  1. Cheers lee, just always made stuff. Not a lot of spare ready around when i was a youngster so if i wanted it i just had to make it, kind of stuck, still making stuff!
  2. Both made from Land Rover leaf spring. The top one i made years ago. The bottom one made by my son recently based on my original design. They make perfect butcher knives for cutting up a carcase. Both were peacock blue tempered and take a razor edge. 9" blades excluding handle.
  3. Did you start with a blank or from scratch? Either way nice job, looks the bees knees.
  4. Good idea that, don't smoke but might make one for the fun of it.
  5. Yeah you can buy the panels, maby £500-£600 would have bought the lot. The way i did it the material cost was just a few quid for mig wire, flap discs and isopone etc, not that saving money was the main reason, infact the extra labour cost likley excedeed that so not worthwhile paying someone else to turn a sink into a bonnett. I enjoy making things especially out of recycled materials(as you can seee from my other threads), using pre-existing shapes etc and matching them to what is required. More satisfaction creating something fom nothing than there is from punching your credit card numb
  6. Nice work. What glue do you use for laminating?
  7. Cheers mate. Engine was re-built not long before i got it so looked like nothing at all but was a good runner. In the latest pictures you can see my "custom" cold starter, a tin of brake cleaner that injects straight into air intake, much kinder on the engine than easy start. There is an original cold start system but it needs a bit of work, might get round to sorting it out one day.
  8. This is where it's at now, ongoing so will get a final spray when it is all done......sometime in the next 25 years.
  9. welcome bud. Post up some pics of the catapults you have made.
  10. Much prefer Midnights Knives, no wonder he is wanting to go up market though with prices like that!
  11. Seemed to have a facination at that age with high speed projectiles. Once made a minature muzzle loader that would shoot a single grain of shotgun shot through a tin can, thankfully I never shot the cat!
  12. Butchered up 3 10 month old lambs at the weekend, usuall just dump the skins but decided to have a go at tanning a couple of them. Have them scraped and tacked on a pallet covered in salt. Have read various articles on the web all vary somewhat. Looking for the simplest but effective method. Anyone with experince in tannin hides tips wecome thank you.
  13. Built this years ago at maybe age 12 or 13, it has lain in the shed forgotten but just found it the other day. I repaired it making a new spring steel retainer for the bolts and a new bolt also gave it all a coat of wax and a bit of TLC. Bow is spring steel from a hand saw blade. Unbelievably fast and very powerful for its size, not something i would want a twelve year old on the loose with today! Last picture was shot point blank but gives an idea of power.
  14. +1 for a diamond stone for kitchen knives, just wet with water and wash in dish pan when finished. Off the shelf kitchen knives don't tend to be very good steel so will be limited as to the edge you get anyway and need done frequently.
  15. Made this the end of last summer. As with my other posts common the theme is recycled materials. Boards are off -cuts of roof sarking, came in a load of firewood. Rope is off the beach. Total cost is less than £2 and that was for glue & screws, not a bad outlay considering they are about £600 to buy. Built in an afternoon with the kids helping! Fixed to existing climbing frame I made years agoe from.............yes recycled telegraph poles!
  16. Good idea gaff but there won't be many new threads if you don't do a new stick thread every day good work there, going to give a stick a go myself sometime.
  17. Bit of an ongoing project this one. Rebuilding my old grey fergy using only recycled sheet meatal, matching curves from stainless steel sinks etc to match the old shapes. Ok so i could buy new panels etc but where is the fun in that? Pics so far.............
  18. Thats a beuty that one, it all flows together realy well, never tried making a stick but that one has inspired me to give it a go sometime. Might have to cut up that antler wall sculpture after all.
  19. Put a power band on that and you would have a dual purpose stick/catty
