Think this one was a bit of coil spring out of a hoover cord retrieve. Junior-hack-saw blade works too just heat the bit you want to bend or it snaps.

Aye that was proper childhood. Once(35years agoe) put one of those small disposable co2 cylinders through a stone wall with a "cannon" (pipe packed with paper caps & match heads). Another time a "cannon" full of weed killer blew up and desintergrated the 3 concrete blocks i had it propped up on.............happy days........be labeled as a terrorist if you did stuff like that now.

Make Your Own Tools Thread.
GruffaloGriff replied to GruffaloGriff's topic in Countryside Skills, Craft & DIY
No. The last couple is hard up against the gable end inside so i bored right through it and the gable and put M10 threaded rods right through, sunk the nuts in on the outside and will point them up. -
Make Your Own Tools Thread.
GruffaloGriff replied to GruffaloGriff's topic in Countryside Skills, Craft & DIY
Been a bit quiet on here recently, suppose with better weather everyone like me is getting on with outside work and no time for craft stuff. To keep this one burning, not rely making a tool more, making use of the tools you have for purposes other than what they were designed for. (Two 2ton trolley jacks) To cut a long story short, my mini excavator is about 4 inches too high to get in my workshop. I was going to knock the whole gable out, cast a new lintel and re-build the peak. Would have meant demolition, new blockwork, remove & re-fix door track & canopy, in all a fair bit of wo -
It's here. http://www.legislation.gov.uk/asp/2015/10/contents Great, thanks. There you go whipbed, you won't find more detail than that anywhere! Everything but how much it will cost.

Nice one whipbed best info I have read yet. Still a few unanswered questions but a lot clearer.

In the same boat myself. Accurate info on the web seems non existent. News reports say you can apply for a license from July 1st and has to be licensed by Dec 31st 2016 or else becomes illegal. As for how much, whether different license for sub 12 ftlbs and FAC air rifles, one license to cover all your air weapons or do serial numbers for each weapon need to be recorded etc etc i don't believe they know themselves yet ( i stand to be correct if anyone can point me to such info). Contact Police Scotland seems to be the only sensible advice. I have spoken direct to them before about FAC cert for

Need to get some powdered 1084, looks like it would have to come from the US unless anyone knows of UK supplier?

No just scooped the picture off the internet. Would love to have a go sometime, watched a few you-tube tutorials that's as close as i have got.

Anybody Make Yew Tree Bow?
GruffaloGriff replied to Lenmcharristar's topic in Countryside Skills, Craft & DIY
I cut a bit for a bow and have it seasoning but it is getting a bit short for a bow now as my lad keeps cutting bits off for knife handles. -
Putting ball bearings in a can with powdered 1084 and finishing up with something that looks like this really appeals to me. I am sure there is more to it than that but it is on my list of things to have a go at sometime......

New Model, My "gentleman Knife"
GruffaloGriff replied to spsurfer's topic in Countryside Skills, Craft & DIY
Nice looking knife. Do you heat treat the tungsten yourself or send it away? -
A bit of mothers leather handbag left so i made up this sheath for my lads knife. First time having a go at wet forming, quite pleased with the result. Couple of short bits of small bore copper gas pipe to make the eyes, clamped in the vice with a ball bearing in either side to splay them.

"Wavy bit in the handle" -file off the corner of he spine with a round file/ pointy file alternatively prior to fitting the scales, the void is filled with resin to stop it getting filled with crud.thats what I was thought I would have to do lol I didn't know if you'd manufactured a special punch or something to use this might sound like I'm arse licking or whatever, but since you arrived on this site, and I think I speak for more than just myself. You and your family truly are inspirational! Keep up the good work! As long as what i post inspires others to have a go that's the aim. The b

The rust was just the surface of the old spring, left it on rather than grind it smooth. Forged the curve of the spring flat and and cut the shape/ ground the bevel and left the flats as were and cleaned them up with a wire cup brush in the grinder.

Thanks Jok, yes I am proud of him, he's a good lad, comes up with his own ideas and designs and has reached a stage he can follow the through himself, i'm sure he will go a log way at whatever he decides to do in life.
-
Something he has expressed an interest in. As all knife makers know a lot of time goes into a unique blade and it is hard to justify the price you would have to charge to make it pay.

Thanks lads.
