Yeah co-incidentally, I watched the same vid about 2 weeks ago. Look very very good if the video is anything to go by. Only issue with a pro shooter is you never about sponsorship.

That's a big barrel for a .17. I think you misunderstood when he said mouse: Mind you our mice are tough up North. Just look at those antlers! Ask me one day and I'll show you a picture of our cats!

Black gold were always supposed to be quite a good clay load that worked for game because of their hard shot and very high speeds. Quite a punchy cartridge, I never used anything else myself when I discovered them. That said, don't know if they're in .410. As an aside, I've heard ti said the 20g hush is quite a quiet gun and not that dissimilar to a .410 hush, although I can't say I've ever fired either.

Think you already did. A double entry trap sounds pretty pun riddled to me, especially in the Countryside, and even more so if you're out with a canine friend....

That and some forces are still anti. My force used to only grant rf at 1st grant. You couldn't hope for CF until the 2nd or 3rd renewal and open for about 10 yrs! Then there was an admin related incident that led to some staff being renewed and following that, policy changed and became more liberal. Some in the same area I know got CF at 1st grant and open, albeit with a mentoring condition. It is worth saying here the reason for the open part was because it was for purchased deer stalking so impossible to tie to land. The mentoring part does state though they can only shoot with a quali

This is the trouble and one of the issues the current firearms review is looking at. Currently the law is a lottery because each force makes it's own rules up and then hides behind the fact the Home Office rules are just guidelines and not legally binding. You have some forces using their own forms, requiring their own additional requirements. Some grant CF at 1st grant. Some only RF. Some will grant open, some only closed. Some will grant if GP refuses to provide a med, other won't. It's just a joke. My region used to be really restrictive and grant almost nothing but for a number of years no

You'll get an open ticket at 1st grant if you're buying paid stalking, especially in Scotland because paid stalking takes place over many pieces of land and your permission to be there is only fleeting for the duration of your stalk making a closed ticket impossible. As there are hundreds of stalks, it's impossible to tie you to a specific piece of land. In Scotland, of course, land isn't approved. You may however, get a mentor condition with an open cert at 1st grant requiring you to shoot with someone experienced or a stalking guide, just to ensure you're not doing anything you shouldn't be

Fear the gulls more: https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/9587122/seagull-victim-says-only-a-matter-time-they-kill/ You could shoot them and then they were put on the endangered list, most probably because over fishing is making it hard for them to find food in the seas, and picking in towns are easy. The answer here is two fold, allow shooting in urban areas to control them, and bring in more marine reserves in the sea to ensure there's more fish for those living on the coast to maintain them and increase their numbers where they should be. It's ridiculous to have a ban, even with falling

I've got teeth like bugs bunny. Tooth picks don't really fit. ?

Didn't know that. Another very restrictive and pointless law provided it's non fac power was certified following re-conversion. I must also correct myself earlier on .17wsm. It isn't discontinued. I thought it maybe as this morning I couldn't find it on Savage's website (maybe being updated?). However, a search tonight shows 5 versions of the .17 wsm B-Mag now, so an expansion! BTW, 3 out of the 5 are laminated wood stocks so it should be possible for a registered firearm and Savage Arms dealer to order a wood one if there aren't any in this country. The models are here and the wood

Never heard of splash with an HMR before. That said, it can potentially happen with any calibre. Personally, I'd prefer to be using a bit more weight and punch for fox even though 60yds is within the max range of .22LR. The Hornets (.17, .22) would make sense here if that's your typical range or WMR. Ever thought of FAC Air for long range rabbits? That's another possibility and as you already have an FAC and air rifle, depending on the type, it might just be a valve or spring swop. You can always keep the old one and have it switched back before a sale. Can't see .17 WSM on Savage's

Apparently the police are going to interview your neighbours about your suitability, fine if you get on with them or don't have antis next door. Medical info's going to be much tougher and compulsory charged without limits etc. Easiest to read here: https://basc.org.uk/firearmsconsultation/ Personally, I'm all for rules that all forces have to adhere to. Beyond that though, everything else is a joke.

Hope the missus doesn't want her chopping board.

Well done stav. On the subject of the future of shooting, be aware of the proposed changes to licensing - the BASC are asking for people to respond. Head over to their website.

No reason not to take paper at long ranges. If considering game, limit it to birds.

Head shoot them! Anything with hydrostatic shocking potential is no good for rabbits in the body if you want them for the table. A .17 HMR will make a real mess of a rabbit. As for .17wsm, the issue is low availability of rifles. One gun dealer's site I looked at had the ammo listed at £69 for 50. Dauntsey Guns though, has them in now at £17.95 for 50 which is only around £1 more than the price of .17 HMR. Only drawback is it's the 20gr ammo, and the tests above suggest the 25gr is much harder hitting. Either way, I think the calibre still has potential, but I'd wait to see if it ta

Tikka = Berretta group so you won't go far wrong. Love that T3 light.

Maybe you're missing something. .17 Hornet is considered to be on a par with, if not better than .22 Hornet. Flies flatter and you wouldn't want to mess with .25 gr. Hmr and WSM paste their only .22 rimfire equivalent for power and terminal damage. Here's a little vid on the .17 mouse killer. Personally, I wouldn't want to be that piece of steel at 100yds hit with the 25gr Hornet or the WSM. Way to ruin a good 1/4 thick steel target and the accuracy of the 2nd Hornet shot!

Birmingham International City of Culture David. I'm all for mixed race - .17, .204, 22lr, .223, .22-250, .243. All should be made welcome.
-
Everyone has a preference but there's little difference between a .17 and a .22 Hornet other than the .17 flies flatter and further. There's not many mice that get back up and complain they only got shot by a .17. As for .17 hmr, past case issues aside, it's far more explosive and delivers more energy than .22lr or .22 WMR and has more range, 22 is quieter. It's swings and roundabouts. However, to portray .17's as inferior is wrong. They are no more inferior than Hmr to Lr in rim, or .204 to .22 cf variants in CF, and now those splash issues are solved, especially with a slightly higher bulle

You're still shooting mice. They're just in a fox outer.
-
I think it just depends on how much your prepared to spend on ammo and whether you intend to just control or eat your prey. .17hmr had a lot of ammo issues but these appears resolved (very mysterious anyway given the case was just a necked .22 WMR case and the parent had no issues). So .17hmr has to be a candidate because of the extended range over the .22's and cheap ammo (@£17 per 100). If your ammo costs are less vital, the Hornet extends that out to 200+yds for fox but at an ammo cost similar to most larger centre fires (£22 for 25). If you're going further, then .204 Ruger

Vicious buggers. I saw one that attacked a car this afternoon. Fortunately, it bounced under the wheel before it could do any harm.
