I was in a high seat last Summer foxin over a sheep carcasse. I'd got a rabbit caller out as well just to bump up the odds. I watched a barn owl attack the caller three times on the stubble, so they're not that clever . When it got bored, and presumably realised it wasn't a rabbit, it perched on the corner of the highseat about two feet away from my head. I don't put this down to avian stupidity, just my uncanny ability to camouflage myself as a tree. Do like 'em though

I've got a Howa blued hunter barrel, Leupold 4-14x50 (second hand) on top with a Predator 8 Mod. I reload Lapua cases with 50gr V Max and Benchmark. 100yds. Four shots. One ragged hole

Strikes me its got to be something to do with Buzzards. Theres bloody hundreds of them here. Badgers don't help either. The natural balance has been disturbed by long periods of protection, homo sapiens isn't being allowed to play his part.

I use barley but I do know a bloke that uses bananas. Make sure the ponds aren't too deep. Feed on a sloping shelf, pointless throwing it in deep water cos they wont get it.

That's a good idea. Teaching prisoners to kill people with a knife. Put that one on your list of skills at your parole hearing. God bless rehabilitation

Proofing Clarification
Skull Hooker replied to Skull Hooker's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Yokel Matt The mod carries no markings. A Wildcat predator 8 When you say is it a 25 or a 30, what do you mean? Are they the two ranges of mods sold? Ive got another Predator for my 204 Ruger which is marked 204 Ruger and .223 Rem. Its stamped into the mod. All a bit confusing this, -
A friend of mine bought one of these. OK in light weather but in heavy wet, the seams leaked

Proofing Clarification
Skull Hooker replied to Skull Hooker's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I got the mod from him yesterday. He asked me did I want to send everything off for proofing and I said no. We tried the mod on the rifle to make sure the milled bushing was clear of the barrel, then he insisted I take it off as he couldn't let it leave on the rifle. Dramatic eh? -
I have bought a .223 which was screw cut. It is a brand new rifle and I presume the stamp underneath the screw cutting is the proof mark. I have now attended my local gunsmith to buy a moderator, who tells me that it has to go off for proofing with the rifle, but isn't it already proofed. What are they proofing, the mod or the rifle/ mod combo? If the latter is the case, if you changed the mod, would it need proofing again? Is it all a bit of a con to screw money out of shooters? You'd think that the mods, which are general calibre specific, would be sold ready proofed. The last qu

Mate, if you've got permission for rabbiting, use it to get a 22 rimmy. At least you can eat em afterwards. Nice head shot three quarter grown rabbit. Difficult to beat and no denture danger

I've got Aigle, neoprene, and they've lasted six seasons so far and still going, and they're on me 5 times a week in the shooting season. They're 'Wednesday' boots. Its like any make of boot though, the next pair you get could be a 'Friday' boot and fall apart after three months. No matter who makes 'em, you'll always get a pair or two made by the bloke in the factory who's just found out his missus is a lezzer or bonking the neighbour. Minds not on the job and we pay the price.

I've got one. Use for dedicated NV foxing rifle. My Howa with 1 in 12 wouldn't stabilise the 40gr factory V Max, and the 32gr was OK but not amazing. Very fast devastating round now launching 39gr Sierra BK from Hornady cases at 3800fps above Re10x or Benchmark, in a 1/2" group. American bullets vary in their availability, so make sure that when they do become available, you can get a few. I've shot out to 300yds with no probs, very flat, but the wind affect a light bullet, whatever the calibre. Most of my shots are on foxes at 70-200yds, so im well happy with it.

Evening people Merry Christmas A while ago I upgraded my 204 Ruger from RCBS standard dies to Competition dies and have been really pleased with them. I bought a 223 Rem recently and am in the process of doing the same thing. I went on to the Optics Warehouse website, where I bought the last ones from, and clicked on the 'select calibre' dropdown menu, There, as expected, was the '204 Ruger' option, but the 223 is quoted as '223 Comp', and this got me thinking. Is the 223 Comp a calibre that stands alone Is this die suitable for normal hunting reloading for my Ballistic Tips, or

Whats The Best Fox Caller On The Market
Skull Hooker replied to bbs's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I used to have a work mobile and one of my own. The work mobile had a recording facility on it so I recorded myself squeaking then set it as a ring tone. When I was foxing up a high seat, I put the work phone where I wanted it, then call it from the other mobile. That brought a few in, Didn't cost anything cos I'd hang up before it connected to the answerphone. Genius -
Whats The Best Fox Caller On The Market
Skull Hooker replied to bbs's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Not sure about the American callers. They're aimed at an American market and a lot of the calls don't necessarily work here. Mouth, polystyrene on a tile are good because they are an actual noise, not a recording of one. I'll swear some foxes can tell if its recorded or not.
