Another one for the(big) kids! School project for the boys, asked to make models of trebchets for history at school and bring them in, don't think they were expecting working models Cuttings of broom stick work wonders for demolishing Lego castles. Bow from hand saw blade as per my mini crossbow. http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/topic/337863-mini-x-bow/ Lead counter weight on this one. My favorite the mouse trap catapult. Can be upgraded to the rat trap version!

Bugger. I thought you were delivering it yourself and hanging it. Thanks Griff. A couple of 6" nails and a mash hammer should fix it to a post ok.

Posted this morning Royal Mail standard parcels so should be with you by the weekend walshie.

 If you get 50 for it i want a cut

Aye, turned out ok for a quick rout up in between other jobs. Likewise save the oak chippings & give them to a neighbor who smokes mackerel with them, mouth is watering at the thought, can't get a better smoked flavor!

"I find the dust of most hardwoods pretty aggressive even wearing a mask" That's why i like oak, dust doesn't bother me (i know it does some folks) and i love the smell of it when working it. Got a second coat of yacht varnish on at dinner time, fingers crossed it will be dry for the post in the morning.

Nice job, Mr Gain, bet that took more than an hour to do. Iroko looks nice and lasts well but horrible dust when you work with it!

Aye, trickier than i thought, tends to want to follow the grain. Tried it on a scrap first, seemed to work best to do it in 3 stages, light to start with, second 2 passes seemed to follow the first cut not so bad.

Sussex requested a preview so here it is at the start, nothing fancy, just free-hand but functional, will get one of the finished sign tomorrow. Just waiting for the wash coat of varnish too dry, don't know why but the first coat always takes ages on oak. Still a bit tacky this-morning but hopefully be dry enough and i can get a second coat on when home for lunch and in the post Wednesday, if not will be posted Thursday.

Yes it rubs off on them, they all make stuff too. Better than sitting in front of a screen! Never tried a sword, i would think leaf spring would be perfect though, good carbon content but tough. Would need to make some type of adaption to my forge to heat something that long but that would be part of the challenge. Not relay my intention but i have picked up a couple of commissions since posting up stuff on here. If you are serious send me a pm, would be unique and quality but wouldn't be cheap! Made to any design with a flourish of Griff thrown in. -
Finished routing up the sign today in oak, letters black, 1coat yacht varnish, will give it another coat yet and be in the post middle of the week. Will post up a pic when it is done.

Not done any lathe work for a while so dug out my motley assortment of tools today, mostly all home made, ground from files, no treatment just work fine as they are for scrapers. Just make up shapes as required. Not fancy but functional and work well. Display stand for daughters pendants first on the menu today. (after routing Walshies sign) Cut a heart shaped base from a 20m stone slate with a diamond jigsaw blade , just got a pack off ebay, very impressed, 5 for £10. Bored hole with a diamond core bit and turned a shoulder on the bottom of the upright, couple of saw c -

Well here they are polished up. She wants to clear £4.50 each so post on top of that if anyone interested. -
Pm sent Walshie.

I could rout something in timber free hand depending on how big & much you want to spend? Any design in mind? Stone or steel possible too but a bit heavy to post.

Think this thread needs reviving. Come on lads (bound to be some crafty lasses too) it has gone a bit dead on here again. Plenty of skill out there as can be seen from above posts. Show us what you are making. -
Aye they aren't daft, when i used to coarse them years ago with my Lurcher, when she would get close i have seen them weave back and forth through a wire fence, she would leap back and forth but it slowed her up and tired her out- inevitably when they did that they would get away.

Never with a catty. Had a couple with the air rifle also my lurcher took a couple years ago before it was banned. Nice meat, much darker than rabbit. Potentially have got close enough but not with a catty in my hand.

Did it a few times myself as an apprentice joiner so can sympathize. Thumb nail now has permanent ridges. Always seemed to hit it again just when it was improving. No nail guns in those days, just a fist full of nails and a claw hammer. Whats the postage on those sticks? I would think the length knackers it up?
