  1. GREAT THREAD ...............IT'S LOVELY TO READ A LURCHER THREAD THAT DOESN'T TURN INTO A BITCH FEST...........some lovely looking animals and dodgy looking owners too . On a serious note I think this thread highlights a need for a sub forum on the lurcher section because i'm fed up to the back teeth of reading thru threads of the coursing lads bickering. ................ just a thought thanks gents
  2. There fast but not faster than a good enough dog ........ and It stands for amateur pre-ban tosser
  3. I've heard of farm collies catching them so pace would be an issue on a short enough run but It's all about tools for the job ..................Why use a sledge to knock a nail in?

  9. That's good food for ya ................... A knowledgeable friend of mine bred them with a certain task in mind .
  10. I suppose it boils down to having the confidence in the dogs obedience . I agree it's important to show a pup as much as possible as it grows so it knows the dangers that they may come up against . I try to show my pups different types of terrain so they are unfazed and safe when they run. ................................. and now i'm not saying you run your dogs on dangerous ground but for anyone unsure weather to run a dog on dangerous ground DO NOT DO IT. It's not the worth breaking a dogs leg for the sake of a rabbit no matter how well educated a dog may be................................
  11. spot on mate I could have saved myself some typing if i'd read your post first
  12. It is when your dog hunts on in the day already . I'd agree with you normally but this lad has been having a bit of trouble with recall during the day when the dog picks up a on scent of something......................... I always start my lurchers on lamp and when i've got a good level of the basic commands. it's important that the dog knows to come straight back when the light goes off. THERE'S NOTHING WORSE THAN A DOG MISSING A RABBIT THEN DROPPING IT'S HEAD AND SCANNING THE REST OF THE FIELD WITH IT'S NOISE.................That's were recall is so important and it helps that there isn't
  13. There completely different to terriers and lurchers and take a lot of repetition . I find there drive to hunt is strong it's just a matter of harnessing that drive and switching them on to the right things with a level of control if that makes any sense. In the short time I've been into them I've seen people come and go it aint easy but a whip, a horn, plenty of patience, a love for hounds and a good mentor helps. Oh yeah you've got to be relatively fit . hope that helps
