i dont get how the salukis fit in because surely they would want to give chase to a hare. or are they there to put up the hare and hold the hare once the falcons got it to stop the falcon taking a beating? surely something like a pointer would be better as they would flush the game only and not chase it? ive seen hare hunting videos with a falcon and two running dogs and if anything the dogs put the falcon off of commiting to bind to the hare and it looked pretty dangerous on the falcons part as they came crashing in to get the hare putting there feet right in the way of the dogs jaws

real difficulty, i use a kitten collar with a bell on the ferrets neck so i can deal with the rabbit then when i return to the set i can hear him if he decides to wander, also if i dont know where he is and i carnt hear his bells i will cast the hawk back into the tree and watch his head moving around when he follows the ferrets movement, never fails, he sees things i never would, might have lost my ferret a few times without him. i trust my hawk 100% with my sandy hob he would let him eat of the same rabbit without a fuss but not with my polecat he hates him with a passion and would happily h

It can get lonely at times when your on your own just with the hawk. Its alot better when your with a mate. Even a dog keeps you in good company at the sometimes long periods of inactivity whilst you are waiting for the ferret to bolt the rabbit or come of a kill as im not carrying a spade all day with the rest of my gear to dig it out ha

Id love a pointer, I think a Brittany would be my preferred dog. They might be ugly fuckers but they get the job done

I thought you must have bought an older bird. Doesn't matter though like you said she improved towards the end of the season and there's no way she could get anyworse. So its onwards and upwards with her. I'm sure she will work out just fine

thats what ive been told i will have a go with it when i get all the equipment and see what i can do with it

if the original was succeptable to a disease which we didnt know it was say a disease from abroad and it came over here it will kill every last bit of crop because there is no diversity as they are all clones of the original they carnt evolve or as adapt to become immune

im saying its unusual for a harris to take that badly, meaning flying into an opposite field away from a dog. ive not heard of many eyasses if any being so hard to break to dogs, yes many just tolerate them but its not the usual thing for them to absolutely hate them, not for an eyass anyway. maybe if he bought an older bird which hadnt been broken to dogs. anyway like artic gun said having the dog round the mews will make a big difference and seeing him serving game will be the biggest help, same with ferrets. certainly wish i had a pointer would be a great addition to the team

did you have the harris from an eyass or one which had already trained, its unusual to have a harris hawk take so badly to a dog. but like you said she is making improvement so thats all that matters

glad your sorted out

im sure you will do just fine. hawking can be a real test sometimes. my first 2 seasons i didnt own a ferret or a dog so i would be knackered by the end of the day walking every field beating every bit of cover to get one rabbit, then do it all again the day after, but that didnt make me enjoy the experience any less. i loved every minute of it

if you clone a plant that means you have no diversity so if a virus or disease destroys that plant it means the entire crop can be affected. cloning just leads to small gene pools meaning if a disease does spread to human and plant cells it can wipe all the cloned cells out.

The thing is this kind of research is leading to cell rejuvenation, if your 60 yr old cells can re-generate to that of a 21 yr old getting old will be a thing of the past. The possibilities are endless. then that leads to a load of people refusing to die, meaning the world gets overpopulated. food and energy shortages and worldwide unrest. then there are the ethics of it, is it fair rich people can afford it but not deserve it, but poorer families who deserve it carnt? answer NO

i know they did it with a barrel racing horse, was the world champion but he was a rescue horse and had had the snip or just fired blanks, anyway the owner could earn a fortune from breeding him so instead she cloned him, meaning the offspring would be 100% genetically matched then used that horse for a stud, even though it didnt have the same abilities as its dad
-
its not bringing back your dead dogs though its bringing a dog back that looks exactly like your dog but will most probably have a completely different mindset
-
Always nice to see youngster appreciate the diversity and wonder of nature! ffs lol like

A Good Boning Knife For Hunting
youcanthide...BANG replied to Andy_c's topic in General Airgun Discussion
i use the jack pyke skinning knife. cheap great to hold, good looking comes with a sheath and keeps a nice edge although it does need sharpening as soon as bought as its pretty blunt, but im sure your chef friend can do it for you -
i would like to do a few vids too, maybe if somes good enough i might put them on youtube or maybe we could start up a hunting life falconry account between us if thats possible only share the password between those who will use it then post them on there, just an idea. nice to give members and other beginners an insight my harris loves a bath dives straight in before ive even placed it on the ground ready for it filling up ha. never once had to imp a feather with mine. i recon water softens them as every week during the season i pour kettle water over the tail feathers and wing feathers w

Lets keep a regular diary on here next season, like crow hawker says plenty talk the talk the Internet certainly lacks threads about actual hunting with hawks. The best threads on IFF are the diary type and guess what those lads seem to catch stuff. ye we deffinetly need to keep one, im taking smoothfinish out next season so it would be nice to have something to look back on, the reason it can be hard to keep a diary is me like alot of other falconers only have themselves to go out with so trying to control hawk, ferret/dog and camera can be difficult. but im sure between the two of us we can

no it wasnt sorry for the confusion ha

i never said you was kill motivated i said you was kill count motivated. not the same thing, kill motivated is to get a kick from the actual killing of the animal. not saying its bad or offensive to ask about kill counts but its certainly not something you ask the first time you meet somebody. now im not one of these people that say the flight is everything, i too am disapointed if i come home empty handed but like i said a kill tally becomes unimportant and not something i feel the need to do or ask for anyone elses, as long as them and the hawk are having a great experience a kill everyday i
