  1. thanks bud what was your first kill? It was, mate. Probably more luck than judgement in truth, but they all count. I have to be careful, as I've moved to a more built-up area, but the catty still makes the odd appearance........... ok what was it you took, or is it a secret ha pm me if you want
  2. i did try to leave feathers on it, i usually freeze pigeons for a month before feeding to make sure no nasties can survive but i just thought it would be good for a bit of warm meat so just cut the breasts off to stop any chance of disease or worms
  3. luckily the ferrets popped out shortly after but i would never have dug in the garden before unless there was no other option. dread to have thought what would have happened if we had to leave a ferret behind, he had a pen with chickens in, i dont think they would have lasted long
  4. We had that where out on Pedro's permission and theres a guest house in front of it and the guy asked him to do the back garden , next time we are there nets down ferret in and the guys comes out and says whats happening only just bought the place he was okay just wondering what it was going to cost him , after being told it was a freebie he was happy ha i would have thought he would have wanted them gone as theres his horses in the field at the side that wasnt there before so they could have easily have fell in to one but he absolutely blew his top, mind the dog didnt help growling
  5. spot on Arctic..theres a fella not far from me who breeds large Falcons for the middle eastern market etc etc .... makes far too much money from what i have heard..he used to breed parrots before BOP.. And he has supplied a good few people in my area with birds which are now being bred and sold..most of them have never even had a seasons hunting or even been flown..? I must admit that seeing your bird and reading a few of your posts is what has opened up my eyes to the Birds again after a good few years of avoiding them . I've seen the Harris's and Goss's and Peregrines...but I would
  6. only time ive lost permission is when i rang the landowner to let him know i was on the land, did a few warrens then decided to do a set that is at the bottom of his garden, most of the time he isnt in but when he is we usually have a good chat, unbeknown to me the farmer had only moved house, so there i am stood waiting for a bolt with all the nets and my mates beddy/whippet when this bloke comes over shouting the odds threatening with the police, tried to explain the mishap but he wasnt having none of it, grabbed the nets and ferrets and went, told the old landowner the day after and he near
  7. ha i know you did glad i did use them or the bike shed might have had a hole in it otherwise. im suprised the pigeons even landed in the garden with the hawk.
  8. falconers have got to follow the general licence aswell and it's your responsibility to make sure nothing like that happens so yes you would be liable as the buzzards arent on the license. its just like keeping eagles for fox hunting with hounds its wrong, there only seen as a loophole and not used as theres supposed to just like what your suggesting. How is it wrong ? It's keeping within the law as we are all supposed too .... dont get me wrong i would love to see fox hunting with hounds made legal again as much as the next bloke but the fact is the eagle is being bought to be used as a
  9. thanks mate to be honest i haven't a clue where i hit it as the skull seemed intact, i recon at the base of its neck but not too sure.

  12. well just 15 minutes ago i went out to feed the hawk, opened the door and heard a set of wings, looked over the garden gate and there was 2 wood pigeon, one on the floor the other sat on the fence at hearing the door open, ran up stairs grabbed the catty and a marble as i couldnt find my coat with the 12mm lead in . ran back down stairs opened the door and shot the pigeon on the right at 10 yards. a little flapping was all it could manage before it passed. only problem is the marble went on to dint the metal bike shed behind it, so that made me glad not to have used 12mm lead ha. cut the brea

  16. dont suppose you could put a pic up could you?
  17. cheers for that mate will give it a go, nice cheap but effective alternative
  18. great news mate, worthwhile thread this ha, im going to give it a go as soon as ive got some spare time, how did you go about attatching the drill to the reel?
  19. yes but most normal lure machine use thin line and the drill is handheld so comes a few feet off the floor so theres not much line touching the floor compared to a normal machine so less resistance
  20. what just lure machine work or the actual drill/reel combo I used lure machine mate but I will be trying drill and reel combo for sure this season is it sea fishing reel I can see of video and surly that is not fishing line it looks thinker yes its called a multiplier and he uses thicker rope on the reel wheras if you used braided fishing line you will get a longer distance and more speed as theres less drag i imagine, just use 4-5 ft thicker rope at the lure end to reduce tangling. im going to give it a go and see how it works out
  21. tbh mate i carnt be forking out £150 for one, it wouldnt get enough use, ive already a drill so its just a multiplier i will be needing but you right they do look the dogs bollocks
  22. thanks bud i dont see any reason why turns couldn't be used with the birds, definitely going to look into one
