Think I watched the same clip I think the reason they do it is because of the terrain as obviously they couldnt dig the ferret out if it did kill.

I know exactly what you mean I had a brief stint at hoyland before leaving to play for dodworth. In my opinion all the decent youngsters that have passed through hoyland in the last few years have been pinched by shef eagles and never gone back leaving them with less and less players each year.

Can anybody recommend a mincer that I can put rabbit through with bones? Just got my 2 lurchers and terrier on the barf diet and im very pleased with the results however my meat supplier has just put his prices up from 50p to 70p a pound. Im sick of eating rabbit and id like to mince and freeze the rabbits to subsidise the cost of meat and if possible catch enough to keep them fed all the time and just add im some fatty offcuts from other meat. As of yet I havnt come across any second hand and I dont want to spend that much IF it can be helped.

Never Seen Anything As Daft.
Poacherspocket replied to Poacherspocket's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
Iv had quite a few ferrets and the best are what I have now and there off a young lass about my age (21) ish she might be younger. Iv had 3 for myself and 2 I got for a lad an hours drive away from me and they were all flesh fed nicely sized working animals. From the 1st time they made contact on a live rabbit they were amazing. I can get people to vouch for that and the best bit was they cost me a tenner each which considering the diet they had and the amount of effort put into rearing them id say was well worth it because 2 of them from being kits would settle in the pocket of my jacket rat -

A few years back I used to do a bit of dry stone walling for a mate because he used to get called to the local deer farm on a regular basis due to animal activists and the rest of the tree huggers were ramming the walls down and cutting fences so the deer could escape. So beware of the idiits out there atb

How Long Before The Dogs Ready To Work
Poacherspocket replied to hily's topic in Gundogs & Retrievers
If I was after a pure ferreting dog a reverse bred collie greyhound would be my number 1 choice there a few videos on youtube in the dales of a chap with one and it is perfect for it. Agreeably a gun dog could ferret but it wouldnt be ideal not everywher you can net so you do need the added speed. Recently I ferreted a large hedgerow and I worked and netted one side and my dog worked the other catching what bolted from the other side without nets on. I had to rely on my dog to retrieve to me laid on my stomach under the hedge row. I think in a nutshell an averagely trained lurcher can be fun a -
How Long Before The Dogs Ready To Work
Poacherspocket replied to hily's topic in Gundogs & Retrievers
Iv grown up with labs but recently got 2 lurchers alongside my dads lab. U agree lots of idiots with lurchers who just want to kill stuff but to be fair for the majority of people with running dogs they dont need to be all that trained if their lamping its just experience that the dogs need. If there recall is good and they dont hunt up youve cracked it. But lads with true ferreting dogs that take the sport seriously will tell you a ferreting dog isnt born over night just like many gundogs the dog must be steady, take hand signals, leave its quarry, hold, retrieve and most of all not become di -
As thick as that warden was I personally wouldnt want to put my life at danger every day like she does for next to nothing which she more than likely gets.

Very nice dogs in the picture. Are they the dogs you mentioned? Very similar to my 5/8 bred greyhound whippet collie kelpie dog. 30 years worth of good breeding is in them and now they almost always turn out very similar to the 2 dogs in that picture. Specialist rabbit dogs. Theres a litter planned very soon as well if I didnt have my other bitch id definitely be putting my name forward for another.
