  1. All from mink farms? Quite surprising, since ferrets cost up to $300 over there!
  2. Careful, mate, this thread may find itself locked for you daring to mention the 'e' word lol
  3. My ferrets have gotten picked up in different ways since they were 7 weeks old. I have never picked them up by scruff unless it was necessary but they accept being picked up in any way. I don't have a problem with nipping and never have but shouldn't think it makes a difference with a bitey ferret. Hard to make an insecure biter forget his natural bite impulses by picking him up in a certain way would have thought.
  4. DOC's are not eggs and have flesh, bone and other goodies in them. Feeding both is fine in same week, I and many others do it no problems yet They also get woodies, rabbit or supermarket meat depending on my mood
  5. I had 3 hobs... all castrated... had great days out with them... some great sport... but decided if had enough of digging whilst the dogs stood watching..... Gave 2 hobs to a neighbour where i can keep an eye on them... kept one hob and got 2 jills.... Until that hob got killed out ferreting... then took the opportunity to get a hob and get him the snip... is the only reason people don't keep hobs because you have to dig to them? otherwise they seem easier to keep as they don't come into heat and are friendlier ?? i don't keep ferrets clearly but i was thinking about getting int
  6. 3 hobs 1 pet hob 2 jills (1 adopted adult and an 11 week old)
  7. Beautiful photos mate and nice to see how she develops. Similar to the life-stage photos I take of my lot always nice to look back on the memories
  8. All sandy's I've had have been touch and go and have been told that silvers can be extroverted and bit erratic. But all my best hobs have been polecat coloured. Its definitely down to individual differences. looking at the parents especially the hob's personality will give you an idea of how they'll turn out.
  9. I know someone who has had this happen to them this weekend, hob did 2 of his jills. his hob has turned quite aggressive recently though. also a close mate had a hob that killed his best worker. can't say what causes it.
  10. Aye. I've only ever heard a ferret make 3 noises. Hissing, squeaking (not like a mouse, but I'm not sure how to describe it), and what I would call "chuntering". Some more experienced guys and those who have kept far more generations of ferrets may offer more. I've heard mine hiss when they found a rat, and they chunter when they are excited or know they're getting fed occasionally. Guess different ferrets make different noises? Some of mine hiss when they are eating, carrying the food or squabbling over meat. Mine chunter as well when they get excited and are playing together.Lol what's chun
  11. If it helps some of my hobs can cope well with heat and are active and others just slump about out of breath. maybe depends on individual ferret. but none have had any problems with boxes. with yours it may be a mixture of boredom or feeling unsettled while travelling in the box. having said that, to keep them occupied whilst in the box I stick some rubber balls in there they love them lol That box looks normal size not small mine are the same size pretty much. although I've made a few with my own design so use those too
  12. Ferrets do pant. One of my hobs does it when its only a little warm and when its hot, he's worse than a dog for panting. Doesn't sound like your kit was panting though mate. by boxes all have good ventilation but don't think a box would get that hot.
  13. Is that room solely for the ferrets? like a playroom?
  14. What a bright animal, love it when she brings it back to carrier good job with her mate
  15. I've put up a link on page 2 The link has some 60mm pipe, is that big enough for fat hob??
  16. Gonna get me some of this pipe! can you recommend any sites where i can buy?? tried taking one from building site this afternoon which i thought was unattended and got shouted at by a worker!
  17. Is it a cat carrier?? I always use these for ferrets for several reasons and they never get out. my jill enjoys biting the metal door but that's it. she can't get out by any means. Put up a photo of cage
  18. This hob doesn't work but I have given him lots of toys/pipes to keep him entertained. as he's a pet, do you think he needs more attention? maybe he's just a high maintenance ferret lol
  19. Oh I didn't know that was called chuntering
