Rescue Ferrets Any Good, Bit Pressed For Time?
Stretch177 replied to OldhamLad's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
I have a hob and had a Jill that were both rescues and both worked to a very good standard. The Jill was the best worker I've ever had and the hob is also up there. It is a lucky dip, but most ferrets that are there are from people losing them while out or who have given up the sport. -
Alpha ferret feast about £17 for 10kg

Introduce them on neutral ground outside the cage and see how they get on. You will get dragging about, as they are sorting the pecking order out and as long as there is no blood it should settle down in a day or 2. I recently got 2 new 11 week old jill kits and they are in with my 3 hobs and other jill and ive had no problems

So a few lads have had it happen, but nobody has decided to get them checked out?? Fook me!!!

For Sale For Sale Mk3 Ferret Box And Collar
Stretch177 replied to diggermad's topic in Ferreting Equipment
This isn't the 'faulty' reading one is it. -
I get this stuff from amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B002OSSO7C/ref=rcxsubs_mys2_product_title. I am paying about £11 a bag as i have the save and subscribe option which means i get 2 bags sent every 3 months, free delivery and a 10% discount. Good stuff, is the pellet type and soaks in the smell as well as the piss/crap. I normally pick the crap out and then empty the litter fully after a couple of days

I would say boredom is probably the cause. They need to be let out of their cage and have a run around the garden. Mine get let out for around 1-2 hours almost everyday if the weather lets me, running around, going through pipes, play fighting with each other and the dogs. Mine have acces to a 4 tier hutch which is connected to a 6x6x6 run/shed, which has pipes everywhere, hammocks, toys, balls, ferret wheel etc and they still get bored eventually if the are left enough. Try changing the layout of the cage every now and then aswell, keeps them interested, i often change the position of the ha

Anybody have a contact number/email for Nelson??

Keep him hydrated and if hes still the same in the morning then take him to the vets

You tried changing the batteries in the collar mate. Normally if mines giving an off reading, i stick 2 new batteries in the collar and its spot on again.

I just use nail clippers mate, take a bit off at a time so you don't cut into the wick

The one, spot on as always

Aye frontline will get rid, although you will only need a small amount. Easiest way to do it is spray it on some latex gloves and massage it into their coat, 1 spray for the kits and 2/3 for the adults. I have never used it on kits as young as that tbh so maybe try the wash and shampoo first and then just treat the jill. It will get spread about the bedding etc from the jill

Found 2 more this morning after a good look over him, funnily enough though, none of the other ferrets have any on them and the 4 of them all sleep together, are in the same hutch and run together etc etc. Gave them another spray of frontline just too be safe so hopefully that should be it.

Heres the photo's i promised mate. Got a bit side tracked with work and stuff but here we are. Like i said shes a little cracker and a nightmare to try and get a photo of as she won't sit still lol.

Yeah thats what it is laziness and its cheap. I know an old fella that feeds his on cat food, they work well etc but hes old school and won't listen too anything you say.

Hahaha very good ...Onthehunt, the ferrets got a blast of frontline about 3/4 weeks ago, they haven't been out of their cage since friday morning so dont know where hes got it from. Will go ahead with another clean out and then hopefully go from there. Will give them a little spray with the frontline again and hopefully it was just a rogue tick

Just been out too feed the ferrets and noticed a tick on one of my hobs, they got a clean out yesterday, washed down the hutches, fresh shavings etc so wondering if it was in the shavings?? Moved all the ferrets into a 2 tier hutch for tonight and going to clean the full hutch/run in the morning again and buy another bag of shavings just too be safe. Have checked the rest but couldn't really see with it being dark, so will have a proper look tomorrow, only seen this one as it was on the side of his cheek and as he is an albino it showed up quite clearly. Never had this before, the only time iv

This sort of thing really does boil my blood. Scum and there is no other way to describe them, pinching ferrets ffs. A young lad was in the local paper the other day as somebody had stolen his, while also raiding the family shed and nicking 2 bikes. I don't trust anybody and thats why i have padlocks all over my cages, takes a few minutes to open it all, but if somebody does try and break in, it means they will have too mess about for a bit and im sure the dogs would alert me too that. Chances are its somebody who has recently been round or you have spoken too, as its not opportunist its pre-p

Aye sounds like the heat aswell to me. Im not having many problems with the heat due to where my cages are. The only thing i really do is wet the roof 2 times a day too cool it down as thats the only part that gets warm. Although i still put a dish of water and a few bottles of frozen water in. just incase, they often sleep over the bottles and use them as pillows or at least mine do lol. I change there water bottles a few times a day aswell to keep the water cold

Yeah ill get a few up tonight mate, at work now. Funny little character shes turned into and her prey drive over the last 2 month since she came out heat has been immense. She got the ferreting straight away and is just starting too get into her bushing, got a few rats and flushed a few rabbits and pheasants out. Going to take her out with us when we do some rough shooting around september and see how she does. Overall mate im very happy and thanks again.

Yeah I also read/glanced over it while at work and thought he was joking. But having read it again I'm sure he's serious. Yeah same here, rabbit gets jumped on straight away and I love it when I go in the next morning and all that's left is the fur and lower jaw.
