Beautiful girl - not surprised she is missed. My youngster is currently changing from bay, through roan, to "odd spotty looks like corned beef colour " colour ! Can't wait for his next winter coat !

What I class a Knocked toe is not a ligament or bone injury... Its a bad bruise what we may class a "jar"... Its localised trauma that has caused bruising and inflammation. Fractures and dislocations are different kettle of fish.. Any wound that gets infected has not been treated properly.. Common sense and basic hygiene go a long way... Each to there own but while you are lead walking your dog 4 weeks later, mine is back in the fields filling the game bag Have a look at the Mike Gilliard link that Millet posted - it gives loads of info about bone, ligament and tendon in

Bitches shouldn't look like that, whether she has just had pups or not. She needs some decent food.

Nope, not real. They could have used a better looking dog though !

dominant and recessive alleles play a role but its like when you look like your parent but your sibling looks like your other parent. This is because i asked if i could select a pup once theyre older, but apparently theyre booked the day theyre born, so its a guess how they turn out. Yep - in the first few days they all look like labs anyway ! Interesting point though - by the time they are likely to be old enough to have a true idea of what the adult shape is going to be ( assuming you can be that accurate ) then a lot of the formative weeks for behaviour may have gone. IMHO that is where

Depends on the dominance of the gene - as to which will show, which is why some families ( humans, dogs, horses, whatever ) can sometimes have that "look" about them, and you know they are related. Non-dominant genes can only show up in the appearance of the animal if the pup inherits the non-dominant gene from both parents. If it gets 1 or 2 dominant genes, it will always show. You only have to look at some of Queen Victoria's kids to see the family resemblance shows through very clearly - lots of dominant genes.

It's a bone/ligament injury - no amount of "letting blood out from cutting the nail" is going to make any difference - the swelling isn't blood, it's fluid in the tissue. Can you imagine someone cutting a nail through the quick, which is very painful, on purpose, when the toe in question already has a bone/ligament injury ? All it does is provide a route of entry to bacteria, risking infection. There is a reason "blood letting" isn't used anymore. The only time clipping the nail will help is if it is the nail that is broken/dislocated. When the swelling is further back along the joi

No, they don't need to have a season first - they can technically be speyed from 12 weeks onwards, although waiting til 6 months is more normal.

Welcome back :-) Hope the move went smoothly Nope, you missed nothing !

They won't do anything for actual performance. What they *may* do is help the body take protein from the diet and turn it into muscle. It occurs naturally in the diet anyway, and this process happens all the time. There is no real evidence it makes a huge/noticeable difference to a dogs muscle/exercise ability/end performance. If you are feeding a low quality protein ( cheap dry, with feathers/beak/feet/fish leftovers as the main protein source ) then no it probably isn't worth it, as the quality of stuff absorbed from the gut is going to be low. If you are feeding high quality meat/feed

Sorry to hear this :-( Calcium dropping that quickly in a healthy dog with good diet is not good news, but I was hoping they would be able to find out the problem and sort it. Sad news, but sounds like you did the right thing.

As far as offal is concerned, I feed some tripe ( once or twice a week at most, it isn't as nutritionally as rich as other meats ) and then add liver and kidney weekly - a meals worth ( so 2-3 % bodyweight ) each week. Heart is still muscle, rather than true organ meat, so I feed more of that than liver/kidney, but the main is beef/lamb/chicken skeletal muscle and chicken carcass. My lot love chicken wings, raw sardines, lamb ribs, and ox tail for the bone part of the diet. They don't seem to like pork raw, but will chew on ears and trotters happily. I add pasta/rice when I have spare stuff, b

Sounds pretty good. I try and vary liver/kidney/tripe, to ensure a good mix of vitamins etc, and just keep an eye on weight and what the poo is like - alter the bone content and oil addition accordingly. I found once mine had got used to the idea of tinned sardines, they were more than happy to eat raw oily fish from the shop - much cheaper. I then just add cod liver oil ( brought in bulk 5L container from the local equestrian shop ) to the food bowls, about 10ml per dog.

Collie based lurcher - great dogs, always entertaining, usually a challenge, but very rewarding. And I like them, which is lucky, as I have 2 !

I can listen to the Goons for hours. Those and the film Airplane! ... cracks me up every time.

Hand foot and mouth in kids is a pretty common virus - similar to chicken pox - most schools won't let kids with symptoms go, until the last blisters have cleared, as it is very contagious, but rarely causes any real problems. eta - it isn't the same disease, or even same virus, as foot and mouth in animals. The 2 are not related.

Collie... Dunno Emma I can see a wee look of Manchester Terrier or Italian Greyhound in the mix... That tail looks pretty wide and fluffy, maybe they are sneaking the Mal X in gradually, bit by bit
-
It's got the "omg I'm about to be really naughty and difficult" look in it's eyes.... I'm going with collie being in the breeding !
