  1. Funny thing is, in Belgium where there is no power limit, they have very few idiots using airguns to cause a damn nuisance. they don't get the kids shooting cats/swans etc - because they still have an edcation system that teaches morals and respect. Their kids are just as prone to havinng fun - but they do it more responsibly and with more creativity. Our idiots are just brain dead because of the Them & Us mentality created at school - and the same mentality for any authority. The Belgians riot sometimes too, but they do it cohesively and they need a lot of working up before they do.
  2. I didn't think he had one, just a phone number. He works out of his shed!
  3. Springs CANNOT be made from alloy, they are spring steel, because there is no elasticity in alloy, but there is in steel. Alloy is too brittle to be used in making a spring, it would work harden and break very quickly. Gas rams at 12ft-lbs are VERY reliable. My Taunus has not changed in 17 years of use and recently not so much use. The SLR98 is always bang on too. Any half decent scope will work fine and not lose zero. I use Nikon on the Taunus and a Simmonds WTCon the SLR98 - both are perfectly reliable and retain theiur zero for years at a time. Only when I change pellets do I need to cha
  4. WEATHER CONDITIONS. The pigeons will change their roosts according to the conditions. If it is very windy, fo rinstance, they will seek the sheltered side of the wood and go for lower, thicker trees such as larches - or other conifers, or thick ivy covered trees. Sunshine, often they will take a bask in the dying rays before heading off for final roost. Same in the morning after a cold night - they go to the eastern side of a wood and bask in the tops of the trees as the sun comes up. Learn your woodies' patterns - where do they favour in certain conditions. Then you can be better inf
  5. If you aren't enjoying the 100 - WHY NOT? Try to analyse what it is about it that you don't like, then do something about THAT. I have a coupleof PCPs, and whilst they are as clinical as you say, they do suit a purpose. They are MUCH quieter for one thing and when hunting for numbers you cannot beat the silent efficiency. For enjoyment and when numbers don't matter, then take the springer just to relieve the monotony. A special springer is certainly worth having BUT ONLY IF YOU ARE GOING TO KEEP IT. There is no point spending money tuning a rifle for someone else to benfit from.
  6. WHY? New discussion, new thoughts, new ideas, new arguments come up each time. Unless you are too lazy to think and write something new, and just post the same post again each time. I find I learn new things all the time, so there is always something to add to the previous discussions - rifles change, pellets change, peoples technique changes. It would be a boring pllace if there was nothing to mull over. Let's see, what topics could there possibly be that HAVE NEVER BEEN DISCUSSED BEFORE? If you come up with one, let me know, I shall be even more interested in the outcome. By the way
  7. There is little to choose between a well sorted spring gun and a gas ram. Off the shelf the difference can be perceived, but try a well tuned HW77 and there is an waiting to be opened....this is from a died-in-the-wool Theoben gasram user (Taunus in .20 and SLR98 in .22). There is something about using a gasram rifle - you will either get great satisfaction and pleasure out of using it, or you will find it a bit quirky and not to your taste. So, which are you? A maverick, or a sheep?
  8. Top notch...I have one on my Daystate Huntsman (no shroud!)
  9. You really starting to gel with it now aren't you!
  10. Yes, I tie my own. Mullet - thicks? Try as the tide floods coinciding with twilight. FLY? A red, glass beaded diawl back, tied either the traditional way, with pheasant tail, or the modern alternative way using peacock herl. Size 12.
  11. I do a bit too. I have been pike fly fishing since the 70s...and bass too. These are all you will need. They do work! I am not a specimen hunter, I am happy to catch a fish - even happier if ti is a good one! 8-weight works fine - same fly pattern, slightly different colours for bass depending on the ground.
  12. Fantastic. You never forget the first, regardless of size, that is a memory for life - and hopefully the start of a lifetime of fishing.
  13. Longer barrel does NOT equate to better accuracy, not in air rifles. It does provide better air efficiency though. To get really high power from a given air rifle the makers have to put a longer barrel on. For instance, a Rapid with a 16" barrel might be able to produce 30ft-lbs as a maximum, depending on the valve, hammer and porting, then to get more power out of the same system you would have to increase the barrel length. For sub 12ft-lbs barrel length can be as short as 8" - my Taunus has a 10" barrel and I can hit a pellet hole at 30 yards with it. So don't worry about short barrels
  14. Borrow a magpie from someone until you catch your own - then as soons as you move the trap your magpie will be a stranger on the parish - the residents wil be there in an hour to "see him off!" That is you next magpie caught. Keep the stranger as the call bird. Keep swapping them so the one in the trap is always " a stranger on the parish". Swap with the local keeper - he will always be up for a new magpie call bird.
  15. Looking through, when you zoom the scope, does the reticle AND target increase in size, or just the target? 1st Focal Plane scope the reticle increases in size along withg the target, so the relationship between the two remains constant at all magnifications. 2nd focal plane the target increases in size, but the reticle stays the same size - and your aim points alter as a result.
  16. RUBBISH...an air stripper is a device you fit to the end of your rifle that causes ladies clothes to come off.......
  17. In my pockets:- folding knife, pellet pouch, honey sandwich in clingfilm, lens cloth. If cold a hand warmer. Scarf or veil, depending on temperature. THIN gloves to cover up the white flags on the ends of your arms. Most important - a small bottle of kiddies bubbles (oh yes! - the best thing ever for finding the wind ) In the top of my boot, shooting sticks (bipod - see Airgun Shooter for "the natural bipod") Round my neck, my Zeiss 8x30B binoculars - never go without them and they have gained me so many extra shots over the years. You can see things with binos that you cannot possibly hope
  18. Do you shoot on your permission or move in? Of course my friend. None of this rolling about on thistles, nettles and stones and starving to bloody death and dying of thirst on a long day out to nightfall for me laddie! I'll be camping out under the stars on my permission come the warm summer with my mates Andy and Paul here! Paul's curried rabbit, squirrel and pigeon on rice, on the fire, shot fresh that day/evening. Good wines, great Beers, plenty of good malt scotch, tea, coffee and even a pudding for afters. And lots of soft, soft, soft for the 'loo' I built down there!
  19. Sworn to secrecy I am afraid.......alll will be revealed when they are ready.
  20. Because there is a new version due out - it was on display at The Shot Show in Las Vegas a couple of weeks ago!
  21. What a shame. They are already paired around here, I am sorry I don't believe you shot it in season because you cannot state the dates of the seasons. Over two months ago, you claim, and have only just posted it up? What do you take us for? We are not all as niaive as you think. In season, I have absolutely no problem with it, apart from the fact that it was lamped, which is hardly difficult. I have caught them with my hands under the lamp, and partridges. The odd one isn't going to hurt, but don't make a habit of it. Normally you would get a better response, but the way you hav
  22. Chelsea or Everton...wise choice methinks! You would have to ask the kennel first. I would find a use for the geese first if I were you. You CANNOT just bury them, they have ot be disposed of through the agricultural waste route if you can't use them. Just go and ask them. Dog breeders, greyhound kennel, know any lurcher/terrier men? Hunt kennels? You could have a bit of fun and ask the local RSPCA dog pound place! Canine defenc eleague or other animal re-homing place might be glad of some food - OR it might be more trouble than its worth if thye don't have the staff or facilities to deal
  23. Oh, you support the Pensioners! they did well in the cup didn't they........! Sorry, I believe in supporting local - and \I am a rugby man really and just have a passing interest in the tribal battles. What is it about football that attracts all the low lifes? Not all supporters are low lifes, but all low lifes are football supporters! You don't get arguing with the ref in rugby and people don't pretend they are hurt when they aen't - CHEATING it is called (the low lifes would say it was playing the game....because they are low lifes!)
  24. Hey, Bradford Boy....sorry to see you lose by so many yesterday, but you did well to get to the Final in the first place, so don't feel downhearted. A marvellous achievment to get there. Canadas - they are not on the General license. They are on OPEN LICENSE, which means you do not have to prove other methods of control have failed first. There is a difference - don't start putting things on General License that are on the Open License for Pete's sake. Yes, to both your questions. You can legally shoot them with your air rifle, provided you have the necessary permission. I would appro
  25. Is the thread true? Just because it was done at the factory doesn't mean it isn't a slightly off centre thread.
