  1. either a straight greyhound or a saluki x grey......best foxing lurcher i have seen was 3/8 saluki 5/8 grey....also seen some mental greyhounds foxhounds dont have any bull in them :11: and as badger states, coyote hunters dont use bull crosses, neither do kangaroo hunters in Oz (they also have a staghound type running dog-deerhound/greyhound=kangaroo hound)
  2. where can you get flourescent coats for ferrets? :11: i occasionally shoot over my ferrets, i have a few friends and relatives that shoot and they like to have a pop at bolting bunnies...i always use albino/white ferrets to aid in identification although i also state only shoot running rabbits...by the time they are running and you have raised and aimed they are well clear of the holes.....my last rule is shoot one of my team of ferrets and I SHOOT YOU no one has shot or even swung through on one of my ferts :11: i use my 3 shot semi, with either modified or improved cylinder choke,
  3. he might not have been an anti.....he might have enjoyed running rabbits with a dog or taking potshots with a shotgun :11: my little brother lived in donegal for a while and he ferreted, coursed, hunted hounds, lamped and shot....he became friends with a few garda :11: whilst he was there.....he lives back in god's country Yorkshire now
  4. could be difficult, but could also be possible,
  5. :11: i started a similar thread once on another forum.............it was emotional...... i prefer my traditional set longnet to pursenets, if i could only save one bag of nets it would be the longnet bag, it is indeed very fine sport
  6. ferreting at night :11: a bit like lamping during the day :11: i remember reading a brian braindead article where he used longnets and white ferrets, but i cant really see what benefit night time ferreting has over daytime
  7. very big, did you weigh it?
  8. nice pack, they all look in good health and well fed :11: was going to put pic of my two mutt's, cocker spaniel bitch and teckel x bitch, up but it wont let me saying the pic is too big
  9. allegedly, although black rabbits are a natural occurence , that theory was i beleive put forward by a certain Mr Plummer :11: so make of that what you will all wild rabbit populations have colour variations and occasional freak coloured rabbits, that is how we have the varieties of coloured rabbit we have, because early breeders bred the coloured freaks with other coloured rabbits and doubled up on the freak colour gene's millet that looks like an English Butterfly (a type of rabbit i used to breed) i would reckon that is an escapee that is at least part English Butterfly, i used to
  10. cracking, shame just the one pic, i would have liked to have seen more, the dogs that did the bushing? were it the lurchers or terriers/hounds, also interested in what shotgun etc.. but a hell of a bag :11: wouldn't mind carrying a gun for a team like that, plus i have a couple of dogs that could assist in the bushing/scenting/driving aspect
  11. is that a rabbit or a tortoiseshell cat :11: :11:
  12. this topic comes up quiet often :11: when i lived back in yorkshire quiet a few black ones (especially from one wood on a particular farm) down south now had a few gingers and two blue one's also had them with white blazes/patches , the butcher once accused me of stealing them from hutches :11: he still bought them mind heres one of the blueish rabbits
  13. cracking little picture story, felt like i was there, keep up the good work and keep posting like that
  14. it was a public road, he was in my half of the road, he was writing at the wheel, and his skid marks are 3 times longer than mine :11: a solicitor has already been appointed
  15. Went ferreting today with a lad from work we were shooting over the ferrets, went to the first farm shot two rabbits missed a few had a laugh and ate our lunch at the car, then decided to drive to another farm and to try there. on the way down a country lane and a fecking delivery van comes round a sharp bend on the wrong side of the road (well in the centre at least), the driver was writing on a piece of paper whilst driving, he also appeared to be driving faster than me, suffice to say there was not enough room for both of us, i tried to avoid him but had no where to go he locked
  16. i wish i had the time and space to have a pack like tommy's, i like reading your posts and seeing the pics, obviously in the UK the pack would have to be a rabbit pack :11:
  17. I suppose you have had to get used to it :11: :11: Thats what it would be called the most, rather than it's name anyway! i thought that was my name until i got to school, as it was what my mam called me all the time
  18. There are a lot of variables in play here, neighbouring land being the biggest i have one farm that i have permission on that is surrounded by land i dont have permission on, and which holds loads of rabbits :11: i can ferret the easy warrens on my permission and they are filled back up by the over abundance from next door :11: within a week or two, however the other 4 farms i can ferret all adjoin each other and as i keep the neighbouring land under control once they are done that season there is not a lot of point going back that winter, as it takes a least all summer before
  19. i agree with the statement about springers entering all cover but cockers using there brains and nose, mine will only enter cover if she gets a scent, she is not as hard a hunting dog as i have seen and can infuriate me a bit, she is also a non-retriever (blame my training) however as a beater's dog i would say she is nearly perfect, you dont want a dog putting its head down, and hunting on too far (a fault i have seen loads on beating lines) you dont need a beaters dog to retrieve thats a peg dog or a picker ups dog job, i wouldn't say they are not a beginners dog, they just have a differ
  20. I use my teckel x border terrier when roughshooting , she will enter any cover if there is game in there and is a really useful gundog actually better than my spaniel, the spaniel though is better when ferreting than the teckel x :11: the teckel x is getting really good at putting rabbits out, she is learning to hunt within shot range and will quater in a fashion as well my brother used to use a border x JRT as a beating dog on a shoot and before that he used a mongrel terrier when he helped a keeper out, both these dogs put FTCH bred ESS and Labs to shame, the best was the little mon

there is a vacancy now for someone in OZ to leap on croc's, is that an audition Jordan :11:

  23. :11: :11: we could all create our own breed of dog, i fancy a purpose bred Compo rabbit hound, plummer did it with terriers and there are enough of them about now and you are very right some folk will beleive anything and buy anything that they think is rare or unusual, there is a saying where i come from "Common sense aint that Common" :11:
