  1. ISLAYHAWK let me return my sympathy... its a horrid feeling seeing one of your workers/pets dead, not something i want to make a habit of. FERRETVILLE the same as your situation, the night before when i went in to feed them she was as good as gold, the next, dead.. im genuinely glad yours made a full recovery. i took my remaining 5 ferrets to the vet for a check up, pulse, temperature & a visual check & they have a clean bill of health. ive decided to get all 5 vaccinated for distemper, got them booked in next week. any precaution i can take ill do. prevention is better
  2. got this ferret harness delivered today... unlike the MK1 leather collar i got from deben which i had to gently scrape a slither of plastic off so the leather strap would slide through the gaps, the strap on this harness pictured is the just the right thickness to slide straight through with no need to take any plastic off the transmitters. you can either use the full harness which goes around the neck & body or seperate the collar from the harness & use it in the way you would a normal collar.. i wish i thought of this earlier instead of taking a fraction of plastic off
  3. the million dollar question.... i can only speak for my self. i find the mk3 nylon collars great with larger hobs & jills, but sh*te with small jills, thats why i converted my mk3 to the m1 leather collar. some on here do theres up tight that makes it work for them but if i ever trid to tighten mine up, my small jill wouldnt have it.. richie
  4. i know what you mean ! mind you i remember reading on here that some put tape over the speaker outlet to quieten it down abit. good idea ! personally, the way i use it is put the switch to search mode & turn the dial "pin pointer" fully clockwise, then as soon as i get a reading, & hear the beeps going into over drive i turn it down slightly untill i can just hear the noise, then as i move closer & closer i continue turning it down. ill take a look at the LED indicator & as it starts to move down the bar i then switch it over to locate & carry on as before & ke
  5. i cant see how people find the mk3 hard to use ....? search & locate, how hard is that !
  6. im from " down south ". a stone throw from the M25 top end. richie
  7. nice looking pup ! how old is she/he ? its a pain when a hole is missed or they slip the purse & you see them doing the off.... now if im working a certain area i throw a 100yrd longnet out as you never know.. & youre right, it is good to be out.. richie
  8. whats bull ! my comment, "i cant afford a locator ! is poor. were not talking of £1000`s its £127 " ? not really when someone doesnt explain their situation ? now if someone said £1000 fair enough, but no, £127. if people want something bad enough and it doesnt cost the earth, then they should save. pennies make pounds ! anyway you youngsters can ask for one for xmas...
  9. hi bill... i have it on hold for someone depending if im traveling near him next weekend.. if i dont ill let the other member know and if he cant get to me ill let you have 2nd refusal... richie
  10. i always keep dry food topped up for them & give them a rabbit every now & again... i doubt it was poisoning otherwise the others would be the same... like i said before, im putting it down to one of those things. richie
  11. just clicked on the page & saw an advertisement header with two fudge packers cuddling each other... whats all that about ? get enough of that shit on telly ! fair enough, each to their own, but dont need to be seeing it on here.. richie
  12. I've nearly always had a few going about the place, but never had one died like that, so sorry to hear it mate. Hope the rest of your family are ok. Had she been rabbiting the day before? she hasnt been out for the last 6 or 7 weeks. ive been out with a new ferret getting her use to things....
  13. i appreciate ll the replies.. just going to keep a close eye on the rest of them over the next few days. im just going to put it down to one of those things.. richie
  14. went to the club this morning to test the eley subs. put 5 through the sighter, bang-on. was happy with that so decided to move onto the score card. each bullet landed where i aimed when the trigger was pulled. i must admit i did snag one shot due to the trigger been standard. going to have to upgrade to the brooks trigger kit. the verdict of my tests are: winchester subs aernt worth a w@nk in my cz & that im going to be using eley subs from now on for my vermin control & for my tournament shooting. the accuracy in them is spot on, & quite cheap at £65 per 1000.
  15. i dont know what could of caused it ? just got off the phone with my vet & arranged to take the rest there tomorrow. i want to be on the safe side. he did mention it was common for ferrets to die suddenly. i dont know how much truth there is in that. richie
  16. thats like chalk & cheese now youve changed the settings. excellent quality for a phone. good as a video cam. nice looking ferrets too.... richie
  17. WENT OUT THIS MORNING TO CLEAN THE COURT OUT & COULD ONLY SEE 5 OF MY FERRETS. FOUND THE 6th "CHIC" CURLED UP DEAD... I AM F*CKING SICK TO THE STOMACH. SHE WAS 2 YEARS OLD. WHEN I SAW HER YESTERDAY, SHE WAS AS HAPPY AS LARRY.. EVEN THOUGH SHE WAS ONE OF MY BEST WORKERS, IT AINT THE POINT. IM GOING TO MISS HER. IM TAKING THE REST TO THE VET TOMORROW JUST TO GET THEM CHECKED OVER, BUT THEIR LIVELY AS USUAL.
  18. you could run a long net around the set to catch any bolters, but one problem you may have is when they decide to hop from one hole to another . your best bet would to lay a long net around, then depending on what sort of terrain the warrens are on would be to lay the remaining of that net if any between the holes. if none remaining then zig zag another long net. laying 70 purse nets & picking them up would be time consuming... also it would be bit of a bollock ache to keep replacing them if they kept getting disturbed by the ferrets. on a set that large i would probably put 4
  19. i dont agree with that, their useless with small jills as they slip right over their heads, even if their done up to the tightest. thats my experience anyway. richie
  20. Thanks everyone, richie, when your yearly wage on your weekend job because you are at college all week is 500 pounds a year and you have 4 ferrets and a dog, £127 pounds is an awfull lot.that would be more than half my money I am just going to leave it then and wait untill I am out of college. Thanks for everyone's suggestions and info. I will have to think up a plan.. terrierstuff, maybe you should of explained your situation before saying you cant afford a locator.. anyway £127 is for a new mk3. get your self on ebay theres a load of mk1 locators for sale, youll pick
  21. a stone throw from junction 1 of the A1, down south. i do travel between there & denham. probably too far for you. richie
