  1. mines dropping them like mad but ive still get two sets from previous moults so i havent been collecting them he pics them up and puts them in the corner or brave sparrows fly into the aviary and takes the breast feathers. i know for certain he has dropped 4 tail feathers and a few wing feathers. try clover honey ginger shooter i got told it really speeds up the start of the moult. i was looking for some but then he started dropping
  2. i bet you are, the glove is the only thing i skimp on because by the end of the season mines always caked in fur, feather and god knows what else. cheap glove of ebay does the job bin it at the end of the season and replace it with another. dont have to piss about maintaining them and keeping it looking good
  3. bird of prey decoy just keep moving it about. but then you could get a mob of crows after it
  4. did u put it on a radiator or anywhere near artificial heat i was always told when i get mine wet leave it hanging somewhere away from any heat and it will be fine, always worked for me
  5. id say 2004 the law in 1066 is one of those laws that nobody took notice of and wasnt really recognised. its like the bow law where its legal to, i quote In Chester, a person is permitted to shoot a Welshman with a bow and arrow, as long as he is inside the city walls after midnight. nobody will ever do it as its illegal to murder someone and although it is still legal to do so you will still be charged for murder, so i think thats what happened with the deer law until 2004
  6. when they are instantly responsive to a call and follow you without needing to be called is how i know. usually just wait until you get that instant responce then weigh the bird then steadily take the weight up until the instant response begins to tail of then you have a maximum flying weight when you can fly the bird. my male harris ideal flying weight is 1lb 5.5oz but will fly and follow on upto about 1.7 but after that response is really slow and the bird becomes uninterested edited to add all hawks are different so you cant predict what flying weight they should be, without seeing t
  7. paid £17 each for our two both males from different shops
  8. i wouldnt dream of moulting any bird like i do with the open front aviary at the minute other than the harris. its just that they are so easy going and so you can get away with it and still get top results. but with any other bird i would be seclucion all the way . still not sure on handling hawks through the moult though but if it working for charlie caller and craigynewall then there is no need for them to do anything different and like has already been said the harris is the perfect bird to do it with however thats where the line needs to be drawn because with birds being so easily accessi
  9. not being a cocky c**t mate, just your posts make out as if your some sort of bird whisperer. and as far a sticking up for grovsey im sure he doesnt need it but the point is you jumped down his throat as soon as he gave some advice and his opinion on a proved tried and tested method of moulting. also read your posts bud im not the one with the attitude problem calling members dumb, cocky c**t, knob and sarcastic im sure it isnt how you would talk to someone in person so why do it over the internet. lets leave it behind us anyway i know that if a method was working for me i wouldnt change it fo
  10. try offering them a day out with the birds one of my farmers were telling me him and his brother had a kestrel when they were lads HINT HINT but this was through last years moult so i couldnt offer him a day out. i know if i was a farmer i would rather have a lad flying birds than someone walking around with an air rifle, but i would say that, flying birds myself. all the best anyway bud im sure something will turn up. perhaps ask around the local pubs im sure the staff will know who the local farmer is maybe they could pass details on to him for you?
  11. on the other post it was the wrong way up so i edited it normal then he removed the picture on his first post but since this is where all the coments are happening i thought i would post it on his behalf. i think it looks mint
  12. im blessed with having a carpet fitter for a dad he works in and around the pontefract area so gets to go on alot of peoples property and since my dads just fit there carpet when he asks for land its hard to refuse. so when i started out i got permission pretty quick. its starting to tail off know though havent received any new permission since november time. thats usually when i get the permission as people want the house looking nice before christmas
  13. you obviously have a special gift with hawks being able to read there minds a true doctor dolittle, how she tells you these things is amazing. what you need to understand is a bird of prey isnt wired up like say a parrot or budgie, they dont seek affection or attention they are simply on the lookout for there next feed. if the methods working for you then that absolutely fine, crack on. but you would be the dumb one to believe the hawk enjoys the attention
  14. you out to calm down mate i agree with grovsey it will stress your bird out handling her during the moult even if you dont see it, the birds gone from flying free going where she wants in the aviary to putting her restricted on the perch, what difference is it gonna make being able to see out of the aviary to being able to see the exact same thing in the garden? you would do well to listen to grovsey he has helped me out in the past and he his only giving you his advice which is sound advice and he deffinetly doesnt deserve to be called dumb. my aviary is open fronted during the moult too, how
  15. i leave eggs whole and give it them when they are in the pen outside there cage. gives them something to do takes quite a while for them to break it

  22. i use westweald falcory for most of my stuff
  23. well ive got a staffy and a teacup yorkshire terrier so your lads lurchers would probably eat the yorky and all the rest would bully the staffy because he is ginger lol
  24. well the slingshot arrived today a day earlier than expected. likes: - nice size not to big not too small perfect for keeping in a gamebag and forgetting about it until you need it - looks good from the front - textured rather than really smooth like my other catty. really helps holding it with how little it is - less fork showing than a regular catty making it really accurate, just hover your hand over the target, release and hit - powerfull through one side of a tin can and major dint in the other at 15 yards dislikes: - keyring bit way too big and clinks when attatched to somet
