Ive just been reading about the history of the rivalry between the two . Sunderland were anti the English King because he allowed the geordies more favourable trading conditions. Plus the geordies and the mackems supported different factions of the Scottish crown. Man U and Man City were divided on religious lines as were Liverpool and Everton. There was also beef between Liverpool and Man U as they competed for trade via their ports. The bitterness between Leeds and Man U is interesting. Turns out Leeds are just c**ts through and through. The sport used to be about who was the better man and that was important to boxers. Now it's about making as much money as possible and tactically avoiding those they might lose to. The only positive is that there will be a lot fewer ranked heavyweights who will become punch drunk in future years. They take a lot less meaningful blows to the head and have far fewer fights.

Sometimes I reckon heavyweight boxing is on its way out. It's mostly a TV event these days and try as they might, its not that interesting anymore. Youngsters will become more interested in WWF, Rocky films, competing giant trucks and computer generated fantasy fights than the noble art. The current crop of heavyweights have devalued the sport, made it boring and will end up killing it.

At last. Lol. This is my grandad in his Boer war uniform,complete with pith helmet. His wife and some of his older children are superimposed. It must have been taken between 1899 and 1902. I have a picture of him in the glasshouse somewhere about. He was put in there because he had beef with another soldier. They were put together in a boxing ring and my grandad lost according to the ref. But there was uproar as the decision was disputed by onlookers. You have to remember that we of a certain generation and persuasion are not up to speed with paedophile news. So I haven't seen a list. I look forward to seeing it this week. I was led to believe the female who is fighting against publication of the names is terrified for her life as her former attackers may take violent action against her for her role in exposing them. A judge is going to decide on that issue this week. She has to persuade the judge that her life is in genuine danger or not. But I may be wrong.
