  1. I'm taking this pup out on sunday to see how he gets on, he's been out bushing etc but not seen a rat yet. There's loads there apparently so hopefully we'll get a few and the mad little fecker will calm down and stop harassing my other two
  2. Is your older terrier a scrapper or ok with others?
  3. He's looking well mate has he got his teeth through yet? Tried him on any rats? Mines just getting his last teeth through and he's retrieved a mouse and a pheasant up to now but i'm gonna get him on the rats soon when the shoots pack up. He knows what to do after watching him with a fox brush and dead rabbits i'd say he's keen enough to do them the mad fecker. He needs to start hunting a bit though coz at the moment he's too busy playing with the other dogs and trying to shag bitches
  4. I'm pretty sure the batteries don't go opposite ways to each other, you'd be putting a + and + together. I'm pretty sure they do coz if you put them both the same way up it doesn't work. Have you seen a mk3 collar? They aren't the same as a mk1 with the screw on cap, the batteries go next to each other in the transmitter.
  5. Might sound a daft question but you did get a collar with it didn't you? Make sure you put the batteries opposite way up to each other too in the collar. One switch is on and off with the - and 0 and the other with l and s is for locate and search, locate goes to 8ft and the search goes to 16ft but not accurately its just for finding where abouts the ferret is in the burrow. When you have found where abouts it is switch to locate and pinpoint where it is holding it upright with the leds at the top. By listening to the pitch of the horible noise when it goes to the highest pitch its the close
  6. I prefer the light coloured ferrets myself like albino or light silvers, dunno why but i think its from having my best workers in that colour. Every so often a poley or sandy will catch my eye though. I've met loads of people who swear blind that poleys do one thing or another that whites can't do etc like poleys can climb steep tunnels better or that their faster and still won't have it that the colour doesn't matter even when you say that the poley and albino are litter mates Colour is irrelevant, the die hards say that colour doesn't matter for working etc but why not keep a ferret tha
  7. Rubber gloves will do mate but best bet is just to not feck about touching them, obviously you have to touch the dogs at some point but theres no need to touch a rat. Most of the time your hands are on a spade. Is there any rabbits on there too and do you need a hand with owt? My pups teeth are changing now so i'm gonna get him on the rats soon. Gnipper
  8. Tell her to feck off, she'll be the one whinging when you can't afford nights out or holidays coz she's wearing the cause of your debt round her finger. Its only a piece of metal to prove she's got you by the balls, if she's not happy with the fact that she won't have to give head anymore and can stop you doing what you want theres summat wrong with her.
  9. Get yourself a dog for marking the holes it makes it a hell of a lot easier and then it'll be rabbit pies all round
  10. Nice one Compo, we had 9 today and my lurcher pup has started marking too he caught and retrieved one too which had my heart in my gob coz its rock hard round here. He found a dead tufted? duck for us too which is now ferret food. I've never tried a folding spade but wouldn't go without my bulldog.
  11. I think with ferrets its supposed to be down to the photoperiod but with rabbits its just every time they think its warm enough to knock some young out. Artificial lighting is supposed to be able to bring ferrets in season but I only switch the light on in my open doored brick shed to get some dog food out. The ferrets outside aren't in season yet and they get more daylight?
  12. It was James Mackay the ferret (or any other animal for that matter) expert
  13. Some of my hobs are in now, just the ones in the shed which I would have said was darker than outside so they should come in later but had the same last year. Going of the noises at night time I think they could do with some lube
  14. Eye stickers on the top of it???
  15. Welcome back, if you've got permission out by you i'll bring the dog and lamp down if you want You have pm too.
  16. Sorry to hear about your brother KIPO Gnipper
  17. You should have asked her for a gobble so you wouldn't tell her hubby
  18. People making a daft attempt at hoofing a rabbit thats got a big heavy dog motoring along behind it Lurcher + legs = pain
  19. Back on topic the best ferrets i've ever had were off the keepers dad who was the keeper before him and had the same line of ferrets for years, I could have probably picked one out of 50 other ferrets too as they all had the same features and were unlike most others, can't describe how but they were. This old boy certainly knew his ferreting and at about years old was still out and about on his carrier bike with a sack of ferrets on the front miles from home, he's in a home now the poor old feller. Unfortunately the jill was the only ferret I ever lost at work (with a locator on) and the ho
  20. It wasn't agression it was more confusion as to what your post has to do with traits that are bred into lines of ferrets. As I normally try not to take notice of anything you've posted i'll go back to that, be sure to let us all know when you catch your second rabbit though. How many years was it now since the picture of the one you caught(?) once upon a time?
  21. I think the key with kits & taming is food, if you shove enough in & they thrive minimal handling imo is required, i hate reading about bitey kits basically because i am of the opinion they get mauled to death & quite frankly pissed off so they nip large litters can be seperated into small groups but again if enough food is added daily sibling rivalry should be minimal if not your not feeding enough Kay wtf has that got to do with things that are in a ferrets genes? Hate reading about bitey kits all you like it will never be anything i've typed, most the threads on bite
  22. Their temperament is hereditary imo so I can't see why working ability/instinct won't be. I've read about the ferrets from Abbots brothers being tame even though they weren't handled and a mate of mine remembers when him and his mates were kids receiving their ferrets on the train that were tame and worked well and that place must have been like a mustelid hancocks.
  23. Can you get done for not having your dogs jabbed? If not then tell the feckers you haven't jabbed them or done it holistically.
  24. He used to come shooting on our local estate while I was beating but i never bothered to speak to him, glad I didn't now if he's that stuck up. I only speak to toffs when they speak to me politely
