  1. Dusk and dawn for me, not as productive as lamping but I'm not in it for the numbers. Just something about being out with dogs when the sun's just rising or setting...perfect.
  2. Eyes and ears open mate, not far from Bury (Ribble Valley) Some pics would be handy to ID em, if he has any. Hope they get back to him soon.
  3. For me if you want to breed for a particular trait the pure breds are a reliable way to achieve that ie: greyhound- explosive pace, raw speed. Saluki: efficient top end running style that equates to optimum stamina. You just have to accept these gains may come with losses in other area's, more speed less stamina and vice versa, as well as reduced tractability, nose etc. What I would like to see is more people going to the 'full coursing' hybrids instead of gh or whippet to produce 1st cross types ie collie or terrier to coursing dog. Just because a sighthound has bags of speed in the case of
  4. Crackin looking dogs there BS, how old is the Alaunt cross mate? from the litter on here a while back? Always nice to hear of another Hancock doing the business, mines long gone now but this one lad came out wi me one night an it was all the usual 'hancocks are shit' verbals......I only showed him my bitches ear tats when we got back to mine after she'd been making his whippet x look very ordinary all night....understand the anti-Plummer stuff, the guy was a tool, just a shame hancocks have to live with the backlash...Atb mate.
  5. thats all fine untill 5 of the litter make 27tts and 3 make 21tts due to there genetic make up and not knowing 100% whats in the mix True enough, litter bred up our way a few years back, out of an unknown breed dam to a beddy/whippet x grey dog both around 25`tts. dam had four pups, out of the three I saw grow not one made 22inch. The lad happened to meet the owner of the dams dam who told him she was put to a racing whippet, the lad said he would'nt of lined em if he'd known there was whippet both sides....good to know sometimes.
  6. good lookin pup that, make a good house guard/companion with the right amount of time and effort. Does my head when you see dogs with a lot to offer go to ruin, owners that struggle with a complete basket case of an unsocialized, unpredictable liability, all for the want of some basic training. How many people dya see letting the dog drag em down the street not even attempting to correct it, then they blame the dog when it gets aggressive or destructive. Stupid and lazy, living with an untrained dog is a massive chore, no joy in it.
  7. ths an American Stock Dog mate, some are mixed breeds, some are registered, this one looks like an English Collie (from dogs taken over by English settlers in the 19thC ) but it could also be an American Farm Collie, which looks pretty much the same, like a border but bigger and will work all livestock, not just sheep. They've some crackin herding dogs over there, makes you wonder what kind of lucher they'd produce put to a gh. The Hairy Mouth Heeler would be my choice, multi purpose hunting\herding dog, nearly always working dogs, rarely pets, hard as nails, trainable, rough coat....perfect.

  9. like others have said, clean the wound, close it by wrapping wi bandage, always used witchhazel after anticeptic, seemed to help mine/me kids cuts and scrapes knit better, one of grandma's tips. Dogs feet came good quick the couple of times I tried it so there might be summat in it. keep the dog in for a day or two aswell if you can. dont run the dog till its healed proper, if the cut has closed when you first take the dressing off to change it, leave it off to let some air get too it or it'll weep.
  10. Think I know what you're saying, if you had summat that you knew had bull in it you'd expect it to have a pathological hatred of gingers, and be dissapointed if it did'nt, if you did'nt know the breeding an the bull blood wasnt obvious you probly be suited if it was a decent pot filler and not worry too much about it.
  11. Seen a Vizla cross a few years back, quite racy for a first cross, couldn't tell you how well it worked, it was a pet owned by a vegan!! Looked handy tho, crying shame, no doubt one or two of its litter mates were out doin the business.
  12. Wont be as good as the Snow Leopard/White Tailed Eagle hybrids I'm genetically engineering, just picture a Stuka dive bomber with fur and feathers....gonna b f****n awesome.

  14. got a beardie/grey x bull/grey , but maybe your on about the other types of terrier (must have a touch of border in him as he is merle) bonny dog that mate, looks mustard, was the sire/dam 1st x? How much bull on other side, yours looks like it threw spot on mate.
  15. Not too hyper or too mardy, just a bright confident looking pup, should be curious and trying to sus you out! Feet not turned out at the back or turned in at the front, wormed, jabbed, not covered in fleas. Trust your gut, your pup'll let you know which one he is.
  16. sorry cant help you mate, but got to say, thats a useful looking bitch. She working well.....you can see the Picardy, come thru pretty strong for a 1/4 bred. Good luck wi her mate.

  21. Id lean towards a pup whelped just on or after the season starts in Sept, pups a good age to start earning his keep the following year then. Just what the auld fella always said, makes sense to me.
  22. You are correct ,....the Border Collie and the Beardie Collie are pretty much similar,...however, they walk a different path Aye, by way back I did mean way, waaaay back probably the middle ages or earlier there's been two distinct types, but they've had the occasional cross along the way too. But yes, totally different temperament and working style.
  23. Magpie on here has a cracker of a stud (you'd have to ask him if its available like) Galan its called, just do a search on the site for 'Magpie Galan' you'll see the dog, crackin picture aswell. 5/8 Beardie 3/8 Gh..Drew Pringle and Muirhead lines on the beardie side (real mcoy). There's a few more good uns on that thread too. I believe he has a full beardie dog also.
  24. there's one or two on the shepherds wi beardies website, and this brambledale lady had a litter out of her bitch breeze ( I think) that were all merles, her line started off KC Reg, but for the last 4 or 5 generations has bred only working studs in ( like I said the merles might well be a result of a border outcross on the working side or from the wider gene pool of beardies not allowed by the breed club in the early days when they set the standard for t he show type.
