  1. Welcome to the forum mate...............
  2. There are two types of side by side actions, boxlocks and sidelocks. Sidelocks are the oldest of the two and are a carryover from the days of flint and percussion muzzleloaders. In the late 1700s, Joseph Manton built a side-by-side flintlock muzzloader that gave final form to the double gun, all that remained was the evolution of breechloading and bringing the hammers inside. As breechloaders took the helm the external hammers remained, and finally as hammerless shotguns overtook hammer guns, the sidelock design remained. The difference between a sidelock and boxlock action is that the sideloc
  3. Does this mean that a quicker twist rate is better because you have more bullet choice, No the quicker the twist rate means it will stabilise the heavier bullets ..... it Will not give you greater bullet choice, http://www.gunnersden.com/index.htm.rifle-...wist-rates.html
  4. just also to add to what SS said the quicker the twist rate the heavier the bullet you can shoot, but the .223 should shoot most of what you want..
  5. good result there mate, It's hard to beat quality service.......... i however have heard poor complaints about sportsman too, A good result......

  10. 7mm-08 is an excellent calibre, but so is the 308 plus lots of cheap military stuff available for the .308 plus a bigger following for the calibre if resale was an issue, but the 7-08 is a good cal. for sheer availability of stock for the .308 i would lean that way personally.... but that's just my opinion, good luck with whatever you decide. snap.
  11. Welcome to the site, i hope you like what you see and take up the sport, And as for fruad, we all gotta start sometime in our life, you've just found out about hunting a little later.............. snap.
  12. indeed all true there mate about the bullet profiles etc..., however i wouldn't have the patience to try fiddling around with a heap of different brands of 100g bullets, hence i'm changing to a barrel twist rate of 1 in 9................... very soon........
  13. If your only on a small holding or garden then poultry pellets are very good normally retail about £8 or €10 per 10kg bucket............ either that or farmyard manure forked through the soil..............
  14. It seems SO are my reading skills mate.......................
  15. The only thing i could think off is to centre the scope moa adjustment and shim the mounts to make up the difference to weather its hitting high or too low... 6 MOA isn't alot before trying shims i'd count the total MOA adjustment of the scope and compare it to the spec of the scope....... If thats ok shims are the next step...... let me know how you fair mate.......
  16. There will be lots of answers here... Never been able to get on with the bore foam, especially in the small calibres, either sprays out the end of the barrel and pebbledashes the whole room or blows up on me at the breech end...so I stick with the solvents these days...Hoppes Benchrest 9 Copper Solvent is as good as any, seems to shift most things, then a bit of oil...but like I say the list will go on and everyone will have favourites. I doubt there is much difference between all the solvents and oils!
  17. i use forrest bore foam or the KG12 copper cleaner, solvents KG1, hoppes no9. nitro 303, hillmans range of cleaning products...
  18. Anyone got two matches for my eye's i'm bloody shattered..........
  19. Sorry deerstalker i'm half sleeping here, well pointed out dixy read it again.........oppppppppppppppppsssssssss SNAP........ my bad...hehe
  20. if you want an acurate rifle that you can shoot then forget about get synthetic stainless Where did you get this information please deerstlker........ i shoot a s/s and never had any problems with accuracy..... accuracy comes from the action and barrel not the type of material the stock is made from..... it's also quality in the barrel Also wether its blued or stainless. I'm not saying wooden stocks are not less accurate, but if you don't look after them with great care then warping can be an issue.... which will inturn effect a free floating barrel by touching it......
  21. SAD news there mate, but you WILL get there in the end i'm sure
