i realise twenty 23 years ago what was needed for the rabbiting game and it wasnt a furry womble of hanckcok etc or a pure collie thing ,had some very good bitches at the bolting game and steady with it no madness top gear and as back as quick as they go out , soft mouth to ,great sport

eu polecats all the way ,greyhound ferrets ,cant beat them ,any way my favorite workers were and are sandys and albinos but ille give my eu polecats a chance there six month old now , had one out yesterday she done 4 good hill rabbits so shees coming on , the other one well maybe never make it but sheel get the chance and by next season if shees, no good well dead and gone ,cant complian had over 700 rabbs this season with dogs ferrets nets spade , ferrets cant be that bad ,must be doing something right

get a colie greyhound whippet type fech pure breeds had some up for a hunt some were alrite but were not as a hardy as a good lurcher get something 23 inches at shoulder see parents work and then make your mind up ,half of the dogs on net or advetised are pets come workers , as i says get a dog with a touch of collie and rest whippet greyhound they make the best rabbiting dogs ive saw , hope you get a good one

nice pup like the coulor hope he does you proud had one for three years good bitch but the dry arable land was hard for her but had fun when the ground was right , mines was three qaurter distance greyhound qaurter whippet boy blue was a handy dog nice bitch

alot of people dont realy no how to train or how to get the dog the chances to make them decent steady dogs ,watched one of my saluki crosses meg yesterday hunt the wind right round in a circle then like a cat stalked down wind of a hole ,there was a five holer we got three rabbits and that didnt have collie in her ,saw alot of poor articles of dogs hunting lately , running about mad and no style or control , headless chickens

for the uneducated a ferret isnt a ferret had several out hunting over the years , with crap workers just like a dog or lurcher some are bred better for the job than others ,the problem nowadays people bred of sub standard workers hence to get the real good workers its alot harder ,

abbotsford ferrets were several of the last greyhound ferrets were i got a good big sandy bitch half white half sandy cracking worker and when you dig you dont have to dig twice like some ferrets ive saw, i think people are getting mixed up with micros which are very small, i have pics of greyhound ferrets from the early ninties and late seventies big long fechers ,and can manhandle rabbits who are not having it , people with less expierence and havent seen greyhound type still disbelieve ,just like people who have dogs ferrets but not realy proper hunters, bolt or die is the way cant sta

youllr not beat abit of collie in adog to be the proper h j kc dog at times , its funny nowadays how the first thing you hear is does it catch , never is it obeident does it fetch ,i think the standard of lurcher work has went down the way when it comes to obeidence at times

how many of youse huntin men girls actauly train your dogs to hunt jump kill and carry back to hand alot on here talk about catching but not much on training entering, fetching jumping , wouldnt mind hereing methods of some of the other members on the hunt jump kill and carry that was the old advertisment in the exchange in mart h j kc

cant understand the big deal of the fetching game i start as pups and keep them going until i enter them into game then give them odd fetch to keep them sharp , , fetching is heredity from parents but can be trained into them ,got dogs its bred into them easy as hell to train others it has to be drumme d in but its never going be pretty at times diffrent way bred , alot of people buy running dogs that parents have no retreiving instincs in them its aharder job to train them saw alot of small terrier cross whippets rattle the ribs out of rabbits etc hate seeing dogs do that i like a dog tha

mate he wants to see good dog work ,fetching marking ,not some scruffy yapping beddie lol any way its all sorted ,had several out this year they had a blast , been a good season so far pups are doing well ,on the big land old dogs are ferreting fine had some good nites days , and some goodnumbers ,some of the land i have accses you could have the old feild trails on be good to get then going agin ,got the accses to accomadaition ,game etc food for thought

ye to true .i let them see a rabbit bolting in net they get rabbit dummies ,good stuff then once there done a bit and the stubbles cut bigger rabbits its alearning prosess

ye they look abit short on the leg old henry would stretch them mate at this time of year , you still got the furry type of lurchers you and rocky had simliar dogs nice type

mines cant catch a rabbit lol just winding you up mate ,it can be a bit of good banter , i lke a dog that can do abit of everything

try them on an old hare next theyl see if there pace kicks in mate lol chased afew rabbits other nite dogs had to dig in as they were on the wheat mate got them but were not push overs

maybe wait until rabbits are a bit dopier later on when breeding kicks in soon get a few easier catches for youre pups

i agree with you there mosley other les educated to the ways of the country side can make it hot and not goood crack
