  1. Preferably whole carcass... Rabbit, pigeon etc. If you can't get hold of that any of the ferret foods you can buy off the shelf would do the trick. Ferrets start to eat solids at around three weeks, so if they haven't been on proper food until seven weeks that could well be your problem.
  2. Where do you guys get these ferret wheels from?
  3. Is there any difference between the gold and silver bands?
  4. I went to this show last year and it was a well run event. Sadly the turnout was poor, so if you're local why not call in.
  5. How hard does the Brittany hunt?
  6. This is news to me. I thought albino x albino gave you albino kits. I'm happy to stand corrected.
  7. That looks an interesting dog Jenny.
  8. If you can find the thread that would be great. I can't see it myself.
  9. The best dog I've seen of any breed or cross was a border collie. This dog did everything! If I could guarantee getting one half as useful I would have one. As an all round hunting compaion I think they would fut the bill. The difficult part would be finding one.
  10. Thanks for the reply Jenny. The idea wouldn't be to produce a purpose bred Gundog, but a general mooching/hunting/ferreting type of dog. Collies will 'point' game so to speak so perhaps a mix of collie and pointer would produce a hunting companion with good qualities, yet smaller than a pointer.
  11. I've read quite a bit on here about the merits of pointers and how they are commonly crossed with Labradors to produce all round dogs for the shooting field. My question is has anyone seen/bred/worked a pointer cross collie? A good friend of mine is keen to experiment with this type of dog as it could be argued that they have a similar hunting style. Any thoughts or suggestions would be welcomed.
  12. Really interesting thread and I would love to see the spaniel x whippet.
  13. Gutted. This is the best ferret I've owned. I even worked her very sparingly last season to make sure she didn't get lost... not that I've ever lost a ferret but I do use them n rats as well as rabbits.
  14. Well this Jill of mine still hasn't come into season. In twenty eight years I've never had a jill come into season this late. I've had old jills stop coming into season, but this one is four/five and fit as a flea. It's all very strange...
  15. Some good points about the damage done by ferals. I have a smallholding and when I first moved here the place was swarming with cats and magpies. Consequently... no song birds. However, for those in more urban areas make sure you think about folks pets. I know some people who think as much of their pet cats as I do of my dogs. Mr Mrs has a pet cat and my dogs see him as one of the pack. If something happened to Guinness the cat my other half would be gutted and so would I.
  16. Haven't been to this show in years... is it worth an afternoon out?
  17. This show is on Sunday and Monday. Terriers and lurchers on Monday I think. Anyone know if it's worth a visit?
  18. Flecks sake fella have some patients,,,,what the matter with you,,,it's only just the end of winter,,,I still have just 1 Jill who is full in season,,,,3 others not even showing signs Fair point Tomo! All my other Jills are fully in season and this one hasn't started... hence the mild panic.
  19. Well folks she still hasn't come in to season... I'm going to move her into a lighter spot and see if that makes any difference. It's Sod's law that the other six Jill's are bang in but I only want to breed from this one!
  20. I've got a five year old jill that I'm desperate to breed from. She's the best I've had in 28 years of ferreting. However, she still doesn't show any signs of coming into season. Last year I thought I missed her season and the vasectomised hob got to her early... this year I've checked her daily and still nothing! Haa anyone experienced Jills with strange/no seasons? All my other jills are fully in. I think I might move this one into a lighter spotbin the hope that it kick starts things.
  21. If anyone has a lintran, trans k9, cab etc style dog box for sale please let me know. If you're within easy driving distance of Monmouth I'll come and buy it right away! I've got a large double cab dog box for a truck or van if anyone is interested in a swop. I've changed my vehicle and it no longer fits!
  22. I'm only on 71 for the season, 8 being the biggest bag so far. If you need a hand carrying them next time...!
