  1. Carefull your quickly becoming the new jorg sprave ha
  2. Same its addicting ha. Carnt wait to be out next season, at least I've got another member coming with me so im not on my own all the time, be nice to spread the load, atleast with his help I will be able to get some pics to share. It was nigh on impossible last season with me running round like a blue arsed fly from hawk to ferret
  3. alot nicer than the first, didnt really see how it was going to be comfortably shot
  4. ha like you said it would be easily done. but to be honest with the price of birds nowadays would it really be worth the effort? unless you was breeding a rare, expensive and sought after bird there just isnt enough money in it like they used too. like crow hawker said you couldn't get a harris for under a grand. a gos was closer to 2 grand and now there worth absolutely minimal amounts compared to what they used to, i can remember jasper on here breeds peregrines and he was saying everybody just wanted to imprint them for breeding purposes, so it wont be long before peregrines are going for s
  5. so true, whilst i think its great that a dedicated falconer can so easily buy a BOP, but then you carnt have one rule for one and another for someone else meaning its too easy for anybody to buy a hawk then pass it on to the next numpty and the cycle just keeps going on aslong as the breeding of BOP is exploited. its not ownership that needs regulating its breeding, as reduced numbers means demand will increase so in turn so will the price, putting all but the truly dedicated off of owning a bird
  6. when i was persuaded to go with the village numpty and his lurcher for a mooch. never had an interest in running dogs but he was on and on for weeks about going out with his dog. so i took him on one of my permissions with my ferret. all the way down there hes telling me all these stories about him and his mates dogs, the dumbest people imaginable, think if the inbetweeners went hunting, put the ferret down a 4 holer the lad had his dog on the slip. rabbit ran one way the dog ran totally the other getting smaller and smaller as he ran to the other length of the field. the lad set of running af
  7. when i see them at shows and on videos it all just appears to be too hard, i always believed that you was lucky to see the flights and most time was spent tracking them down. but crowhawker and articgun has made me realize that it is probably the most exciting type of falconry there is so i know that i will fly one in the future. but to be honest i love the hawks and i wont ever be without one, puts a smile on my face when i walk along and the harris follows me like a dog without calling him. i think i would miss that with a falcon as theres no connection there if you get what i mean, they ar
  8. im in the same boat, thats why when i get a falcon later in life it will be flown on gulls on corvids
  9. i think im gonna give birch plywood a go, can get offcuts for next to nothing. i need something to do during the offseason. at least it will take a little bit of pressure off you keeping the catapult section alive as it will be me flooding it with shit catties
  10. jesus, havent laughed like i have now in quite a while.
  11. where is it you get the wood. do you buy it in bulk or as offcuts. what other would do you recommend, i can get cuts of mdf and birch plywood. are these any good?
  12. how long do they take you to make, from start to finish because you use hand tools dont you? need to make my own now ive got some spare time
  13. great news the blokes got back in touch and has said that we are welcome to have a field meet on his land. as ive already said the land is his own in which he makes a living offering hunting trips with harris hawks and we are taking a pottential booked hunting trip day so the bloke will want paying. hes offered a large mass of land to hunt rabbits over. im just talking prices with him. so again anybody who is interested in a THL falconry meet in north yorkshire please let me know
  14. just waiting for a reply hopefully it wont be too expensive and he will realise he will receive alot of publicity through the forum and its members. worst case scenario is he wants to charge per person like he does his hunting experiences then it will get pretty costly i imagine. if not im going to keep my eyes open for somewhere else we could hold a THL meet
  15. remember nothing has been confirmed but they operate from kettlewell and i dont know prices yet . if its overpriced then the meet wont be goin ahead, im just enquiring for now as theres no way any of my permission owners would allow a meet up.
  16. so again if you would be willing to chip in the costs for a days rabbiting on the yorkshire dales with your hawk with other members from the forum just say yes. like i said ive only enquired in an email but its just in case its a possibility and he would like to know the numbers of members coming
  17. im on about a moor, its for a field meet as it will be hard finding a landowner who will allow us all on his land. ive sent an email to a bloke who offers hunting with his hawks on the yorkshire dales to see if we can have a THL meet on his land so we will have to pay for a day as its not pest control
  18. ive emailed the bloke who runs the company just to enquire if it would be possible for a THL meet on his land. out of interest how many of you would be willing to chip in the costs for the meet, remember we will only be hunting the rabbits if it does happen. and its in the yorkshire dales so travel costs need to be considered just post saying you would if you would like to take part
  19. PM RubyTex im sure there was a thread about him needing a job
  20. more than likely, another option im thinking of is that a company offers hunting experiences for parties hunting rabbits in the dales with harris hawks. maybe asking the bloke to pay to hunt on his land with our birds as opposed to his. as a falconer he would have more of an understanding and i bet he would like to meet a few falconers. i will look into it
  21. yes told them that theres a party of us with hawks looking for a bit of sports with just rabbits
  22. just got an email back saying this Sorry to say we don't have any rabbits for hunting since the cold winter of 2010. Dick so why still offer shotgun days? didnt cost me anything to try so i will just keep looking
