Have a target of some sort to lok at - a brick wall is good, so you are looking DOWN it at an angle. The bricks become graph paper for you! Pace out the 40 yards you want and drop your hat or something next to the wall (hedge?) Then turn the objective until the hedge/wall is sharp at the range you want - or a tree / fence post at the desired range and just bring it into focus at the highest magnification. Higher the magnification, the more precise the focus. Then do the lock ring up. It will probably only need two turns or even less. Thank you, but turn it in or out? I would guess turn it

Pike Fishing For Bass Fishing,swap.
Acuspell replied to Mustard.'s topic in Fresh & Salt Water Fishing
OO thats naughty....If I can get over to Ireland this year, fancy showing me a day on the pike (safe in the nowledge it is 800 miles and a ferry away) for some guided bass fishing? -
35 - 40 yards. But get the smaller objective as that will give you greater depth of field. At 35 yards set on 6x I can see to shoot happily from about 10 FEET out to 40 yards. So if you want crisper image at range, give it a little bit more to start with, say just over 40 yards.

OK thanks - I feel a trip to the rugby league town coming on!

Much weed growth up your way? The Derbyshire river is starting to get full of Runuculus now - it has filled a couple of the big holes I like to fling a fly in fo the pike and makes fishing impossible. The pike will still be there but the weed is carpeting the surface.

Pro Staff are superb. I like the "almost" 30/30 clarity of the BDC reticule. It is uncluttered for fast target acquisition, but gives you those half way point fast find aiming points - again without blocking the view. Brilliant optics in them too - thankfully I bought my few many years ago before they were discovered and the price went up! I had to reparallax mine for air rifle ranges, but that was only a 5 minute job. Set at 35 yards now. Both are 3-9x40 but the 2-7 x looks ideal for when I get the HW77 finished. It has been sat in the cupboard, oiled and awaiting internal for, oh dear, I hat

Theoben Rapid 7 Owners, Pellet Choice?
Acuspell replied to Stuart1985's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Try all the decent pellets. Crossman are always good in Theobens and what they used to recommend. H&N FTT work well in my .20 Rapid, but JSB Exacts are even better. Absolute one holers at 40 yards. -
Was in Dover to give a kayak fishing safety and skills course. Glorious day. At the end of the day I wanted some "me" time, so went fishing for a few hours and to get some real paddling in. I was shown a rocky boulder patch under some cliffs that couldn't be accessed from the shore at any stage of the tide andt was too much of a rock garden for even small boats to venture in. 20 feet deep water would suddenly be 2 feet deep as pinnacles and boulders the size of a house reared up from the bottom - it would be a speafishing haven! I was drifting in the tide, positioning the kayak so I could cas

There is no such thing as Sea Bass - there never has been and anyone using that term ANYWHERE is merely showing their ignorance. Dicentrarchus labrax is The Bass. You then have Striped bass, stone bass, black bass, large mouth bass, small mouth bass........but the fish that you are on about and that has in the last 20 years become the most persecuted fish in the sea is simply a BASS. Kincardne? In that muddy hole? I wouldn't fish for them there, I would go where the water is a bit clearer! There are bass on the north coast of Scotland - the whole way along, so you will find them in sui

Not the Exe - Trent, and miles from the sea - about 50 miles!

I think it is the Trent. Shame about the mullet....they are worth far more swimming.

With the pressure of work I hadn't had a chance to get to the river yet. So the afternoon when I had caught up I slid off with the dogs to give them a breeze and get my casting arm going again. Got to the river for abut 14.00 and had to be home for 18.00 and it is an hour drive, so I had just three hours fishing. managed three fish, best about 12lbs. This weekend I am up to Northumberland, hopefully for some plaice and cod...whatever comes along!

Thats some going Bornhunter - where would you go to get them - in the Straits? I would think you get too much weed there. -
Fly Fishing Leaders , Tapered Or Same Thickness Mono?
Acuspell replied to mick1726's topic in Fresh & Salt Water Fishing
Your tapered leaders should last you years. Buy a 9 foot tapered leader, ending in the tippet strength of your choice (5lb? 6lb?) THEN, before you ever use it, tie on a 3ft length of tippet material the same weight, or a little lower. That way you only ever nibble at the sacrificial end of the tapered leader - the extra tippet you put on. Tied, as said above, with a 4-turn water knot, when that working length gets down to about 16" - 18", snip it off at the knot and tie on another 3 feet or so of your tippet length. I have made tapered leaders last three or four years like this - i do the sam -
Why would you get capsized?

Heading to Penarth on Monday......out on the boat on Tuesday, but will have a wander along the shore there for a few hours Monday evening if that is any good to you. Flinging a few lures about, just for the hell of it.
-
That is a good price for the outfit - why don't you split it up and you would get more for it. Put it on the Fly Fishing Forums....... How much for the line? (#4 floater? WF or DT?) What flies you got? Might be interested in those too - my eyes and fingers are nnot up to trout flies. I can manage my saltwater flies and pike flies, but fiddly little blighters I can't do at all - I am struggling to see to put them on the end of the line too - even #14s !

14" will be about 12 ounces! Bass are not mature until they are 7 years old and over 42cm for males and 45cm for females. At these sizes we are sure they have spawned at least once - but not at smaller sizes. Take care of your bass- they don't migrate as much as they did 10 years ago even.

Your best bet is to buy a used set up - you will not lose anything on it if you decide it isn't for you after a few trips then. I designed and build composite fishing kayaks, but they will be out of your budget I expect. Many people get the idea it is just a case of getting a kayak, chucking it in the water jumping on and off you go....these are the ones who end up losing gear (rods and reels mostly) and getting rescued by the RNLI. GET YOURSELF ON A COURSE. There should be a Kayak fishing safety course at Bexhill in the summer during the festival. The cost of the course will save you 10

You lucky to have rabbits to shoot at - ours all died out about 15 years ago and have never come back. squirrels are my fur now - and the odd hare, and I mean the ODD hare. I wish we could get some rabbits established.

The Hunting Life Charity Fishing Comp
Acuspell replied to NEWKID's topic in Fresh & Salt Water Fishing
Never even seen one of them, other than in pictures ! I don't have bait rods...I have a little 8' spinning rod and 2000 size reel I occassionally use but have absolutely no idea what you do with bait! Those bloody pike...I FLY FISH FOR THEM (from the kayak as well!) see here: or this one: smaller one - but just as welcome! Amazing what you see on the kayak and the friends you meet - pulls the birds as well.....
