Couldn't agree more, always tried to give them the opportunity to build stuff and help me if they wanted, took twice as long than if i had done it myself but it has payed off in the end as they have learned to use tools and starting to do projects on their own. Even my daughter is handy with a router! Latest progress, nearly complete, just needs a chain and a brake cable fitted and a paint job.

Well here is the latest machine to be resurrected. Just finished cutting the grass with it. Came off the skip last year, looked like the self drive had come loose and got tangled in the blade, ripped it and the back wheels off, then left sat outside for a while so the control cables corroded up inside the outer casings. Anyway a couple of evenings work and it is starting & running better than my £300 mower. Never ceases to amaze me what people chuck, even had a tank of fuel! That's one for each of my boys to push now! For speed i just cut the ends off the cables and fitted s -

Speaking of dumpster diving, got this chainsaw off the skip, the ignition coil had come adrift, the bolts had stripped out and weren't holding. bored right through the casing and put longer blots with a nut on the end. Cut all my firewood for the last 2 years with it, bonus-even had a full tank of fuel. -

Here's the concrete planers. The big one rips concrete down unbelievably fast, the smaller makita has variable speed and can get right into the wall. Made them after i had a new concrete floor put in my house, got a professional firm in as i wanted it done right, last time i do that. Two days grinding and a few bags of self leveling compound i had it where i wanted it, been better off doing it myself in the first place. It is dead level and flat now though and i am fussy! Bought diamond cup discs on ebay at auction, built the extraction attachments to suite whatever size the cups i wo -
Cracking job chickenman, espcially given that random stone you are working with, looks better than the original bit you joined into, the step over stone is a nice touch.

Kind offer thanks, but probably more useful as a slate ripper. Not rely intending to make a sword, think it might take a bit of explaining to my good lady, she is very patient with all my wild inventions but think medieval weaponry might be pushing my luck! -

What you got in mind? Have an ancient Victorian bench top metal lathe that will do small stuff not so sure about adding threads though, an engineer shop might be a better bet if it for something precision. -

You are quite right sussex, i tell a lie, the Bosh was a new return, think it was nearer £30 on auction, still a bargain at that. I bought it to replace my old Woolies one that finally gave up the ghost. The other 3 were bought since and all spare or repair, another Makia not in the picture which i turned into a concrete plainer, likewise under a tenner repair. A big 9" Bosch also made into a concrete plainer, will get some pics of them up. I needed something fast that worked, but it got me thinking, i stripped and repaired the old one several times over the years so why not buy broken one -

Latest ebay spare or repairs angle grinder £7 inc postage, quick fix a wire had come adrift from the field coil to brush, soldered and right as rain. Gathering quite an arsenal of grinders, laziness really but handy not to have to change discs etc between jobs. All spare/ repair and under £10 each total outlay. Thinking to adapt the latest one to have a long reach attachment to get into those awkward nooks & crannies. -
No disrespect to Gaffer but the big chief is every bit as good when it comes to collars.

If you are using Damascus and titanium it is worth taking your time and getting it right. That's a hefty looking piece of Damascus, where did you get it? -
Thanks for the comments guys, makes it worthwhile posting it up, knowing others enjoying it. If you like it- leave a comment and a like same goes for all the other craft threads on here, has gone a bit quiet recently but i suppose it is a busy time of year for outdoor activities ,gardens etc.

Here's one my 15 year old is working on - pedal power drift trike. It is the first real project he is completely on his own with, i am usually called on for doing tricky bits of shaping, welding etc or hovering nearby for technique or safety advice but he has progressed to the stage now he can use the tools safely on his own so am purposely keeping a distance to see how he gets on. Raw materials are an old BMX and box steel from a bed frame along with assorted recycled bits & pieces from my hoard. The back end has become the front end but flipped upside down so it pedals in th

Growing up there wasn't a lot of spare cash around so if i wanted it i either made it went without, the ethic kind of stuck, still tent to make rather than buy or if i do buy it tends to be broken and i fix/ adapt to suit my requirement, not a big outlay and you get what you want for a fraction of new cost. Just bought a spare or Makita random orbital sander off ebay for £1.20 needed a field coil, ordered same day for £15 posted, sander new is £130+. Recently have bought several 125mm angle grinders all ebay spare repair, Makita, Bosch, Dewalt, Hitachi, purchased/posted/repaired all less than
