Stress can cause many symptoms. I can't remember a time when so many people are on edge. Covid,Ukraine, the cost of living crisis, job insecurity, energy uncertainty and the fact that we have no confidence in the political system, all contribute to a stressed out nation. That has an effect on people's ability to cope with infection. Not my idle opinion, but the opinion of qualified medics. I am not suggesting that stress is the cause of any particular individuals problem, just making a general observation.

Ha ha. I once spent a brilliant day at Marwell zoo. The Mrs was shopping so I watched cheetah cubs and snow leopards cubs all afternoon. When I had to leave it was feeding time for the big cats. I walked down a path with roaring big cats on both sides of me. The combination of light fading, being on my own and the incessant roaring really scared the shit out of me. Its ironic really. Smuggling is actually keeping the species alive. OK they are not living in the wild, but there is still a healthy population to draw on for future conservation projects.

Rayballing? I've never seen the numbers of a species collapse as quickly as eels. They used to be in every waterway. I believe they are now so rare that smuggling elvers into the far East, where it is a delicacy ,is more lucrative than drugs. A friend of mine used to fish commercially for eels. He used to thread worms with wool and plonk them over the side of his boat. The eels would swallow the worms and he would pull them into the boat. I think he called it 'blebbing'.

For the last 6 decades and more I have been told by governments that " we have tough times ahead but the rewards will come later". Or "sunlit uplands await us", or some other such flowery shit. Still waiting. Governments also use crises to opportunistically punish us as well. "Sorry guys we are in deep trouble and it's only right that you take the pain." And we always suck it up.

Thanks for referring to me as " the void". That helps the discussion immeasurably. Even if Kwasi is correct in his hard line ideology, his understanding of what is immediately politically achievable is obviously non existant.
