  1. ..fecking pricks the pair of you! thing is mike,FK couldn't find his prick with written directions , what confusion leads twix the FK brothers has led to this animal being let go? pray tell young FK?
  2. my hutch, i also have a couple of sigle hutches at the side it has recently had padlocks/asp and staples attached to each set of doors keep the kids from letting them out
  3. ovt I dont particularly hunt for squirrels but when i come accross them i enjoy adding them to the bag, my teckel cross and my spaniel also enjoy making sure they are dead when i have given them 32gm of number 6's :11: (the squirrels get the charge of shot not the dogs ) and both the dogs have taken to treeing squirrels similar to your pic compo
  4. nice garden shooting, saturday and i shot a woodie at a barbeque at my brother in laws with his air arms s410, i had it plucked and the breasts on the bbq before it was cold i weren't drinking cider though, red wine and stella (not at the same time though  )
  5. i have a few bags of rocking horse manure for sale, with every third bag i throw in a genuine greyhound ferret free of charge six bags and you could have a breeding pair, each bag of manure is for sale £9 and i only accept a £9 note
  6. SOME GOOD ADVISE ON HERE its great aint it you ask 20 ferreters the same question and get 20 different answers i would say get more than one, a pair is a minimum, if your hob has been vasectomised get two jills that is a brilliant little set up the jills do most of the work and the hob brings them out of season, plus sometimes you may want a hob for a particular job or just need a third ferret. i reckon all ferrets will work, when myxi hit the UK the number of working ferrets dropped and then as the numbers have crept back up so has the number of working ferrets, not all of thes
  7. Them muntys put up some fight ! allmost killed my mates dog an she is a big girl ! You have good numbers in your part of the world i imagine ? you would have to watch out for that happening alot the site crazy tight in cover . I have a plan, get more teckels then the munty would have been fecked they often do sit tight until the last minute and i beleive thats because most pet dogs would just walk on by with out realising what was there  whereas a dog/hound used to hunting by scent would locate it if i had 4 teckels (which i may have in time  ) things like tha
  8. found with the teckel cross, she has that good a nose she needed little encouragement, although she did learn to some extent from the spaniel, however she has now surpassed the spaniel and has flushed countless rabbits, a handful of foxes and several muntjac (she even had hold of one muntjac in bramble and got a cut on her neck from the ensuing fight the munty escaped ) I would say a hound or two can be as much fun as a small pack, but with only small numbers of hounds you wont make any (or very few) kills, where as a pack can and will account for game by themselves without a gun or
  9. my favourite thing to shoot yet i dont know why, but i love shooting them with my 12gauge when they are climbing up trees, and my dogs go mad for them as i am chasing them and they both pitch in to them when they hit the floor
  10. my favourite too, dont rot and dont tangle, can get a bit heavy when you are carrying 100, but so is hemp and hemp gets heavier when it is wet also 10oz is a lot cheaper KP&S i think they are about £15 for 10?
  11. I heard the rabbit with its guts hanging out, but with a Plastic decoy crow stood next to it really helps draw them in apparently, when they think someone else is getting a free meal not tried it myself this was advice to someone else on another forum

IT WOULD GET STUCK BETWEEN A BULLDOGS TEETH, my ferrets would eat one let alone your bully
  15. Mitch nets like you have sound ideal for criss crossing the larger warrens if you circle the whole warren with a larger longnet, the shorter ones then stop those rabbits that dont bolt for the open and merely hop from hole to hole Or alternative, i dont know if you have hedges where you are, but here in England i often ferret hedgerows and if a rabbit evades the pursenets on a hedge they will run along the hedge line rather than break for the open, smaller longnets/stop nets can then be set through or butt up to the hedge at 90 degree angles and are quiet effective that way If you
  16. historically in the British Isle's it was any month with an R in it, ferreting is mainly autumn and winter, i ferret from late august until early March, rabbits breed all year round but mostly in the height of summer, and as the undergrowth grows it makes ferreting hard work as well, plus your ferrets are either in season or have kits so most people pack up about now and start again after the crops are harvested around late august early september when the young rabbits are of a decent size until they start breeding again the next spring (march (ish)) however spring arrives in differe
  17. NIKEY i dont beleive any ferret would stay with a live rabbit that long either, as i said we dont know what goes on underground we are all just guessing, you got it right with "JUST OPINIONS", i reckon there were perhaps one or two dead bunnies UNDERGROUND as well as the 5 that bolted that day there were no rabbits left behind that day, i am sure of that My motto is though still wait, dont rush to dig happy hunting COMPO
  18. JUST TO CLARIFY, what i meant dont dig too soon, let the ferret have chance to bolt it as 99% of the time they will do, the awkward rabbits take longer as the ferret may have to get round it, climbing over it etc....you dont see what effort the ferret is putting in, but give it a bit of time dont go digging cos the ferret is in the same spot for 10minutes, patience pays dividends if you get a clean bolt with no digging by waiting, in my experience as soon as you start digging you have to dig until you get both the ferret and rabbit as the rabbit wont bolt now and the ferret wont
  19. well done on the new permission, explain to the farmer/landowner that you will be stopping ferreting now cos the ferrets are in season and the foliage will be growing up,(dont mention the rabbits breeding-as few farmers have any sympathy for conies) explain you will ferret in september, and try and keep them happy with a bit of shooting/longnetting/snaring/trapping/dogging over the summer, thus keeping your permission, learning the land and seeing where the populations of rabbits are till the frits and nets come back out

    polecats

WHY ON EARTH WOULD YOU WANT A WILD POLECAT (OR CROSS) it is like trying to put some zest into a lurcher by mating your greyhound to a wild wolf the ferrets in my garden do the job (or they wouldn't be in the garden) they are different colours but all have been domestic ferrets as far back as there ancestry can be traced, if anyone disagree's i will sell them a wolf cross greyhound to take ferreting with their wild polecat
  21. MY SENTIMENTS AS WELL, the locator is there as an emergency item, like a car seatbelt, you put it on every time you get in the car, but dont expect to use it every day ferreting is like fishing , patience is the key, give em time, you dont know what is happening below ground and by rushing to "help"-(i.e. dig) you could make matters worse, it really takes a long time to learn about ferreting and to estimate when/if you have to dig, on my fishing analogy fishermen who wind in and re-cast there lines all the time dont catch as much as those who leave it to settle and trust in the bait and t

  24. i have seen one, they are out there, shoot first and worry about the repercussions later, i dont think you would need to worry about your licence, as others say it was worrying stock or you shit yourself when it started to come towards you the sun are still offering £50,000 for conclusive proof, so wait for a pic of me on the front cover stood on a cats head
