  1. Much prefer Midnights Knives, no wonder he is wanting to go up market though with prices like that!
  2. Seemed to have a facination at that age with high speed projectiles. Once made a minature muzzle loader that would shoot a single grain of shotgun shot through a tin can, thankfully I never shot the cat!
  3. Butchered up 3 10 month old lambs at the weekend, usuall just dump the skins but decided to have a go at tanning a couple of them. Have them scraped and tacked on a pallet covered in salt. Have read various articles on the web all vary somewhat. Looking for the simplest but effective method. Anyone with experince in tannin hides tips wecome thank you.
  4. Built this years ago at maybe age 12 or 13, it has lain in the shed forgotten but just found it the other day. I repaired it making a new spring steel retainer for the bolts and a new bolt also gave it all a coat of wax and a bit of TLC. Bow is spring steel from a hand saw blade. Unbelievably fast and very powerful for its size, not something i would want a twelve year old on the loose with today! Last picture was shot point blank but gives an idea of power.
  5. +1 for a diamond stone for kitchen knives, just wet with water and wash in dish pan when finished. Off the shelf kitchen knives don't tend to be very good steel so will be limited as to the edge you get anyway and need done frequently.
  6. Made this the end of last summer. As with my other posts common the theme is recycled materials. Boards are off -cuts of roof sarking, came in a load of firewood. Rope is off the beach. Total cost is less than £2 and that was for glue & screws, not a bad outlay considering they are about £600 to buy. Built in an afternoon with the kids helping! Fixed to existing climbing frame I made years agoe from.............yes recycled telegraph poles!
  7. Good idea gaff but there won't be many new threads if you don't do a new stick thread every day good work there, going to give a stick a go myself sometime.
  8. Bit of an ongoing project this one. Rebuilding my old grey fergy using only recycled sheet meatal, matching curves from stainless steel sinks etc to match the old shapes. Ok so i could buy new panels etc but where is the fun in that? Pics so far.............
  9. Thats a beuty that one, it all flows together realy well, never tried making a stick but that one has inspired me to give it a go sometime. Might have to cut up that antler wall sculpture after all.
  10. Put a power band on that and you would have a dual purpose stick/catty
  11. Made this up from rough sawn roofing boards. Torched it with blow torch once it was all fixed together and brushed the charcoal off with a stiff natural bristle brush. Melted bees wax in a pan and brushed on while liquid. Gently torched again to get the wax to soak in then buffed up with a couple different grades of natural bristle brush. It was a bit of an experiment and am quite pleased with the finish given the original boards looked only fit for fire wood.
  12. Very interesting, keep postin your progress. Have you tried melting it in a pan of cooking oil on a hob? Just wonder if more heat would make it bind together better?
  13. Agree with Greygamefowel nice to hear others comments. 100's of views not many comments. Guilty myself, enjoy reading the posts often don't comment. After Gaf's "Where have they gone" post, trying to be a bit more pro-active myself & post. Can loose heart a bit if you post and get no replies, makes you wonder why bother.

  15. I will check tonight, think it is American at a guess Boston or Conneticut , was my grandfathers and that is where he is from.
