encounter happen? must have been a weak little feral cat It looked pretty average to me. Not too big, not too small. Sure put up a fight! At first the cat was looking at the mink like "ooo what do we have here? A nice overgrown mouse?" My mink was locked in her cage and going crazy running back and forth, wanting to get at the cat. I laughed and said, "So you think you can handle her do you? Well go ahead and try but don't come crying to me when she kicks your butt." I let the mink have at her, and she ran straight up to the cat who showed no fear un

If it belongs to someone Gaz, its only right to give him back I lost a ferret once (some c**t opened the hutch as a prank) and it was heartbreaking would have done anything to get him back but never saw him again. You don't know the situation the ferret came from so I suggest taking him in to vets as a lost ferret and if he isn't chipped, you can keep him. you could try RSPCA but you may have to go through the adoption process if he isn't chipped and you wanted to keep him

I doubt you need to worry about feral cats. They are complete cowards. It takes a special cat to hunt full grown rats or squirrels, let alone a ferret. If your ferret isn't tough enough to fight off a wussy cat then you didn't have a ferret worth keeping anyway! LOL Last winter one of my tiny little 700 gram female mink killed a full grown feral cat, so no need to worry about cats. I think your ferret would kill a cat long before a cat would kill him, but of course I'm far from a ferret expert as I've only had a couple, and now I work with mink, not ferrets. I have a mink that I've l

He definitely sounds like a mature ferret if he has yellow teeth. that's one way of ageing them too if you know a vet experienced with ferrets they may be able to age him.
-
You'd be surprised how far missing ferrets can travel dayle. he may have been stolen and transported across country.

True but when out of season there should be a small visible sack if you look closely. My hobs are 4 and 5 months old and they have tiny but visible ball sacks. My other hobs (still in season) have small ball sacks during the winter.

Dont think thats correct mate... all 3 of mine were castrated and smaller than your average hob.... Given the chance mate, neutered cats/dogs/ferrets will eat and eat and eat, hence the reason most are fat and shapeless that's not to say they won't stay in shape so long as they are not allowed to binge or given too many dinner leftovers etc. especially if the animal works they are likely to stay fit. really i was using pets as an example. I am not saying all neutered ferrets will be fat but they will have a much higher fat to muscle ratio. this has nothing to do with how large they g

Neutered hobs are much bigger than entire ones because they usually eat a lot more, have more fat than muscle.
-
Yeah Gaz, he's definitely a castrated/neutered hob. plenty of folks i know have them as pets and workers. their smell is different, kind of 'ink-like' is only wway i can descibe it lol strong but not unpleasant like an entire hob smell. Testicles can descend from the ages of 7-13 months in my experience depending on other factors such as when they were born, weather, light etc. he should still have a small pair at this time of year so your right. Good that you've taken him in, hope he finds a nice home

Awww sorry to hear that mate. How old was she? did you take her to vets for diagnosis?

Did you have padlocks on, mate?

Is it true that silver ferrets make bad workers? Tell me if its all b*llocks but I have heard it floating around that they aren't the most trainable either and some are quite aggressive compared to other colours. I ask because I have been offered a silver jill for the season but haven't met her yet. like I said if its nonsense let me know lol
